We were attending a convention here and wanted something to eat that’s hard to find where we’re from, in this case Arizona. We had a party of five and everybody basically got something different. Everyone was absolutely thrilled with their food. Fresh, delicious, and seasoned perfectly. The crew there was incredibly friendly. They took their time with us and made sure we had a wonderful experience. If I come back here again I will certainly be stopping here. This was my third year coming to Louisville for this convention and we always try to check out local spots everywhere we go, and I must say this is absolutely the best place I’ve eaten here. You guys slayed it.

Door dash order:
My food was still hot when delivered thanks door dasher but anywho, I ordered the Ribs combo but they called me to let me know they do not have any Ribs so I ordered the smothered Pork Chop combo. Which I’m glad they called me and not just cancel my door dash like others may do.
The food flavor was different less savory and was semisweet, it tasted as if the cook had just taught themselves how to cook after leaving home before they’re legally grown. The greens taste like canned greens with slight glory green juice added. The Pork Chop was tender(Great) but the gravy tasted as if they used the Heinz turkey gravy in the jar and diluted it to thin it out then added it black pepper and onions. The cornbread was flavored correctly but it was old or dry, I could have used it to make homemade dressing. The potato salad taste like mustard deviled eggs with too firm potatoes. To sum it all up I will not be ordering from them again and whoever made the mustard potatoes salad please use that recipe for devil eggs you will make a killing in profit. Are y’all from up north or something, because there’s no way y’all from Kentucky or down to Mississippi!

This restaurant was amazing!!! I was craving soul food/southern food so we decided to come here. I got the fried chicken (dark meat) and let me tell y’all, the seasoning was perfect!! Especially if you like pepper. The meat itself was very juicy, very flavorful. I also got sweet potato casserole and that was out of the park!!! It was perfect, I enjoyed the texture and the flavors. And the macaroni and cheese was also to die for, I think it was baked?? My husband got the cat fish and that was very flavorful. I had to try a bite of everything he got lol. It was seasoned to perfect, and juicy, not dried. He also got the Mac and cheese and greens. The greens was seasoned and had a little spice to them. They made me want to attempt to make greens at home!! The green beans was also great. I know this review is long but I got one more thing to tell y’all about. The banana pudding was FIRE!!! It was thick and creamy. The prices was reasonable. Overall a very great place and I will definitely be coming back. The service was also A+. Ok I’m done, y’all got to go try it, you will not be disappointed!!!

I recommend this Southern eatery to, “Everyone” no matter what race or ethnic groups, or age. They have something accommodating for your palate type.
I had my Mommy’s Repass held there. I had a party of 20, there was adequate seating, parking, staff, fresh food (cooked to order), sides made from scratch, fresh spring salad, cornbread made from scratch to even include jalapeno cornbread. The three waitresses were phenomenal, they were energetic, attentive, accommodating, busy, and did it all with beautiful smiles on their faces.
They served my party 45 plates, cooked to order I must reiterate in three hours. Plus kept my guests drinks full.
The food is amazing! I live in Georgia, my Mommy got sick and I had to come here to Louisville. She passed away, I had been cleaning her house out and needed something to eat. I’m tired of fried chicken, seafood, and white castles. I have been craving vegetables from scratch and some cornbread. I googled and found Big Hopp’s Southern Eatery and some others. I chose Big Hopp’s, and had already been there three times before the Repass function.
Please give them a try you won’t be disappointed. Furthermore you won’t go anywhere else for your soul food needs after trying them.
Great job Saturday 12.14.2024 for
Mildred Williams Coleman repass at Big Hopp’s Southern Eatery
Special thanks to, “ALL” the staff that day and all the other days I was there. I’m coming back on Tuesday. My meal today was great! I forgot to take a picture of it.

I would go back again and sit in the dining area.
I had chicken livers, collard greens, sweet potatoe casserole, and cornbread.

Chicken and dumplings was cold and my smothered pork chops was mushy. Gave me the impression they were undercooked. A lil pricey for their servings. Not on my revisit list.

Loved everything we ordered. We had ribs, fried chicken, Mac n cheese, and greens and there wasn’t a single thing left on our plates. Definitely coming back.

I’m honestly trying to find the right words to say. My sister and I were getting our trucks worked on across the street and smelled what seemed like some good soul food. We just moved here from Philly less than a week ago, so we decided to give it a try.We ordered a Philly sandwich, but after taking just a small bite, I’d really suggest taking it off the menu or changing the name—it didn’t come close to what a Philly should be. We also tried the 4 wings with potato salad and mac & cheese. The sides weren’t to my liking, and the wings were maybe a 5 out of 10.Honestly, I think the place could really benefit from a full revamp—maybe even a visit from Gordon Ramsay’s show.

I’ve eaten at a lot of places but this has to be one of my favorite. The greens, the catfish, and the fried mushrooms are beautifully cooked down to the cornbread! highly recommend a stop in Shively for your favorite home-cooked meal.. big hopp’s doesn’t disappoint.
