One of my favorite spots for a quick, casual Chinese meal.

I tried their original Quincy location a few years ago and really liked it, but since Quincy Center is a bit out of the way for me, I hadn’t been back. Once they opened the Brookline location, though, I started coming pretty regularly.

Most of what I’ve tried here has been very solid. One thing I especially appreciate is how they handle the claypot rice. Here, they leave the sauce bottle on the table, which lets me play the waiting game. This allows that glorious layer of rice to scorch into a golden crust before I season it.

They’re also generous with the protein, and I rarely feel the need to order sides. The spare ribs and beef brisket claypots are my favorites. Here, they don’t trim the life out of the meat. The Beef brisket keeps the tendon intact for that sticky, gelatinous comfort that lean cuts just can’t match.

Claypot Café has long been the only player in this category around Boston, but I think Big Fun does it slightly better. The difference isn’t huge, but it’s enough to keep me coming back every month.

One of our favorite go-to spots for delicious, authentic clay pot rice and Cantonese dishes. My husband and I were really happy to hear this second location opened up. The restaurant is spacious, updated and the food continues to be excellent and delicious.

This location does not offer their signature rice rolls but their menu has more options for clay pot rice and entrees compared to the Quincy location. The portion sizes are generous so it is perfect for sharing or having leftovers. The Chinese and bacon claypot rice is one of my husband’s favorite dishes. Don’t forget a splash of their claypot sauce when it comes to your table hot. Their house chili oil is not too spicy and adds a nice kick to any of their dishes.

The owner is extremely friendly and remembered us from our previous visits. He made us feel right at home and we can’t wait to come again to try more of their dishes.

There is plenty of street parking and the restaurant is bigger with larger tables so good for groups and less wait.

We had been looking forward to trying this claypot rice place and were not disappointed. All the dishes were close to Hong Kong flavors.

The claypot rice dishes were quite well cooked. The bottoms were nice and crunchy, with the exception of one that was slightly overcooked and had a burnt taste. The beef claypot was tender but under seasoned. The Chinese sausage with eel had a lot of sausages and 5 slices of eel. It tasted very good along with the claypot sauce. The peapod stems dish was fine but needed more salt and garlic. The curry fishballs had a great curry flavor and good crunch. We didn’t like the lukewarm water they provided on the table and ordered hot tea instead.

The portions were unexpectedly large and none of us were able to finish the claypots. Overall, we were very happy with the food. The staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely come back to try more of the other dishes.

Frozen winter nights are the best nights to have claypot rice. We enjoyed our Big Fun Claypot dinner. I loved the fact you can mix and match Claypots. We had the Chinese sausage, bacon and duck Claypot. The highlight is at the base of the pot when the rice becomes crispy! We also had the salt and pepper squid. Niceee! Want to try the eel next time.

Very solid Cantonese food. Delicious claypot and the portions were generous! The staff was super friendly and made our experience even better. Loved all the dishes we tried. They don’t only serve claypot, they had a wide variety of different food. We got the spare rib claypot, salt & pepper shrimp, Kung Pao beef (which was one of our favs), pork soup dumplings, and chicken lo mein. Highly recommend if you want good Chinese food in the Brookline area

Oustanding Cantonese-style food. The flavors are so comforting and reminiscent of Hong Kong. The interior is modern yet cozy, and the workers are incredibly kind.

Party of 2 and visited on a Wednesday night. We ordered 3 things: Westlake Beef Soup, Beef Brisket and Radish Claypot, and the Seafood Tofu Claypot. Everything came out quickly and piping hot. Soothed our tummies on a cold Boston night.

If you pay with cash or Zelle, there is 10% off!

The clay pot rice has so much crunch and flavor! We got the salted fish meat patty one ($17.50), which had deep umami and highlighted the crispy rice. The wet fried beef rice noodles ($16) had a peppery sauce, along with a good amount of beef. And finally the stir fried bok choy ($16) were so garlicky and delicious. Definitely bring your appetite!

They don’t have steam fish, also the soups are not HK/ Guangdong style. Fish I ordered is pretty good. Claypot is ok, I like the swamp eel, but I don’t like the rice. Overall still good. Around 50 dollars without tips.

Tried this spot recently for their clay pot rice and was pleasantly surprised to find some newly launched dishes on the menu. They had Steamed Rice Rolls with Spareribs and Beef Brisket. I’ve had the cheung fun in Quincy before and really enjoyed it, so I was a bit disappointed that the Brookline location doesn’t offer their usual cheung fun. But these new rice roll dishes were a great alternative — flavorful, fresh, and definitely worth trying.
The food was delicious and satisfying. The service was warm and attentive, it honestly felt a bit like being back home, and I’ll definitely be returning!

Came here before 5pm, before the dinner crowd. Loved that there were so many great options for someone with allergies to wheat, nuts, seeds and dairy.
The team was really nice and patient. The clay pots came out nice and hot. If you’re new to this, do not grab the pot.
Everything tasted great. The rice was tasty, infused with the ingredients. The rice on the bottom and sides of the pot were nice and crispy. Came right off the pot with little effort. The must get salt and pepper chicken wings were delicious. The hot and sour soup was good. The beef brisket noodle soup, rice noodles and duck were all great.
This place gets busy during lunch and dinner. They do have the digital wait list; so it’s pretty convenient. Will be back to try the other dishes.
