Food came out fast, we were given recommendations, and everyone in the place seem to be a helping hand.
However, I decided to order another drink, different from the 1st I ordered: and it’s a signature drink – Long Island. It happened to taste over sweetened and watered down — same with my partner’s Old Fashioned. I took only 1 small sip of it, and asked if I could just swap for the initial drink I ordered once our server came by again, as that one was not up to par.
My waitress went to ask who I assumed to be the owner or manager – that responded that they could “fix it” by adding more coke, or remake it, but it couldn’t come off of the bill & I couldn’t swap the drink. (odd) Keep in mind my original request was just to swap for another drink, didn’t mind the money.
The owner/ manager came by & her response was “Odd drink, isn’t it?” ?????????????? I assumed it to be friendly banter and just laughed, informing her “it’s not my go-to, but hey — it’s gameday!”
They then sent the waitress to collect the drink to “fix it,” after 5 minutes or so I’m assuming she was the bartender – brought it back over, and said she added more coke & also some more liquor to help it. I wasn’t okay with my drink coming back after being “fixed” and I explained that. I literally just wanted a swap, and told them I’d still pay, I didn’t mind. The bartender initially said it was just refreshed, and then changed it and said she “remade the entire drink.” I just told them I don’t want it, but I’d still pay for it (again) to just solve the issue. They THEN offered for me to swap my drink to resolve at my time of checkout — I declined, as we had already wasted 20 minutes on 1 drink issue.
Ultimately they offered to comp the drink (not sure if that even happened or not). Still tipped the waitress 25% because she was awesome, overall not the ideal first experience. Simple fix that turned into an annoying debacle. The atmosphere is amazing, other staff were super friendly. Food was nice too.
Your first decision is between 3 different dining areas, each with it’s own feel. There is the traditional restaurant dining room option. I don’t believe I’ve ever eaten in that room. At the corner of the building is the dining room/bar combo. It’s a little more lively. A little louder. Families with small kids, they can be loud and no one will notice or care. Note that I mentioned “corner.” It’s not just the corner of the building, but it’s huge windows sit along side an intersection in historic, tree lined, downtown Northport. Great if you want that ‘outdoors’ feel, but with air conditioning. Then there’s the patio. Most of the tables are covered by a huge awning. Others have umbrellas . On a nice night it’s a truly inviting place to spend time.
The regular menu is great. There’s variety, creativity and I’ve never been disappointed. If you go with some friends, hit that appetizer menu, hard. This is where I think Billy’s shines best. This menu seems set up for people who enjoy tapas. It can’t be accidental. I may have missed it, but I haven’t noticed their appetizer combo. Think, charcuterie board for people who also enjoy olives. I may have missed it. I’ve just now realized I’ve been going in already knowing what I wanted. Lately, it’s been their burgers, usually with house made potato chips. I don’t even think I’m embarrassed about it.
