Hands down the best South Asian food in Sault Ste. Marie!
I’m a regular customer at Biryani House 786, and I can confidently say this place never disappoints. Their chicken biryani is my all-time favorite — perfectly cooked rice, rich aroma, deep flavors, and consistently fresh every single time. The lamb mandi is another standout: tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. You can tell real care goes into the cooking.
The portions are generous, the food is always flavorful, and the quality has been consistently excellent over time — which is rare and worth mentioning. Service is friendly and welcoming, and they genuinely appreciate their customers.
If you’re in Sault Ste. Marie and craving authentic, satisfying biryani or mandi, this is the place to go. I’ve tried many spots, and Biryani House 786 is easily at the top. Highly recommended — especially if you love bold, authentic flavors.

Mohamed, great guy. Very pleasant to talk to. Got homely feeling placing my order. It’s not a five star restaurant atmosphere but very homely feeling. Loved his Bangladeshi helper.

We passed through Sault St Marie and found this place with really good reviews and decided to try it. It is a take-out only place and have no chair or tables. The food definitely live up to its reviews. The food was very flavorful and the portions were huge. Honestly we could of gotten full for 2 people with just one portion. Highly recommend if you want biriyani.

I want to start on a positive note: the staff and the owner at Biriyani House 786 Ltd are extremely accommodating. We had a last-minute order for three trays of chicken biriyani, and they went out of their way to make it happen, which we truly appreciate.
However, my overall experience was disappointing. First, the location is inconveniently situated inside another building. While I understand this is not the restaurant’s fault, better signage would be helpful, especially at night, to make it easier to find.
The main issue was with the food itself. We specifically ordered three trays of chicken biriyani for kids and requested that it be mild. What we received, however, was extremely spicy — so much so that even adults could barely tolerate it. This was incredibly frustrating, especially considering we spent over $150 plus tax on the order. We ended up having to leave most of the rice untouched and could only finish some of the chicken.
I want to emphasize that this is not our first time trying biriyani; we know the difference between mild, regular, and spicy. I would strongly suggest that the kitchen honor specific spice requests, or if unable to do so, inform customers at the start rather than preparing something completely unsuitable.
In summary, while the service is excellent and the staff are helpful, the execution of food orders needs serious attention, especially when it comes to catering to specific dietary or taste requirements. I hope the owner considers this feedback to improve the dining experience for future customers.

Being a vegetarian, I wanted to order Veg. Biryani on Uber Eats but the only veg. option I saw was Biryani rice. Thinking that was it, I placed the order. Then, I thought of calling the restaurant just to check and spoke with Mohamed Nizam. He told me that it was not Veg. Biryani but just rice with Biryani flavour. However, he arranged to send me Veg. Biryani at no extra cost. Very considerate of him.

A hidden gem in Sault Ste. Marie! We were passing through on our way to Quebec and craving some Deshi biriyani—so glad we found Biriyani House 786! The owner, Mohammad, welcomed us with such warmth and genuine hospitality. He went out of his way to help us with parking, and prepared the food with so much care. The biriyani was absolutely delicious, and the thoughtful extra salad and spoons meant a lot to us while traveling. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Sault Ste. Marie—don’t miss this place!
