Listen… I was NOT prepared. None of us were prepared.
So picture this:
It’s 25 degrees outside. My car is warm. My soul is warm. My legs? Firmly committed to not moving. Then my fiancée, yes, the woman I love, the woman who knows me better than I know myself, looks me dead in the eyes and says
“Get. Out. Of. The. Car.”
Why?
Because she claims I need to smell this place.
I’m thinking, “No smell is worth frostbite.”
I was wrong.
I was SO wrong.
The moment that icy car door cracked open, a warm, buttery, garlicky, mozzarella-infused cloud of pure holiness drifted across the parking lot and SLAPPED me directly in the face. I’m talking a full, spiritual assault. It was like the air itself grabbed me by my jacket and said,
“Get inside, coward. Destiny awaits.”
I stepped into Big John’s Pizza Queen and HOLY
The warmth hit me first, like a hug from a Pizza oven angel.
Then the smell.
THE SMELL.
It was like my nostrils opened a portal to another dimension where tomatoes are churned by cherubs and the dough sings ancient hymns. My frozen cheeks literally warmed up on the spot as if the pizzeria itself cupped my face and whispered, “Shhhhhhh you’re safe now.”
Suddenly our whole party, who had been cranky from the cold, started acting like we’d just discovered the cure for winter depression. Smiles everywhere. Mood boosted. Spirits lifted. The smell alone brought us together like some kind of pizza powered family therapy session.
Then the staff!
My GOD, the staff.
These people are so friendly it’s suspicious. I half expected them to start yapping about the Phillies or Eagles with us. They greeted us like returning friends, like we’d just journeyed across the tundra (which honestly, we kind of did). Every smile radiated “You’re about to have the best meal of your life,” and they were right.
The pizza?
Do you really need to ask?
It was a molten, heavenly, perfectly-balanced masterpiece. A cheese to sauce ratio crafted by someone who understands the fragility of human joy. Every bite rewired my taste buds. I swear my gastrointestinal tract stood up and applauded.
By the end, I sat there staring at my empty plate the way a parent stares at their grown child leaving for college, proud, emotional, and slightly grieving the loss.
Big John’s Pizza Queen is absolutely, unquestionably worth visiting.
Worth braving 25-degree weather.
Worth being forcibly dragged out of the car by my fiancée.
Worth every mile, every calorie, every moment of existential bliss.
If you don’t go, I honestly think you’re doing life wrong.
5 stars.
6 if they’d let me.
We got a half pepperoni, half cheese pizza. Thanks Pizza Queen.
