After raising some of the issues we had during our first visit, Michael the owner reached out and invited us back. Our second visit was much more aligned to the experiences shared in many of the other 5-star reviews I see posted for the restaurant and warranted revising. Service was prompt, friendly, knowledgeable and the food came out very quickly. I encourage others to try the Beef Bourguignon and Happy Hour specials. We’ll be back for sure.

MWe are from Europe, where culinary standards—especially for French cuisine—are simply higher than what is commonly found in the U.S. So when we came across this so-called French bistro, we were genuinely excited. Finally, we thought, some proper food. That hope was short-lived.

I ordered the bouillabaisse (seafood dish). Others in our group had steak frites, and one ordered a pasta dish.

After an unusually long wait, the food finally arrived. To be fair, the steak frites were quite good. Unfortunately, everything else went downhill from there.

The bouillabaisse was a complete disappointment. The portion was laughably small—hardly enough to satisfy even a modest appetite. See the attached photo. A few shells with minuscule shellfish, some of which looked nearly empty, and two shrimp. That’s it. The bland, tasteless bread served alongside it felt like a cheap attempt to compensate for an otherwise empty plate.

The pasta wasn’t much better. In fact, it was one of the most tasteless pasta dishes I’ve ever had. My ten-year-old daughter ordered it, took a few bites, and said, “Even I can cook pasta a whole lot better than this.” That pretty much sums it up.

One of my sons commented, “They’re abusing the name of French restaurants.” He was absolutely right.

Adding to the experience, while we were still waiting for our food, a waiter stood right next to our table loudly cleaning silverware, creating an unnecessary and irritating racket. Completely tasteless behavior in what is supposed to be a refined dining environment.

This restaurant may appeal to Americans who have little reference for what good food actually is. But for Europeans who value quality, balance, and flavor, it was a major disappointment. The prices create expectations that the kitchen simply does not meet.

Honestly—how hard is it to give pasta some flavor? Anyone who cooks at home knows how to do that. How a chef in an expensive restaurant manages to serve completely tasteless pasta is beyond us.

And charging $35 for a “seafood” dish consisting of a few mediocre shellfish and two shrimp? That feels disrespectful to the customer.

If you call yourself French, there is a standard to uphold. This restaurant fails to meet it—and should be ashamed of presenting itself as something it clearly is not.

Jake and Mike run a fantastic establishment with great food, drinks, and service.

We have now been coming here frequently for several months. Prior to coming, I had only truly been to Le Central for “French” food. I always thought French food was, “meh” based on those experiences.
Bistro 36 has completely changed my opinion and outlook (the pate is amazing)!!
The menu changes often and brings a unique flavor to accommodate the changing seasons.
My favorite items on the *current* menu are the cheeseburger and the French Dip Sandwich.
The drinks are also well paired with the seasons and complement the entrees well.
Garrett, Ryan, and Noah behind the bar will take excellent care of you.
Highly recommend coming by.
*DISCLAIMER: the cost noted above is inclusive of several cocktails with top shelf alcohol, expect ~$50+/person with entree and cocktails/wines*

Marylu was top-notch as our server for dinner tonight. Friendly, attentive, and anticipated our needs. Jake, one of the owners, stopped by to check in. Great experience.

We had an excellent experience here last week and can’t say enough good things about it. The property was very clean and welcoming, and the food was outstanding.

Mary was our waitress and she was an absolute delight. She was attentive, helpful, and made the whole experience even better. After dinner, we sat at the bar and had the chance to visit with the owner, Jay, for quite a while. It’s clear he takes pride in what he’s built. He runs a great restaurant with a genuine local feel.

Our favorite dishes were the deviled eggs and the beef bolognese. Both were fantastic and we would order them again in a heartbeat.

This is a great place to bring the family. We hope more locals come out and support this spot. We certainly look forward to going back.

I have never been here and ordered something for pick up. I asked if the item was served with chips, but it wasn’t , which was okay with me!! However the chef, Jake went out of his way to personally make some homemade chips for me! That was so kind and they went above beyond! When we picked up our order, the service was incredible! Jake introduced himself and was personable and friendly! You don’t see the kind of warm, caring, and pleasant attitudes each worker had anymore at places. So refreshing and pleasant!! I had to tip over 50% because the service was amazing!!

Went to Bistro 36 on a Friday for happy hour with girlfriend and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The happy hour was amazing, and the food was excellent across the board.

Our waiter, Noah, was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. Even though we didn’t have a reservation, the hostess was incredibly accommodating and seated us by the fireplace, which was such a nice touch.

What really stood out was the level of hospitality. The hostess checked in on us, and the owners themselves came over individually during our visit to make sure everything was perfect. That kind of personal attention is rare and truly appreciated.

Highly recommend Bistro 36—I will definitely be back!

I came in last week and had such a lovely experience. I was hoping something good would come in here, and bistro 36 did not disappoint. Service is great, and we even got to meet the owner. Food was awesome.

I would highly recommend the Salmon Nicoise. It was a very clever take on the salad and was very filling. Potato green bean thing that they do is delicious and the salmon was cooked perfectly.

We also tried their desserts. I’m not a cheesecake fan normally but I’ll literally be back just for that. Crème brûlée was amazing too. I’ll be back very soon.

Edit: i’ve been back a few times now and have been pleasantly surprised with everything I’ve tried m. Solid spot in the neighborhood still. Tried these muscles last night and they’re some of the best that I’ve had.

Great little place. Enjoyed my salmon nicouse and lemon martini. Salmon cooked just right.
Food was good. My order didn’t have the green beans and waiter brought out small bowl, but they were tasteless, which ruined the end of the meal experience.
Also would have liked something French related on the screens to complete the ambience (not everyone likes sports and it seemed odd for a French bristo
