I actually like his meats. When I got there he was out of everything, but I prepaid for his meat special and I didn’t regret it (even though it was a little more burned than usual). I think he may have overcharged in taxes, but overall I was satisfied and I will definitely be back because that sausage was delicious. I had the ribs and chicken as well. He’s a very friendly guy and always has a smile for you. Go check him out, you’ll be glad you did.

We had family visiting us and decided to try Big Mel’s for feeding our crowd. I called morning of and ask if they had enough pulled pork. Big Mel himself answered and told me he would check and call back. He called me back shortly and told me what he had and asked when I would need it. He had it ready for us. When I pulled up to the trailer with the smoker going full steam, I knew I had made a solid choice. Big Mel came out to greet us and I felt like I could immediately trust this man. I was blown away by the value and service we received. I felt like family. He wouldn’t even let me tip him and before we pulled out he stopped me to give me more food. I’m glad he did cause that BBQ chicken was the best I’ve ever had. We got about 10 lbs of pulled pork and he threw in sauce to go with it.
This man knows what he is doing both with BBQ and customer service. Will definitely go back and will recommend others to do the same.
He doesn’t have buns for sale, though I think he is considering adding some so just plan to have those in hand if you’re making pulled pork sandwiches.

Wow! welcome to FL style barbecue. Mel puts his heart and soul into every succulent bite. You can taste that the ribs are properly prepared with the right amount of trimming done to preserve the flavor without being greasy. meat was tender smoky and pulled from the bone easily. Mac and cheese was rich and cheddary without being too runny and noodles were done perfectly. Collard greens were to die for with bits of smoked turkey and tender to the fork. The baked “Cowboy style” beans with ground beef, hints of cinnamon and maple were a signature treat and made me want more and more. 5 stars in my book!

Years later and the food is still amazing. Some of the best ribs, BBQ chicken, and chicken wings in Tampa. The prices are very reasonable as well. Any time that I want some good BBQ but don’t feel like grilling, this is my go-to spot.
