I don’t give out many 5 star reviews, I’m honest and fair with my experiences resulting in over 19 million views of my Google reviews. Trust me, Billy Sims is one of the best!
A few items the group ordered – ribs, brisket sandwich, sausage, beans, slaw… all were great.
My “go to” order- the brisket sandwich (chopped) and a side of the beans. Let me say, THE BEST BEANS IN THE BUSINESS!!!! I let the meat and sauce drip from the sandwich into the beans…

My partner and I love the menu at Billy Sims, but our experience in Joplin has been lackluster. We used to go to the other location under prior ownership and would consistently be missing sides, waiting in the drive-thru for half an hour, poor customer service, etc. When the new location opened up we were ecstatic to try the new place with hopes that the food would be great along with the service.
The food is excellent, we have had 10/10 experience on the food itself. However, the wait times and customer service has made this place a nightmare all over again. We were calling to place orders because it was easier that way, but on 2 separate occasions when we called we were placed on hold and nobody ever came back. We made it to the restaurant and the phone was still laying on the counter and on the line with me while the employee was standing at the register waiting for us to come in. The second time, I hung up and attempted to call back and the phone was left on a busy signal to not allow anymore calls. Tried for over half an hour and the phone never came live again. Came into the restaurant, phone’s on the counter again with nobody next to it. Yikes.
The last couple of times I decided to place an online order. I wait the time it tells me (usually 15-30 minutes depending how busy) and when I show up – my order is still not even started yet. Consistently.
Last night when I went in, I went up to the counter and shared that I had a to-go order (it was 25 minutes since i placed my order). He asked my name, sighed, then said “we’re just now starting it sorry we’re busy” – no worries. Expected it, honestly. A lady was in line behind me and placed an order as I walked away from the counter. I went back out to my car where my family was waiting, and sat in the car and watched to wait for them to finish up my order.
I watched the lady that came in after me and placed her order AT THE COUNTER get her food handed to her, I went inside again and they said “they were still working on it”. I watched them pick up my half-completed order from behind them and finish working on it. 45 minutes after I placed my order did they finally hand it over. At this point, the food’s cold, my 2 year old son is a mess in the car, I left and wasted $40 on that experience.
The customer service is awful. Full stop. No management, bad attitudes, unprofessional, and I can eat a full meal with a waiter for the same price and time it takes to pickup a to-go order from this location.
My company considered catering with you guys for an upcoming event and I dissuaded them from doing so based on this most recent experience. I hope you value the feedback, because the food and menu are delicious. But these other problems will run this location into the ground like the last one if they aren’t addressed fast.
The sliced brisket, which was lean, didn’t quite have the same depth of flavor as the chopped version, but that’s likely because it lacked the fatty richness that makes brisket shine. For dessert, I tried the cherry stacker, and it was absolutely fantastic—a sweet way to end the meal.
On top of the great food, the staff was warm, welcoming, and friendly. All in all, an excellent experience that has me already looking forward to my next visit! And as a bonus, they are located next to Tropical Smoothie Cafe, my favorite place to grab a drink!
I feel bad for the 2 over worked workers. Manager needs to do a better job!
It took us 20 minutes to just tell them twice what we ordered because the girl who took our order disappeared for like 5 minutes and the guy helping her was doing it all and had to ask us what we ordered. The ribs are great but I wish our food was hot. My Mac and cheese was like warm. The sound was undercooked, and lacks CHEESE . They sprinkle a little on a lukewarm potato. The toast was the only hot thing on our plate.
