We stopped in while visiting from Arizona. First off the girl helping take our order was so patient while the kids were figuring out all the flavors and options. Second the ability to make adjustments to the menu items to tailor my order to get exactly what I wanted was amazing. The prices, portion and the flavor were fantastic.

The sloppy joe sauce on those nachos and coney dog makes it all happy! There’s a hint of sweetness to that sauce that sends it over the top. We ordered the strawberry shortcake with cake batter and banana pudding ice cream. Damn!! Thanks to the local Gent who recommended the sloppy joes!

This place as a ton of super unique and yummy sounding options. I got a coconut, almond and chocolate chip ice cream and it was so very delicious. My husband got some sort of sundae and it was a really big size for what we paid, but he also really enjoyed it. We will be coming back!

The best ice cream stand in Akron/Portage Lakes! Their specials change pretty frequently and are always delicious. They have decent food options too. Their chicken salad croissant is amazing, but it does have pineapple in it so it’s a little on the sweeter side. The staff is incredibly friendly and even with a long line in front and the drive thru they work quickly!

Biggins’ Big Dip is a small ice cream shop right across the way from Portage Lakes in Ohio. They also serve savory foods such as hot dogs, chicken salad sandwiches and nachos. Yet again another classic shop that’s been around for a while and stays true to it’s classic atmosphere. The service is nice and is run mostly by women which is a nice touch.
Quick Verdict: I would recommend Biggins’ to anyone looking for tasty ice creams that can be dipped! I would come back.
The wife and I had coney dogs and the mother-in-law had the chicken salad sandwich. I’ve had a few coney dogs around here in northeastern ohio and this is definitely the sweetest dog I’ve had by far. The buns were sweet and so was the sauce. I feel as though an ice cream shop should have food that is more savory and leave the sweetness to the ice cream and other sweet things. I had the “footlong” coney dog and it was just two standard dogs side by side. I finished them so they weren’t terrible but after eating ice cream my stomach was just overloaded with sweets. I feel as though if they just left the sugar out of the sauce it would be great. I got a sweet tea (in hindsight not a good idea) and it didn’t really taste freshly brewed and tasted concentrated from the tap. The mother in law liked her sandwich.
Now, this is Biggins’ BIG DIP so I’m not really going to let the food kill the rating for this place as they are known for the ice cream and dipped cones so of course we had to try it. I had the peanut butter cup in a cake cone dipped in chocolate. The wife had a chocolate and vanilla swirled cake cone with crunch coat and sprinkles coated around it. The soft serve is typical ice cream and made with a cream base and is smooth and enjoyable to eat. My ice cream was a handmade flavor with peanut butter swirl and peanuts mixed in chocolate ice cream. This was a nice way to enjoy peanut butter cup as most people just mix in reese’s in their ice cream and call it a day. The chocolate was rich and not overpowering and there was plenty of peanut butter swirl to make it known that it was not just chocolate ice cream you were eating.
Overall, I like the fact that you can get different flavors besides vanilla and chocolate dipped! There’s not a lot of places offering dipped cones around here so this is definitely a gem for that reason. The different homemade flavors that can also be dipped is a nice touch, I would probably just avoid the savory food here unless sweet savory food is your thing. But one thing is for certain, I would definitely come back for the dipped cones!

Black cherry ice cream was excellent! Cute local place! LOTS of options. Ice cream, sorbet, sugar free options, sundaes, waffle cones, splits, nachos, sandwiches, bbq pulled pork sliders, chips, combo meals, etc! Fast service. Friendly staff. Can pay & tip on card, no cash needed. She said they put their chicken salad on a croissant, that sounded really tasty!! I will be returning for the strawberry shortcake!! Thank you!

First visit yesterday. It was so humid, I was glad to learn they had a drive-thru! I followed the advice of another reviewer and chose the Black Raspberry Chip frozen yogurt. It was good, but I’ll get a full fat creamy flavor next time.
