Been coming to BIG Norm’s off & on for several years now whether dine-in or take-out and has always been a pleasant experience.
I’d be lying if I didn’t mention that the prices are a bit high which is the main complaint from many on here. In fact, the prices have always been high compared to most Chicago style grills I’ve been to even before the COVID hit.
But of course there are some things you need to factor in starting with the monthly rent (possibly the largest factor), utilities, employees and the rising cost of the food supply.
Overall I’m always more than satisfied with the service, cleanliness when dining in and the quality of food which does taste pretty good here.
Although the dogs are Redhot Chicago not Vienna Beef, they’re still good. Gyros which is what I’ve had the most here are really good, Italian Beef, burgers & fries are all pretty good as well.
Sadly since I’m a foodie and always exploring new restaurants, don’t get out here as much as I’d like to. Norm is a down-to-earth friendly guy and I wish him several more years of boomin’ business to come.

They advertised 2 dog special. Thinking special as in less money!?? Nope cost me 18$ for 2 dogs n fries. I ordered everything on it they cheaped out!! If you charge too follow then customer expects top quality it was soggy too. Never again yes you do cheap on on toppings where is the onions? See threw tomato rottin pepper pictures do justice and what happened to customer right?

Been to Norms only a few times. It’s an eat in place restaurant so it’s no frills. I get the roast beef, and it really is as good as many brag about. It’s my to go to item when I stop in for lunch. I by pass other chains to come here. that should tell you something.

Got an impossible burger the cost was average $10 with cheese & no fries or drink . But I wanted to try something different & not the popular fast food chains. It was delicious & worth trying! Maybe I’ll be back, when I have more; because they cooked my order fresh (some minutes of wait) & bread was soft.

I’ve been going to big norms for 20 to 25 years. I don’t know if something has changed lately if Norm went to different suppliers but the food just hasn’t been the same especially the burgers my fries sometimes they’re overcooked sometimes they’re undercooked. I never had that issue in the past I’ve always enjoyed getting a chocolate shake. I know in the past workers didn’t like making them But now they keep telling me the machine is broken. Also, I noticed Norm hasn’t been around as much lately, I’m Jerry’s taking some well-deserved time off and cut back on his hours, but I think his current workers aren’t living up to what he used to provide. It’s a shame is being a family restaurant in an area like this we like to support it, but something has changed and I sure hope it goes back to the way it used to be it’s only been this way the last few months.

My son had the Italian beef, I had the double smashburger with cheese. I was in Norm’s years ago, and my oldest son wanted to stop as we were driving by today. I have to admit the food was good The meat was super fresh, the Italian bread fresh, the buns fresh, the only thing I wish, they would take down all of those yellow plastic chains. I don’t know why they’re up, maybe people drink all the pop? But it would be nice to be able to walk over there and top off your large drink while you’re eating. But anyway, that has nothing to do with the cleanliness which was excellent, and the food which matched the cleanliness. I’ve been to a lot of hot dog places in this area and others, and norms does a good job with the typical Chicago burgers and hot dogs, Maxwell Street Polish, and The dipped Italian beef. 35 bucks is a little steep, but it is worth it if you have that hankering. And I had it that day, lol!

Dining With Duane had the opportunity to stop here on a whim on July 26th,2024 to grab an authentic Chicago Style Dog. It was nothing less than amazingly delicious. The Dog was so flavorful! The Bun was so soft! Customer Service was amazing! Food was even better! A nice little unique family owned shop in Gurnee,IL. Been open 17 years and still going strong! Well, I was hoping to try this restaurant today and provide a nice review. I walked in, was the only one there, it was past the lunch rush. The employee behind the counter looked at me then looked down immediately, didn’t acknowledge my entrance, lol. I looked at the menu on the wall and a 2nd employee appeared from the back and went to the register. I was viewing the menu, as this was my first time here. No one said anything to me, they appeared very annoyed that I was there. After a few minutes of awkward silence, I simply walked out. It was such an unwelcome and uncomfortable feeling. Usually when you walk into a restaurant, you’re greeted with a hello. Hopefully I’ll try again soon, perhaps when the employees are having a better day.

Was in there today, 2 Hot dog Special $20!! What’s special?? It was soggy and not even warm. The woman smoking outside came in huffing and puffing like she was pissed we walked in. NEVER COMING BACK!! And if you eat it there they give you plastic cups like at chili’s so you can’t take any pop to go. This place is TRASH!!! aZERO STARS!
