We ate out twice there – once outside and once in the lounge. The food is quite decent – the steak and prawn are very good. Service is quite slow. The first night they forgot one dessert and 2nd night was even worse. No one came to check in. My husband had to go to the bar to get coke and bill (when we finished dinner). We asked for more water (twice) and steak knife which never came. The table beside us asked for their salad three times and it came so late that they had to pack it up. It’s not like the lounge is busy. So if you don’t mind half-serving yourself, the dishes are worth trying.

Ordered some sushi rolls To go to enjoy in my hotel room and pretty disappointed with the smoked kanpachi roll. The menu did not say it had cucumbers in it nor that it was deep fried. When I called to confirm the staff sounded confused and then all they had to offer was “I’m sorry.” I expect better customer service for such a high end place, at least offer to make me a different roll. If I had known it was deep fried I would not have ordered it.

Beautiful scenery great place to have dinner if you’re staying at the Fairmont orchid or not. Our server was Jacob and he was very friendly and nice and knew a lot about the menu. We had the Collar fish, curry, Volcano sushi, Bao Buns, and the best matcha lava cake! Easily the best dessert I’ve had in years. Looking forward to dining with Jacob and Binchotan again in the near future.

This review is for happy hour which was excellent. We sat at the bar and was served by the friendly bartender Christian. All the drinks (we got 7 different drinks total) were truly delicious. I loved the proportion of coconut in everything. The drinks were well balanced. The food was excellent as well and well priced for happy hour. Rankings (pretty close, might as well be tied): Bao buns (two per serving), deep friend spring rolls and shishito peppers (amazingly charred).

TLDR good for nice dinner in a pinch but there are other better options on this side of the island.
Takoyaki were OK, lacked flavor a bit and not as much octopus in them.
Volcano Roll delicious. Bincho Roll also very good, and would order again but not the best Waygu I had in the area (CanoeHouse Waygu Tataki was 2x better).
Sashimi Set high quality fish.
Grilled Kanpachi SO good, I went back and ordered it again. The fish itself is so soft and moist. The mushrooms add incredible flavor and texture. A little pricey (~$60) for the portion but not unheard of for the area/hotel.
Atmosphere was just weird….super empty. No one inside either time we went around 7/8pm. Outside was quiet and we ended up being one of the only people out there.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere. The kind hostess seated us outside with a nice view of the resort. Sam and Brooke did a great job serving us.
We ate the grilled kanpachi, fried whole snapper, tuna crispy rice, and kimchi fried rice. All of them were amazing. The kanpachi was moist and delicious. The tuna crispy rice was amazing, and the kimchi fried rice was packed with flavor. If you like whole fish and don’t mind bones, the snapper was amazing with a great sauce. Eat the eyes too for good luck.
For dessert we had the brûléed Japanese cheesecake which came with kona coffee ice cream and chocolate espresso beans.
Although it was pricy, it was a nice treat and a great experience. We’d come here again!

I’m not going to lie, I’m very perplexed by the relatively mediocre rating of the restaurant. I always keep an open mind and I’m glad I did. My husband and I dined there this evening to celebrate our honeymoon and The food was spectacular.
We ordered the Tuna Crispy Rice, chicken karaage, pork gyoza, crab and corn croquettes, hot rock wagyu beef and several delicious cocktails. The food was extremely well executed and was delicious beyond our expectations. Accompanying sauces really elevated the plates of food.
Our server was great- friendly and informative. It took a little time for him to get to our table but he checked in and apologized for the wait. It’s clear they are short staffed and servers are doing the best they can to manage it. Once he got our food and drink orders in he was on his game and made sure we were well taken care of. The initial service was a bit slow, but everything else made up for it.
Cocktails were delicious. The bar menu has an amazing chart of their drinks as far as light vs heavy/boozy, fruity vs sour and where each cocktail falls on that “roadmap”.
This place is much better than the 3.6 I’m seeing at the time of my review. Be patient and check it out. You won’t be disappointed. I hope to go back before we move islands.
PS: their breakfast buffet is amazing. You can find anything you want.

This is a review directed at the owner and management, not the wait staff. The servers were great and seemed to be doing the best with what they’re given. The kitchen however is clearly understaffed. I echo the other reviews in that we shouldn’t be waiting for over an hour for our main course, especially in the windy cold conditions tonight. Can you please stop being cheap and hire more kitchen staff if you’re going to charge premium $$$ for your food?

We had such a fabulous experience with our server Brandi (as well as Heather a different night!) she explained all the dishes, gave recommendations, went above and beyond to ensure our experience was exceptional. Thank you for making our last night in Hawaii so memorable!!
Ps we loved the pineapple and Li Hing Mui, thank you so much!!

The wait staff were great, the food not so much. We were sick all night after eating here. We all had a bit of eachother dishes. No one finished their meal. Gotta be blunt since this place is $$$. We could have grilled and made better Udon ourselves and have had much better sushi rolls. Even if we hadn’t gotten food poisoning, this place is off our list for good. Looks good enough to eat but so disappointed to have gotten ill from eating it.
