Big Rock Chophouse is honestly incredible. From the second you walk in, it just feels special. The inside is absolutely gorgeous, warm, elegant, but still comfortable, like the perfect mix of upscale and welcoming. It’s the kind of place that works for a big celebration, but also just a really amazing dinner when you want great food and a beautiful atmosphere.
The staff is so well-trained and genuinely kind. Everyone we interacted with was attentive without being overbearing, friendly without being fake. You can tell they care about the experience, not just turning tables especially our server Calvin, who is absolutely wonderful.
And the food… I truly don’t have enough good things to say. Every single thing we ordered was out of this world. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, beautifully presented. There wasn’t one item that was just “good”… everything was exceptional. It’s hands down the best meal I’ve had in Michigan and officially my new favorite spot.
Big Rock isn’t just another nice restaurant, it’s a whole experience. A total gem. I already can’t wait to go back.

What a beautiful establishment! This is the perfect spot for an anniversary, celebration or date night. They do welcome kids and families. The ambiance is very romantic, we loved the decor! The service was exceptional everyone was so helpful and nice…they are all very good at they’re jobs. Be aware that the bread they offer is NOT free….the food itself was out of this world and beyond delicious! The drinks were creative and poured to perfection! The pricing is a tad high but the experience, food and drinks are more than worth it! Definitely recommend to everyone!

What a fun place for a special occasion! Celebrated my Dad’s birthday here, and we’re so glad we chose Big Rock.
We got a nice big booth that allowed us to look across the restaurant. The interior was grand yet cozy, and definitely had a buzzy vibe.
I got the Smoked Old Fashioned (yummy), my dad got a glass of Champagne, and my mom had two mocktails – the CosNoPolitan and a virgin French 75.
The whipped ricotta was a fab way to start off the meal, though I do wish they gave us a couple more crackers
I got the Porcini Crusted Filet Mignon as my main. The gorgonzola sauce had the perfect amount of blue cheesiness, and the potato gnocchi was fresh and a wonderful addition to the filet. I wish the porcini was a bit more apparent in the dish, but it was still delicious. The spiced broccolini had a great kick to it, and the parmesan potatoes had an amazing texture and flavor to them.
The service was top notch – our waitress Melissa was knowledgable, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. We also had several other staff members check on us throughout our meal.

We had been awaiting the grand reopening of this restaurant for a while and were incredibly excited when we visited. The interior of the restaurant is breathtaking and each section of the restaurant is more gorgeous than the next. Truly a beautiful place to come with a loved one or your girlfriend’s. Service was phenomenal and the staff really go above and beyond to make your dining experience great. We ordered the steak, branzino and a few sides. We did miss having good bread service with our meal. The tomato focaccia they offered was delicious, but the portion is small. We ordered 3 deserts and the creme brûlée was the winner. Overall very glad to see this spot re opened in the area.

A traditional Italian flare type food. Service was impeccable. Was seated promptly. Make sure you make reservations. The place is a very busy place valet parking. Food was good. I would come back again and maybe sit at the bar just to enjoy a different angle of the Restaurant. But it was very busy and hard to hear everybody at the table. We all had a good time.

When we stepped out of our car, we were greeted by very kind valet employees who immediately helped us out. The restaurant from the outside is beautiful and lit up with eye-catching lights. The inside is just as stunning with beautiful furniture and decorations that display a luxurious feel. We had a reservation at 8:30 PM, and there was a slight wait. We were standing for a while until we were finally seated. The wait was no issue for me since it gave me more time to take some pictures. The employees seated us in a beautiful part of the restaurant, which is very nice to see that there are so many different areas inside. The service itself was very pleasant and I found the staff to be quite friendly and helpful. Our server was a sweet woman who was kind and made our entire table very comfortable. She also gave me a great recommendation to order the Parmesan potatoes, which I loved. They were to die for. We ordered the burrata and calamari as appetizers to which were up to our expectations. They were very tasty and we enjoyed them. Then, for my meal, I ordered the chicken saltimbocca with a side of Parmesan potatoes. I enjoyed my dish very much. The table ordered a variety of things ranging from the pennette alla vodka to the carbonara, and I tried some of these dishes and found them to be quite delicious. The dessert was a tiramisu for my birthday and I was in love with it. The taste was incredible as I shared it amongst the members of my party. The only issue I had was that there was a small spider crawling on our table that we had to remove with our napkin, and we informed a kind employee and she apologized many times and gave us a new one. It was a bit scary, but I was glad that it was not in any of our food or drinks. Either way, the food itself was very tasty and the aesthetic made up for it. Overall, my experience at Big Rock Italian Chophouse was pleasant and I was satisfied with the service.

We were so excited to go back to one of our old favorites. It’s been heartbreaking since it was closed a couple years ago. The ambiance was amazing and the service was fantastic. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming. Too salty for sure and not enough seasoning/flavor. Shellfish is excellent. Steak was under seasoned. Lasagna was way too salty.
Hopefully the kitchen staff is just working out the bugs. We will come again and hope for a better food experience.

Cameron Mitchell and his partners spent nearly $13M to redo this restaurant. Loving Ocean Prime, I was geeked to experience it.
Perhaps it would rival Jeff Ruby’s, Mastro’s or even Pappas Bros. And finally the Detroit area would have a signature restaurant.
Alas, it wasn’t to be. The bar area is compact for a place that seats 360. Cocktails are $18 and nicely done.
Service should have been impeccable with each server only having three tables. Of course a server called in sick so our server had four tables. But still, why did we wait more than 30 minutes to order apps? Why did our favorite employee from Ocean Prime, Tiffany, take care of the apps for us?
The menu is questionable at best. The Italian Steakhouse concept doesn’t work here. I don’t want rice balls and chicken parm with my seafood platter and steak. I want hot fresh fries, mashed potatoes and good bread to dip the cocktail sauce in. Alas, they don’t serve any of these items.
Oh, there is a bread service for $12, the first of its kind in the Detroit area. It matches the valet cost both not including tip.
The apps were mediocre at best. Calamari was luke warm, wedge salad was so unwedge it wasn’t edible and the paper thin ahi was OK.
The wait for the entrees was excruciating as so many reviewers have stated. Clearly the kitchen is either too small or overwhelmed with the menu selection.
None of the pastas looked interesting. Steak? No filet larger than 10 oz. No bone-in filet or porterhouse. The potato dish they had was hard and disgusting.
Desserts? Forget butter cake, key lime pie or fresh baked cookies. They have 10-layer cake slices that are tasteless.
Overall, tremendous disappointment and there is zero reason for us to return. Management is well aware of the issues, but sorry Cameron, you need to step in and update both the menu and service level.

My significant other and I had such a great time! We came out on a Thursday evening for date night and our waiter Jared was amazing. He went over the menu and recommended entrees and drinks for us. He was very attentive without hovering while checking in at all the right moments. I recommend Jared for all first time costumers. Host was very sweet as well. Overall 10/10 for me!

I have to say I had high hopes for the new Big Rock but left disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful. The staff was excellent, but the food just didn’t cut it. The veal parm was extremely salty and had an odd taste to it. The shrimp added to the tortellini were over cooked and rubbery. I’m a big fan of artichokes but even the flavors in the soup didn’t mesh well. The meatball app was good, ricotta cheese app was okay but the creme brulee was absolutley outstanding. At least they finished strong. It would have been nice to go up to the cigar lounge for dessert but it requires a membership or $100 per person for non-members. Also, there is no on-site parking so prepare to valet. I really hope they turn things around. They have a lot invested and it would be great to see this place make it. I’m not one to normally right reviews nor one to complain but they definitely need to step things up. I have plenty of great memories from Big Rock back in the day and it would be great to have many more.
