We stopped in for brunch on a Monday afternoon. All of the menus(seasonal, drink, food, etc) had so many different options that it was hard to decide. I went with the Birdie Special so I could try a bit of this and that. The bacon was crispy, potatoes were cooked well and not greasy at all, but the eggs…my eggs were not good. They were clearly soaked in whatever they spray on their cooking surface to prevent sticking. And that’s all I could taste as well. I ended up eating some of my husband’s scrambled eggs instead because they were light, fluffy, and not greasy at all. He got those on his Chicken Fried Steak plate. And that was delightful! They should package the gravy and sell that too! The real treat for me was the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam. Oh my. I ate every last bit of it. Yum! I would go back just to eat those pancakes. This is a cute little gem with fast and friendly service. The prices are reasonable for the quality and amount of food that you get. I would definitely recommend them and go back to try more!

It’s a bit more than a diner, but it’s still warm and welcoming. Service is about as good as you’re gonna get anyway. The coffee comes with a carafe, and if you’re lucky a to-go cup. Get there early if you want a daily special. The tomato soup was wonderfully thick. Great place solo or to meet friends for a chat.

Food was very good. Thought the Monte Cristo tasted fantastic but was lacking on the ham some. I thought it could have used way more ham. Which by the way was fabulous. Will be back to visit for sure. Service only 4 stars because our waitress got stuck taking orders for a large group in the back. She needed help.

Friendly, engaged staff in a clean atmosphere with disappointing food. My eggs benedict had a hard boiled egg (poached too long?!) on a hamburger bun. Potatoes were crispy but had absolutely no seasoning. Would not recommend.

Food was excellent, got the country fried steak. The gravy was flavorful and the place has the best house potatoes I had in a restaurant, cooked perfectly. Kids got chocolate chip pancakes which were fluffy. The vegetarian skittle was flavorful. The only complaint when we got there at 730 the inside temperature was 66° which is far to chilly to enjoy. We had to speed eat cause we were too cold. We didn’t bring jackets. All I’m all 4/5 experience

A wonderful atmosphere; both calming and welcoming. Servers are attentive, seating is generous, and the food is just an extra cherry on top.
An amazing place. Would recommend any day.

Wow! Food was absolutely delicious! I got the chicken and waffles. Waffles had jalapeño slices mixed in and served with hot honey. I enjoy a good spice kick, but this may be too much for those that don’t. Husband got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. We both had trouble finishing as the portions are huge. Not that we didn’t try our hardest. 🙂

Birdie’s Diner has quickly become my absolute favorite breakfast spot. The food is consistently amazing, portions are perfect, and everything tastes fresh and comforting in the best way. On top of that, the inside is SO aesthetically pleasing — bright, cozy, and the kind of place you want to sit and enjoy your morning instead of rushing out.
It’s the perfect mix of great food and great atmosphere, which is honestly hard to find. Whether you’re grabbing a casual breakfast or meeting up with friends, Birdie’s just hits every time. Highly recommend!

This was my first time here. The restaurant is clean and modern. I ordered the Nutella Mousse Waffle which was very good, except the Nutella was not a mousse. It was a hard blob in the center of the waffle. I broke it up and mixed it with the whipped cream. The taste wasn’t affected, but I was expecting it to be soft. The latte was very good. I will return, hoping the Nutella is a mousse the next time.

We came to Birdie’s in Valparaiso and I’ll start by saying the food was delicious — my French toast was amazing. But the service was extremely disappointing. Our server, Jennie H, dropped off a carafe of coffee and never came back to check on us. We wanted to ask for syrup for my French toast and to order another orange juice, but she walked right past our table several times without ever stopping or acknowledging us.
At one point, I even tried asking the girl behind the bar for syrup, and she just said, “Sorry, I don’t have any,” then turned her back away. That kind of response was shocking — I mean, at the end of the day, this is the customer service business. If you don’t have what a guest needs, at least offer to find someone who can help. Is there any training for this kind of situation?
When it came time to ask for the check, we couldn’t even get our server’s attention. I had to stand up three different times to try to flag someone down, and finally, on the third try, a kind lady by the door noticed and brought us what we needed.
I rarely ever leave bad reviews — if service is just “okay,” I usually let it go. I’ve worked in this industry for many years, so I completely understand how busy it can get. But this experience was just unacceptable. It’s a shame, because the food was wonderful, but the service left such a bad impression that it overshadowed everything else.
