Birrieria Chalio is a family own restaurant that started as a back yard cook out. Chalio was a middle age man who was struggling to provide to his family, knowing his family’s Birria recipe, he decided to start selling it. This back yard cook out turned into a business. For more than 30 years, Birrieria Chalio still uses the same recipe, the same fresh ingredients and stays authentic to their roots providing one of the most tasteful handmade tortillas in East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights. Chalio passed on the Birria recipe to his kids and now, Jose, the current owner hopes to pass on this recipe to his kids. More than just food, every plate of Birria contains a piece of history from the family and their natal town in Zacatecas, Mexico.

Food is delicious depending what you get.
Some food is Over priced.
Came here as a kid, now in my 30s I was able to share the delicious dish with my kids the Birria with homemade delicious tortillas.

I’m big on reviews so I had to post about this place! We ate the Barbacoa and Menudo and both were very tasty The tortillas are handmade and hot and really big. Great tasting also. Lemonade had a hint of cucumber and the cafe de olla was Ok.

We wanted birria tacos and by a selection from yelp we got it. Brought some friends and took our first dive into their cuisine.
They have excellent food one of the best birria tacos around. If you haven’t checked this place out, we strongly recommend this restaurant!
