On a recent trip to the Big Island Hawai’i, my wife and I stopped in to Big Island Top Dog for an early lunch.
My wife had a Bacon your day Dog and I had the Adobo Dog (Portuguese sausage) with a side of mac salad. I had planed on eating only half my dog and saving the rest for later, but I had chowed the whole thing down before I realized it! Both dogs were delicious with ample toppings and condiments!
We were also fortunate enough to spend some time talking with the owner, Mike. He let us know that his Portuguese sausage was locally sourced there on the island. Mike is a super friendly guy selling some great food! I cannot recommend Big Island Top Dog highly enough! If you are a dog lover, this is a must stop when in the Hilo area.

My wife and I have been eating at Big Island Top Dogs for seven years.
We love Bug Island Top Dogs so much ch, it is our favorite place to go for Hamburgers and fries on the whole island. The burgers are huge, so, so good, everything is fresh.
Always made fresh just for you. The prices are so fair, if you have not eaten here,please give them a chance. If you are a tourist, please go, you will be very satisfied.
These hamburgers are as good as any top hamburger place on the crowded, crime ridden mainland.
Unfortunately, we have to go to the mainland for 24 months due to my wife’s work. My wife has thirty years in at her job, if she does not go to the mainland, she will lose her pension and medical and five years of invested stock. So we have to leave home and go to Arizona.
Thank you Big Island Top Dogs for all the wonderful food over the years ,I wanted to make it my last take out meal before leaving in several days. We went today 12-23-2025 right before they closed.
Enjoy the take out at a big Island Top Dogs, it is the best grindz around.

I accidentally came across this great local hot dog spot! I love a good chili dog and I’m always on the lookout for the best spots to try out. Needless to say, I’ve tried a few decent Hot Dog spots both in Hilo & Kona. But so far this is the only stop that made me stop and actually give a review!
Food was hot & fresh! The fries were great too. They also serve Fish n’ Chips (which I wanna try next time) and various other sandwich goodies! Definitely recommend this place! It’s mostly takeout but they have a couple of tables and bench seating to eat or sit while waiting on your food.

We were a family traveling from South Korea to Hawaii! We wanted to try the American-style hot dogs that the locals enjoy. The owner was very friendly and made us feel welcome and warm. The hot dogs were delicious. I still remember the friendly service and the delicious taste of the hot dogs. Thank you for embracing us with the spirit of Aloha. You made our trip even more perfect. We will definitely stop by again when we have the chance. I highly recommend this place if you’re ever on the Big Island!

I’ve been meaning to try Big Island Top Dogs for a long while. Finally got my chance last week. First I want to say the service is VERY friendly. Very welcoming. I ordered the chili cheese dog with fries. Both were very delicious though I think I like the Saucy Dog chili a little bit better but nonetheless, it was very good here at top dog. The fries were hot and seemed homemade. The interior is really quite fun and playful. Business seem to be steady. I know this is a local place and I’m sure it has many regular customers. also, the menu has a lot of other delicious sounding items, but I am excited to try in the future.
The Good: great hotdog lots of other choices on the menu. Services excellent atmosphere was fun.
The Bad: parking might be a bit challenging during busy periods, but other than that, I can’t think of anything else.

I am still thinking about this food. The banana Chantilly was unreal, and the bread pudding? Absolutely sinful. One bite and it was over for me. The staff was beyond friendly—warm, welcoming, and genuinely made you feel at home. Every time I come back to this island, this place is non-negotiable. I will literally plan my trip around stopping here before I leave to grab more banana bread. If you skip this spot, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Period.

The burger was not tasty it was dried no flavor almost like boiled , and all the toppings just drop out because lettuce and tomatoes are chopped, burger was cut in half and half of it just came out as well. Was difficult to eat.

First time visiting and the staff was so friendly and helpful. It was clean and organized (we wiped our table before and after we ate) and was the cutest little “dive” with signs and vibe match. The best burgers we’ve had on island for sure! Menu is easy to read and prices are awesome. No public restroom, its a small place that can only fit so many people at once. Parking lot was easy to get on and out but if it was real busy, spots would fill up fast. Will visit again for sure and cant wait to try the hotdogs!!
