Truly enjoyed finding this spot, the conversation with the owner and the quality of food! Nestled within a part of town not known for many good things this is a hidden gem and community haven. The work that they are doing to support the community is wholesome and awesome in itself.
Now to the food: ordered three orders of wings, two orders of fries, the double burger with cheese, salmon bites, strawberry cheesecake and strawberry lemonade. Everything was very fresh and delicious. One order of wings I saved until later and they heated up very well.
Not only will I be returning and would recommend a 10 out of 10! Try as much as you can from this black owned, women powered and community driven restaurant!

“Best fries in the city” is what one reviewer said of Bird’s Kitchen. Served hot and with crunch, Miss Birdie’s fries are darn good. So is her crab cake.
Located in Ward 7’s Civic Betterment neighborhood, Bird’s Kitchen is worth the drive. Park along the street and walk into the no-frills, takeout-only restaurant. Likely, you’ll meet Miss Birdie (the co-owner and chef). Her story is inspiring. (She wants to encourage more foot traffic in the neighborhood.) And her food homemade.
She sells turkey burgers, hamburgers, crab cake with no filling, banana pudding, lemonade. It’s all fresh and made to order.

Why do you guys have online that your open on sundays until 5:00pm if your not? A customer recommended this business to me, I drove 27 minutes out of my way, pregnant & hungry just for you all to be closed. Horrible/ridiculous, it’s so hard too support Black Owned Businesses because of inconveniences like this smh.

when I first got to the restaurant, I got to meet the owner. She recommended several of her best sellers on the menu and told me some of the history of the restaurant.

My parents and I wanted a good burger. Since I’m still new to the Anacostia area I conducted a very scientific search by typing in “burger 20019” into Google. Pics looked great so we went. The staff was super nice, explained the menu, and made recommendations. We ordered Benning burgers, crab cake, and I bravely tried the Thanksgiving. Everything was delicious! The fries were hot and crunchy. Burgers cooked perfectly. Crab cake thick and tasty. And I must admit, I was skeptical about the Thanksgiving burger (turkey burger with pepper jack cheese and cranberry sauce) but it was SO good. I recommend this restaurant.

The food was great ! I purchased the saucey wings and the turkey burger AKA “Thanks Giving Burger” cranberry sauce on that homemwade burger was genius. The sauce on those wings was the perfect combination of spice and sweetness. Great to have a new black business in town.
