We attended the recent Prix fixe Mardi Gras Dinner and had a wonderful time! The jazz band was amazing, the Creole dishes with the beer pairings were fabulous, and the table decor was lovely. They had a rock star crew serving us throughout the evening. The star of the show had to be the bananas foster dessert! We will definitely return for more of these private events!

As a beer review I’d give them 2/5, the beer was drinkable. I was told it was a sister brewery to Lua and I honestly don’t know how because Lua makes amazing beer and Big Grove is sub par in comparison. Staff were friendly and service was attentive. They have good food which was nice, definitely order their fries both were great. Unfortunately it took two attempts to cook my burger to the proper temperature and still came out wrong. I tried all their beer just to make sure I didn’t order the wrong thing and each one left me disappointed. Overall if you’re looking for a place for food give them a shot, but if you want great beer skip it and go check out Lua.

My family and I enjoyed going here for dinner. I would recommend and would return. This Big Grove location is set up well inside with the classy yet fun decor style, as well as outside with the patio seating and fire pit. It is spacious with plenty of seating. I ordered the stir fry noodles, which were a little too spicy for my taste as someone who prefers mild on a spice level, but were very good nonetheless. I also enjoyed a fruity and sweet mocktail from their menu. Not to mention, the free parking lot right next to the building is appreciated and convenient. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, my family and I had a good experience. We enjoyed checking out the gift shop after dinner as well.

If you’re in Des Moines and looking for a spot that blends great beer, delicious food, and a welcoming atmosphere, Big Grove Brewing is a must-visit! We recently stopped in and were instantly impressed by their outdoor patio area — it’s covered and comfortable, making it the perfect place to relax whether the sun is shining or there’s a light drizzle. The space feels inviting and well thought-out, with plenty of seating and a laid-back vibe.

I ordered one of their IPAs, and it did not disappoint — fresh, hoppy, and perfectly balanced. The beer menu is diverse enough to satisfy any taste, from hop lovers to those who prefer lighter or more unique brews. For food, I had the Butcher Board, which came with a flavorful sausage and a warm, soft pretzel. Everything was fresh, well-presented, and paired perfectly with my beer.

The service was excellent — friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. Staff members clearly take pride in making sure guests have a great experience.

Between the excellent craft beer, tasty bites, and inviting patio space, Big Grove Brewing really nails the brewery experience. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to friends and family!

It’s March Madness and we have Drake (My Alma Mater—Let’s Go!) ISU and Iowa a part of the hype. A chill place to surround yourself with friendly neighbors to enjoy the wrap around sports screens is “The Big Grove.” The menu of delicious game food is top notch. The Tap -house Burger has flavors that scores “A Caitlin Three” on meat, bun and toppings as well as a blend of delicious flavors. Taylor the “bar master” is super efficient, skilled with his taps, and a good conversationalist of “Big Grove” trivia. The prices are reasonable, the inside table spacing is enormous, and the food is a slam dunk even if the back parking lot is somewhat challenging. Go grab a tap and a tap-house burger and relax in the customer friendly ambiance. The entire place is FIRE!

Last night a friend and I went to Big Grove so I could have some Climbing Kites and he could have a couple beers. Climbing Kites here are an incredible option for anyone who doesn’t drink alcohol and they are nutritionally just water, so health conscious too.

Both Hanna(h)s (not sure if they have an H at the end or not) were terrific and their Manager Melanie is very welcoming and friendly. The staff here is always amazing, the seating area is awesome and the bar is great too.

For anyone who does drink, or especially for people who do not drink but still want to go out with friends and have a “drink”, it’s a super awesome place. We bring playing cards to the booth every time too and they’re cool with it, so that’s kind of nice. That said, I like to think we keep ordering drinks and keep things moving a long at a decent pace but yeah, favorite bar in town

Food was ok. I didn’t get a photo of the pretzel but unfortunately it tasted like buttered bread and was missing the signature pretzel flavor. Further, the menu is fairly limited and the entrees we chose (Cubano and the Mac n cheese) were just ok. Won’t be coming back here again.

We had a good experience at Big grove. I wouldn’t say anything blew us away but everything was solid. The mock tails my wife and friend had were just okay they said. Our beers were good. My wife and I split the Philly which we thought was good. The garlic aioli was super lemony and didn’t taste like my buddies who also got it. The music outside was super loud for the vibe they ended turning it down later in our visit but it was hard for us to hear each other or the wait staff. Food came out fast! Would go again for a brew.

The first thing you’ll notice about this place is how beautiful it is. The design is flawless, melding an open-air, wispy feel with clean, industrial look. Whoever designed this place is brilliant! I’ve been here 3x since they opened over the summer. The first week they were open it was pretty crazy but somehow they got hot, delicious food out quickly. Drink service took a little longer but it wasn’t horrible. Great teamwork! Now that the hype has died down a little bit and it’s winter, I can judge it a little better. The food here is still amazing! Still delicious, still hot, still comes out quickly. I’ve gotten a different entree every time I’ve visited and have never been disappointed. My friends who are vegan and gluten-free also love the menu here! Drinks come a lot quicker now that there aren’t 1000 people swarming the place. The beer is tasty, obviously. Their cocktail specials are also really good! They have tons of tables inside for dining. Lots of seats around the bar. We brought our dogs with us over the summer and sat on the patio. The wait staff was always gracious enough to bring our pups water. I don’t usually visit a restaurant more than once but this is a recurring go-to in Des Moines. Highly recommend!
