I really hate to say this….. but I was disappointed. I got a medium BYO pizza w/ extra cheese & pepperoni & garlic sticks. The garlic sticks were cut in to really, really tiny pieces for some reason? Both items were pretty underwhelming in my opinion— they could’ve used a lot more flavor. The pictures make it look so good though! Bummer! (I ordered delivery)

I stayed the night at the bed and breakfast next door to this place and they were able to deliver right to my room. The pizza was excellent with a nice chew to the crust and the margarita was delicious and perfectly boozy! Definitely highly recommend checking this place out if you’re in the area.

Very disappointed. Stopped by and had a slice of cheese (was alright) but I also ordered a Tres Leches cake and it was very bad. It did not taste like a Tres Leches cake at all, and had the consistency and taste of a caramel candy (very tough and chewy, not cakey). Would not recommend.

We came here after a night drinking, and it was just what we needed. Staff were really friendly. They have some TVs and a bar. Would definitely come back.

First time in and had a horrible experience. Came in and ordered with someone. We waited and he got his 12” pizza after 25 minutes. I had ordered a 10” veggie pizza and fries right after. 10 minutes after he got his pizza, my fries came out. The server goes “hope you enjoy and yall got everything”. I did not get my pizza and mentioned it to him. He looked confused and puzzled. It was clear that it was forgotten. Another 10/15 minutes went by and my pizza finally came out. It looked strange but took a bite. When I tell you the dough was not cooked all the way, the veggies were all raw, and the cheese was warm at best. It was clear it was rushed after it was forgotten. At this point I was upset and more upset that they didn’t acknowledge the mess up and tried to cover it up with a rushed pile of raw veggies. I had to take the rest home and finish cooking it myself. Not a great first impression and probably won’t be back. I should also note that it wasn’t busy inside.

Take it from me, born and raised Brooklyn pizza snob. Sal’s is legit! Right ovens, perfect sauce to cheese ratio. Good ingredients. NO cornmeal. And just an all round wonderful place. This will be my go to when in Chicago.

The new recipe is SOOO good. I knew I had to try it asap as soon as it was announced they changed the crust and the sauce. The last recipe’s crust was not great and honestly kept me from wanting to frequent. However, Sal has listened to customer feedback, invested in a new recipe and honestly it is delicious. Will be back lots more!

I absolutely love this place. It’s welcoming, cozy, the employees are warm, and the pizza is delicious – they get this amazing crisp on the crust that I personally crave in a slice and have a hard time finding elsewhere. They offer a chicken mole flavor which I’ve never seen before and is soooo good. I try to visit about once a week but now that it’s getting colder I’ll probably visit more often, hot pizza good drinks on a cold day is a day well spent

We wanted a light snack before we went on a longer walk so we decided to try a Big Gay Sal’s Pizza.
I wouldn’t say her expectations were very high considering it was just a little place that sold pizza by the slice or whole pizzas along with a few other things. The pizza was all right and reasonably priced for what you get. We also tried the front fries which were surprisingly delicious and perfectly seasoned.
The service was a little slower which was a surprise since there was only one other person there when we went around the middle of the day. There’s a lot of competition in the area but to have that small of a crowd at lunch on a Saturday is a little concerning.
I don’t know if we would go again, especially considering I’m a vegetarian and there weren’t many options for me. But if I was looking for something on the cheaper side and just to get together with friends without any of the fanciness of another restaurant, I would potentially consider it. Like I said though, there are a lot of other options within walking distance in the neighborhood.
