I had the congee for lunch which had a generous amount of pork and century egg – perfect for a cold day. I saved the roast pork & chicken for dinner which was also a generous dish. Unfortunately, the roast pork was dry, probably because it wasn’t consumed for some time.
I was greeted with a smile and Service was fast!
Highly recommended.
Stopped in again today to order roast pork to take home for dinner. Large container as shown for $18.50. Not bad price and delicious.
Rey busy place every time we stop there.
I had the 2 BBQ Meats Over Rice Combination (You pick 2 from an assortment), I chose duck (because I’m a duck fanatic) and the roast pork (which is different than Roast Pig, which is pork shoulder with crispy skin). The meat was not only flavorful, but the meat was also juicy and tender.
Big Wong is very affordable, and a great place to have a meal.
The roast meats here are absolutely legendary. The roast pork is tender with just the right amount of crispy edges and a sweet-savory glaze that’s incredibly addictive. The roast duck is also fantastic—perfectly seasoned with crispy skin and juicy meat. I always order a combination over rice, and they’re very generous with the portions. You’ll leave full and satisfied.
Another must-try dish is the wonton noodle soup. The broth is light but flavorful, and the wontons are plump and packed with shrimp. It’s a simple dish but done so well. If you’re feeling extra hungry, adding roast duck on top is the way to go.
The service is fast and efficient—don’t expect small talk or fancy plating. This is the kind of place where you sit down, order, and the food comes out hot within minutes. That’s part of its charm. It feels authentic and nostalgic, like stepping into a busy Cantonese eatery in Hong Kong.
The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and portion size. It’s honestly hard to find this level of value in Manhattan these days.
In short, Big Wong is a Chinatown staple for a reason. Delicious food, generous portions, quick service, and that comforting, old-school vibe that keeps you coming back. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, this is a must-visit spot if you love Chinese food.
The roast duck was a highlight ,beautifully roasted with crispy skin and juicy, tender meat. The flavor of the duck was rich and savory, with just the right amount of seasoning. However, a word of advice: it’s best enjoyed hot because once it cools down, the fat tends to solidify, making it a bit greasy. Served alongside plum sauce, the roast duck was a delight, but you’ll want to dig in while it’s fresh.
The Cantonese-style beef chow fun (湿炒牛河) was another standout. It consisted of stir-fried flat rice noodles, marinated beef slices, bean sprouts, onions, and green onions, all tossed in a delicious soy-based sauce. The noodles had a slight char, giving them a perfect crispness that paired well with the tender beef and savory sauce.
The beef with bitter melon on rice was a comforting classic, with the bitterness of the melon adding a nice contrast to the savory beef. The hot & sour soup, however, had a bit too much vinegar for my liking, which overpowered the other flavors.
The employees were helpful and friendly, providing great service despite the bustling atmosphere. The prices are reasonable, and it’s a little cheaper if you pay in cash rather than with a card, which is a nice tip for budget-conscious diners.
Big Wong is an excellent spot for authentic Cantonese food, especially if you’re craving roast duck or beef chow fun
Whether you’re in need of congee, noodle soup, stir-fry over rice, fried rice, or even lobster they’ve got you covered. Think of it as your favorite diner, but with real-deal Cantonese comfort food.
The food here is always fresh, cooked with that homemade touch. Sure, the service might not win awards. but let’s be real, for the price and the flavor, there’s nothing to complain about.
The atmosphere isn’t some fancy five star setup, but it doesn’t need to be. It feels like home. There’s a comfort in walking through those doors, especially if you grew up around here. That familiar smell hits you the same one you remember from after school meals as a kid. It’s nostalgic, warm, and real.
In my opinion? A+ all the way.
We ordered mixed vegetables, pan-fried noodles, and 2 roast meats over rice. The service was pretty poor given that it was past lunch rush hour. We had to ask for the soda that we ordered 3x! Meanwhile, our meal was already half finished.
The flavor of the gravy on the pan-fried noodles were on point. They gave a lot of vegetables and a wide variety too! We thought the size of the roast meats over rice dish was kind of small. It was disappointing to see there were no vegetables included! The dish was okay. If we didn’t order the vegetable noodles, we would have ordered a small side of vegetables to go with the rice.
Overall, the prices were moderate to expensive for what it is as it’s located on Mott Street. For cheaper food, it’s best to go off Mott Street. Given the poor service and fairly pricey food, I will not return any time soon.
