Had to take a break from restuarants after returning back to greater Madison area after a long stay in Canada tasting exotic foods from across the world’s. After a long gap made this visit after a lot of recommendations. The ambience was good and welcoming. We tried few appetizers and main dishes. The taste was good and definitely worth of visiting again and again.

Was excited to try this place and I was very happy. Everyone at the restaurant was super friendly and very helpful. The interior has some super cute umbrellas hanging from the ceiling as well as a very nice atmosphere. They are still in process of building things out but it did not detract from our experience. The samosas were amazing. We ordered chicken korma and Chana masala. We got the medium spice level and at first thought it was mild, but at the end it grew in spice level. We also got some garlic naan which was quite tasty as well. My only recommendation is that the menus while neat looking could do a bit more with descriptions of the entrees.
Please give this place a shot as they were super nice and it was very tasty.

We went here a few weeks of months after they have opened for reference.
Their food was spectacular! If you have a Midwest pallet for spice I recommend the low spice option and get the mango drink if you are very worried about spice since the drink takes away all the spicy hit. It was so delicious! The food was full flavored and cooked to perfection. In my photo it is a double order of garlic naan, and it was crispy and a great pairing for any curry.
I also ordered the butter chicken curry, which is the red dish in my photos.
The music in the restaurant was played through the TV and regularly had ads.
It was ~$55 for two currys, a mango drink, and 2 orders of naan with tip. We left with leftovers so you will leave full!

The photo is absolutely not doing justice to the taste and the little happy dance you do after having it! We ordered a Gobi 65, Hyderabadi Veg Biryani and Parotta Korma. Hands down the best Korma we’ve had in the U.S. and the best biryani in Wisconsin!!
We will certainly keep going here to satisfy our Indian food cravings and you should too!!

Welcome to the neighborhood! We loved this place as a family. Our curries were so tender and delicious. Fresh and perfectly done naans. People are very kind and welcoming. We are so glad to have quality Indian food so close to home.

The food is excellent. The flavor is amazing and must be authentic. Lower your expectations on service as there is a communication gap, however, it’s totally worth going there to dine out and Waunakee. Definitely support this restaurant as it’s a great option.

This place is AMAZING! Just visiting India in January, I missed the food. I tried some restaurants here and there around the area, but this one is it! It reminded me exactly of the food I had in Hyderabad.
Our waiter was so attentive and helpful for any questions we had about the dishes they serve. My husband had never had authentic Indian food so I had some recommendations, but our waiter really helped him out.
I wish I had taken a picture but I will have to next time we visit. It’s a 45 minute drive but I guarantee we will be returning.
There was so much food, I ended up having two more meals from it. Worth what you are paying for.

We’ve done takeout twice now from Thalaivas. Very good! It looks like between the first time we ordered (opening weekend) and a few weeks later (last night), they removed a few items from their menu to help streamline the kitchen possibly. My husband was sad he couldn’t order the Parotta with Chicken Curry again. But he loved his Chettinad chicken curry!
The chicken tikka masala was very good, and the samosas are big and my friend loved them! The chicken tandoori was okay, the serving size was a little on the small side and I wish I had known it didn’t come with rice as I would have ordered some. The naan is all good – order the bullet naan if you like a spicy kick!
The medium spice level is hit or miss, sometimes it is no heat level. Luckily, even if less spicy than I was expecting, the flavors are great!
Please add an option to order extra sides of plain rice on your online menu!!

We ordered carryout from Thalaivas Indian N Chinese in Waunakee and were seriously impressed. The Chicken Ghee Roast was bold and aromatic, with deep South Indian spice and richness from ghee. The Butter Chicken was perfectly creamy and balanced — familiar, but elevated. And the Carrot Halwa? A warm, lightly sweet finish with just the right touch of cardamom. My food was hot, ready, and I was greeted warmly when I arrived. Only two tables were occupied at lunch — this place deserves more love. Give Thalaivas a try. You won’t be disappointed!
