After we navigated icy street corner to get from car to sidewalk, we found the entrance a bit challenging for me walking with a cane. The greeting from the staff was very welcoming and warm. We loved the Butter Chicken Curry (with tofu) and the Garlic Naan made in the clay Tandor oven was the best we’ve ever had!

First of all, sorry the photos aren’t perfect the food was so delicious we couldn’t control ourselves and started eating right away!

A few years ago, we traveled to India for a friend’s wedding, and ever since then we’ve been craving truly authentic Indian flavors. We were so happy to find this restaurant, because it brought those memories right back. The taste, the spices, and the depth of flavor feel genuinely authentic not toned down.

This place has officially become our favorite Indian restaurant in Madison. Every dish we’ve tried has been incredible, and you can really tell the food is made with care and tradition.

If you’re looking for amazing, authentic, and deeply satisfying Indian food, you absolutely need to check this place out. Highly recommended!

The food and the restaurant ambience was good.We ordered Idiyappam & Coconut milk which was really delicious. Coffee was good.
Goat Fry biriyani was slightly spicer. Plain dosa was good but slightly oily.
The washrooms are not clean, have to pay attention to that!

Dined with my daughter and we enjoyed the vegetable samosa, combination noodles and madhurai milage kulambu chicken. Everything was great (so much food)! The spice level was perfect. Highly recommend.

One of the best I found, if not the best.
For business, I travel throughout North America, and frequently seek Indian restaurants. There are many good ones out there, but I had yet to find one that would equal or best the Red Fort Restaurant in St. George, Utah (please do not tell anyone. The place is impossible to get into.)
Thalauvas is impression. Their selection and choices are broad. The flavors and spices are deep and well balanced. Preparation is perfect. Tender meats and crisp vegetables.

Thalaivas has easily become my favorite Indian restaurant in Madison after trying a bunch of others around town. We had the chicken ghee roast and pomfret fry, and both were incredible—full of rich, authentic flavors that really took me back. The spices were just right, and everything was cooked perfectly. I’ll definitely be going back, and I totally recommend it if you’re craving some really good Indian food!!!

Very grateful for attentive wait staff who answered questions and gave recommendations. Food was ordered and served in good time! Samosas weren’t super warm (temp) but the veg curry and meat thali were prepared perfectly!

Saturday Manager shout out– you did a great job circulating and coaching other staff.

Will be back.

I had a lovely solo dinner at Thalaivas in Middleton. I don’t get to the west side often and heard good things about their eggplant curry in a reddit thread. It’s a new place and not too busy, even on a Friday night.
The food was absolutely divine. I adore eggplant and it was served in such an interesting format – quartered with stems attached and then stewed in a rich curry. The garlic naan had a comical amount of diced garlic on it, maybe a whole head. It was perfect.
Run, don’t walk over here!

Giving 2 star for taste of food which was the saving grace.

To the management – When you say it is a BOGO mention that you are splitting 3/4th of a regular biryani and split it into two boxes.

Please do not misguide the customer.

Everyone there is so friendly so nice and really takes care of you like family. Jay brought me over a free mango smoothie because the heat was starting to really kick in and get to me. The food is absolutely authentic and delicious. The chicken555 is a 100/10 rating. Biriyani chicken 100/10 rating. The Naan bread was so fresh and so crispy warm with a scent of garlic. Well worth the price and atmosphere. If I lived in Wisconsin I’d eat here every weekend. First time eating Indian food and this place knocks your socks off with authentic spices and really make you feel at home. 500 out of 10 rating overall.
