The atmosphere leans toward a modern beer garden environment. Seating is spacious and informal, with a layout that encourages groups to share tables and spend time enjoying drinks. The space has an open and social feel, which fits well with the beer-focused concept. It is the kind of place where people arrive planning to stay for a while rather than simply stopping in for a quick meal.
The food focuses heavily on fried chicken and familiar comfort dishes. The chicken is clearly the highlight of the menu, often served crispy with a well-seasoned coating that balances texture and flavor. The menu also includes sides and shareable plates that complement the beer selection and work well for group dining.
The beverage program centers around craft beer, which aligns with the beer garden concept. Rotating taps give visitors the opportunity to try a variety of styles, and the casual setting makes it easy to sample different options over the course of a visit.
Service felt friendly and relaxed, matching the laid-back environment. Staff were approachable and efficient, helping keep the experience smooth even when the space becomes busy.
From a global travel perspective, Birdhaus Beer Garden reminded me of contemporary beer gardens found in cities such as Berlin, Portland, and Melbourne where the focus is on community, casual food, and craft beer culture.
the staff there are also so approachable and friendly – because as for drinks i got a sour of some sort (to be honest – i wasn’t too sure what to order so i asked the bartender for his recommendations in which he was so helpful and allowed me to taste test prior to buying the drink!) the only downside is that parking may be hard to find on the streets but there are tons of side streets nearby
perfect for groups, friends and family, and dates!! 10/10 would recommend trying their garlic shrimp plate ($19) – which was so flavorful and everything within my plate was paired so well together
Met the owner and he was so kind and humble. He’s a Union City native and so is the chef. You need to check out their kitchen. The chef previously worked at a Michelin star restaurant and you can really tell! We got:
Spam masubi – super flavorful with nice sauce and green onions on top
Fried chicken and rice- came with Mac salad which I enjoyed. Portions were huge. Wish there was more sauce but overall delicious.
Spicy Mayo tuna poke – this portion took us 3 days to get through. Very fresh fish.
The chef here is super personable, local and clearly knows and cares about what he’s dishing up. Ingredients are sourced from Santa Cruz to Monterey and tastes so fresh. The menu changes with the season and the plant based options are so flavorful and not an afterthought to the menu. Also the portions are incredibly generous so if you’re like me you’ll have leftovers.
My only wish is they were open more days of the week. Will be coming back over and over – this place is a gem!!!
Just tried their new kitchen, Da Good Vibes, for the first time recently. Great bistek beef ribs special with a standout mac salad. The husband enjoyed the lumpia sliders as well, though thought the citrus & charcoal sauce was a bit off-putting due to the color. Enjoyed the Uncovered Roots ube coconut stout a lot! I’m thrilled to see crab fries back on the menu here as well.
We love coming out to Birdhaus! Their ube beer is delicious without being annoyingly sweet, like many ube treats can be. And the crab fries are RIDICULOUSLY overflowing with imitation crab, roe, green onions, and spicy mayo. EAT THEM UP.

Enjoyed checking out Union City’s Birdhaus Beer Garden and The Lone Crow today in Union City! These companion businesses bring Filipino and Hawaiian flavors to a chill, sunny outdoor gathering spot.
Did I mention the halo halo ube tres leches cake? It’s a collaboration with Macs By Icky and was a super sweet and delicious dinner to the afternoon. Earlier came a guava mint mojito, pilsners, hazy ipas, spicy poke, and a mochiko chicken bowl.
Will be back on another sunny day. Wish they carried more of their own brews, though! And fewer IPAs…but I always wish that.
