Big Wong is one of those classic Cantonese restaurants where you can count on to get all the classic rice, noodles and congee dishes. I don’t come to Chinatown as much as I used to so I was happy to see that Big Wong has gone unchanged. I’ve been coming here since childhood. I placed an order to go consisting of a roast pork & chicken over rice, century egg & pork congee and a fried cruller.
I had the congee for lunch which had a generous amount of pork and century egg – perfect for a cold day. I saved the roast pork & chicken for dinner which was also a generous dish. Unfortunately, the roast pork was dry, probably because it wasn’t consumed for some time.
I was greeted with a smile and Service was fast!

We went with a friend to China town to have lunch and do some food shopping. We took the subway down and back which is speedy. Getting off on canal and then a short walk to Big Wong. Our Chinese friend orders for us so we get the best deal. Two types of roast pork. Really delicious. Cash only.
Highly recommended.
Stopped in again today to order roast pork to take home for dinner. Large container as shown for $18.50. Not bad price and delicious.
Rey busy place every time we stop there.

Big Wong is a well established China Town eatery, known for its roasted meats. You have the option of dining in, and ordering from a waitress, or take out, in which case you tell the man at the register what you’d like.

I had the 2 BBQ Meats Over Rice Combination (You pick 2 from an assortment), I chose duck (because I’m a duck fanatic) and the roast pork (which is different than Roast Pig, which is pork shoulder with crispy skin). The meat was not only flavorful, but the meat was also juicy and tender.

Big Wong is very affordable, and a great place to have a meal.

Big Wong is one of those classic old school Chinatown spots that’s been around forever. The ginger scallion fried fish and the lobster were both excellent super flavorful and cooked just right. The vibe is nofrills, exactly what you’d expect from a traditional Chinatown restaurant. Just a heads-up, it’s cash only, so come prepared.

If you’re looking for classic, no-nonsense Chinese food in NYC, Big Wong is the place to go. This spot has become one of my favorite go-to restaurants whenever I’m craving comfort food that hits the spot every single time.

The roast meats here are absolutely legendary. The roast pork is tender with just the right amount of crispy edges and a sweet-savory glaze that’s incredibly addictive. The roast duck is also fantastic—perfectly seasoned with crispy skin and juicy meat. I always order a combination over rice, and they’re very generous with the portions. You’ll leave full and satisfied.

Another must-try dish is the wonton noodle soup. The broth is light but flavorful, and the wontons are plump and packed with shrimp. It’s a simple dish but done so well. If you’re feeling extra hungry, adding roast duck on top is the way to go.

The service is fast and efficient—don’t expect small talk or fancy plating. This is the kind of place where you sit down, order, and the food comes out hot within minutes. That’s part of its charm. It feels authentic and nostalgic, like stepping into a busy Cantonese eatery in Hong Kong.

The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and portion size. It’s honestly hard to find this level of value in Manhattan these days.

In short, Big Wong is a Chinatown staple for a reason. Delicious food, generous portions, quick service, and that comforting, old-school vibe that keeps you coming back. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this is a must-visit spot if you love Chinese food.

Big Wong, located in Chinatown, is a fantastic spot for classic Cantonese dishes at reasonable prices. We ordered the roast duck, beef with bitter melon on rice, Cantonese-style beef chow fun (湿炒牛河), and hot & sour soup.

The roast duck was a highlight ,beautifully roasted with crispy skin and juicy, tender meat. The flavor of the duck was rich and savory, with just the right amount of seasoning. However, a word of advice: it’s best enjoyed hot because once it cools down, the fat tends to solidify, making it a bit greasy. Served alongside plum sauce, the roast duck was a delight, but you’ll want to dig in while it’s fresh.

The Cantonese-style beef chow fun (湿炒牛河) was another standout. It consisted of stir-fried flat rice noodles, marinated beef slices, bean sprouts, onions, and green onions, all tossed in a delicious soy-based sauce. The noodles had a slight char, giving them a perfect crispness that paired well with the tender beef and savory sauce.

The beef with bitter melon on rice was a comforting classic, with the bitterness of the melon adding a nice contrast to the savory beef. The hot & sour soup, however, had a bit too much vinegar for my liking, which overpowered the other flavors.

The employees were helpful and friendly, providing great service despite the bustling atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, and it’s a little cheaper if you pay in cash rather than with a card, which is a nice tip for budget-conscious diners.

Big Wong is an excellent spot for authentic Cantonese food, especially if you’re craving roast duck or beef chow fun

This is your neighborhood soul food spot for every mood and moment. Feeling happy, sad, drained from a long day, or just homesick? Craving that familiar chaos of an impatient Asian uncle/ grandma asking if you’re ready to order yet? The kind of yelling that oddly feels like love? Yeah, they’ve got all that.

Whether you’re in need of congee, noodle soup, stir-fry over rice, fried rice, or even lobster they’ve got you covered. Think of it as your favorite diner, but with real-deal Cantonese comfort food.

The food here is always fresh, cooked with that homemade touch. Sure, the service might not win awards. but let’s be real, for the price and the flavor, there’s nothing to complain about.

The atmosphere isn’t some fancy five star setup, but it doesn’t need to be. It feels like home. There’s a comfort in walking through those doors, especially if you grew up around here. That familiar smell hits you the same one you remember from after school meals as a kid. It’s nostalgic, warm, and real.

In my opinion? A+ all the way.

You can’t go wrong with big Wong! Genuine Chinese food right in the heart of china Town. Hard to beat that! Loved the chicken fried rice but there were so many options to try you would have to come back every day for a year to do so. They are CASH ONLY so in today’s world you just have to plan to take out some money for your visit. We also tried the vegetable spring rolls, the garlic beef and the green beans. Friendly staff as well.

Hearty, comforting and balanced breakfast. Congee with salt pork and century egg with the fried dough really hit the spot. Roast pork steamed rice roll was also really good.

Went for a late lunch here because we wanted authentic Cantonese food. The restaurant was large and fairly empty when we were there.

We ordered mixed vegetables, pan-fried noodles, and 2 roast meats over rice. The service was pretty poor given that it was past lunch rush hour. We had to ask for the soda that we ordered 3x! Meanwhile, our meal was already half finished.

The flavor of the gravy on the pan-fried noodles were on point. They gave a lot of vegetables and a wide variety too! We thought the size of the roast meats over rice dish was kind of small. It was disappointing to see there were no vegetables included! The dish was okay. If we didn’t order the vegetable noodles, we would have ordered a small side of vegetables to go with the rice.

Overall, the prices were moderate to expensive for what it is as it’s located on Mott Street. For cheaper food, it’s best to go off Mott Street. Given the poor service and fairly pricey food, I will not return any time soon.
