Eric “Hello, Good Morning” H
Ouch! I tried this place and it was unfortunately not good. This place has good and bad aspects. The staff, I think her name was Sam. She was amazing. We talked about the food, the ingredients, how they make their kitchen, and the seasoning in their food. I tried the Kimchi Fried rice with spam. The dish was very pungent. That let me know ot was real authentic kimchu. It was not very flavorful. The rice was hard and the dish overall just lacked flavor. After some back and forth I decided to let them know I didn’t like it. She offered me another meal and I decided the noodles with veggies and shrimp. Unfortunately, that wasn’t very good either. I was completely taken aback that this food was not good. I love asian food and this was just not it. They have a ginger garlic sauce, I think its the Bao Sauce, that was delicious and helped with the bland flavor of the dishes. Overall this was just a dissapointment. After two tries, I won’t try again. Im dissapointed in the food served here at the SLO Marketplace. Oh well.

We were excited about trying the baos there because we always miss out on the days this counter is open for its bao business. Good service, employee was nice, no wait in the middle of the afternoon. We took our food to go, 3 buns: 1 curry, 2 char sui pork.

Alas, we realized at home that the baos were not fully cooked, the bottom dough was completely raw, you can see it on the video. The meat inside was quite tough to chew. The last straw was that I found some kind of hair, one inch long, could be of a brush, or if you want to see if positively, ginger fiber, not great in the mouth.
We ended up tossing it all.

So disappointing, we wanted to love that place.

I LOVE Bing’s Bao Buns. Growing up in a Chinese family, I was raised on bao. And Bing’s bao is honestly my favorite I’ve ever had, anywhere.

First, I love the bun thickness to fillings ratio–it’s exactly how I personally like them, with the bun not so thick that it overwhelms the flavor of the filling.

Second, I love that Bing’s always offers a variety of plant-based options for both their bao and additional menu items, including Kimchi Fried Rice. Whether you are vegan, or vegetarian, or not, their plant-based options are just as flavorful and satisfying as anything on their menu.

Third, Bing’s offers so many amazing items, beyond bao, including Lo Mein Noodles and Tater Tots. I highly recommend the Bing’s Seasoning edition of the Tater Tots. It has a very tasty and memorable kick, without being too spicy for those who can’t tolerate too much.

And on top of all of that, Bing’s always has the best customer service. They make you feel truly appreciated for your patronage, and that is important. They are family-owned, and personally, I love getting to support high-quality businesses that are.

Plus, they have a wide selection of cool imported snacks, and a wide selection of tasty mochi too, including vegan mochi. I feel they go above and beyond at what they do, and are such a true gem in our Central California Coast. In all of my bao from D.C. to SoCal, I still love the ones here at Bing’s in San Luis Obispo the best.

Vegan options we tried: mushroom curry bao, tater tots with furikake and sesame noodles

This place is inside Public Market. So many great stalls. Service was super friendly and fast. I got 3 bao buns (pork, chicken and beef) they were really good size and filled me up as a meal. The dipping sauce was great, buns were well filled and had so much flavor. Would love to try the other stuff on the menu! (Bubble tea in photo from Sequel Tea, another stall)

Not only was the food incredible but the staff was so kind! They offered suggestions when I wasn’t sure what I wanted. I got the edamame snack and char pork-siu bao. My husband got the “big Glizzy” with dijon mustard on the side. Theres lot of other options as well! Super recommend!

Update: Came by on a Saturday and got to try out their Bao Buns. Great buns, flavorful, pillowy soft and hot. We got the tri-tip brisket buns. We also tried the squid and the shishito peppers. Everything was great!

Original review:
Needed a snack and decided to come back to this location as the craving hit.
Had the fried chicken in Sweet Ginger Soy, Sichuan Fire and Sweet Orange. Current favorites are the ginger and sichuan but it was at the end of the day. Will be giving the sweet orange another try when it is in the beginning of the day. They came with a bed of rice noodles. Crispy and yet addicting. The first time we were there, we got to try the homemade pickles, they were delicious! This time around we tried their fries with a secret sauce to dip them in. Sauce went really well with the Sweet Orange Chicken as well. The owners are always great and so friendly!! Will definitely keep coming back. And one of these times will get there during the lunch time to get a bao bun before they sell out. 🙂

(Just FYI, the fried chicken goes with the beer at bottlecraft just down the way.)

O….M….G….I have found the perfect Bao Bun restaurant. I am absolutely in heaven. Unfortunately, it is about 850 miles away from home. If you ever cruise through San Louis Obispo, also known as SLO, this stop is a must. Surrounded by a bunch of food and small businesses in a great marketplace, this is perfection. Make sure you look up their hours as they can be a bit erratic, but wow….just wow.

Used to be a great spot, but now they cut the type of buns offered in half, not to mention it’s weird stuff like “Thanksgiving Dinner” and are serving nasty hot dogs out of the same kitchen
