Making a reservation online was seamless. I was initially intrigued by the advertised “$7 x 7” happy hour… which, unfortunately, does not exist. The only $7 item available was a pimento cheese dip that, frankly, was disgusting and didn’t measure up to the quality of any of the items on the regular menu. It might be time to retire that sign.
Now for the good news: everything else was fantastic.
The wings and burrata were a strong start- flavorful, well-executed, and a solid appetizer choice.
The pork chop was phenomenal. There’s a reason it’s the signature dish. It had depth, richness, and the kind of bold flavor that made you pause to admire its complexity and simplicity. Absolute standout.
The halibut and pappardelle were clean, well-prepared, and crowd-pleasing, though they didn’t deliver the same punch as the pork chop. I’d put the broccolini in that category as well. nicely done, but not the star of the show.
The salads, on the other hand, are destination-worthy. The chicory salad alone is enough to get me back to the Mission again and again. big, bold flavors with just the right balance. The tavern salad leaned heavily into pickle-forward territory, which I loved, but it may not be for everyone.
Dessert? Whew. The sticky date cake was hands-down the best dessert I’ve had in a long time and a clear winner over the pot de crème. No contest.
We also sampled a couple of N/A drinks, and each one was thoughtful and genuinely delicious- not an afterthought, which I always appreciate.
And for my fellow Star Trek fans: do not skip the bathroom. Trust me.
Huge thanks to the hardworking team at Big Finish Wine Tavern for making my bestie’s prego-40th celebration feel special. I can’t wait to see how the menu evolves. This place is such a bright spot in the SF dining scene.
The menu is small but has good variety. The space is also small but cozy and nicely decorated.
Will definitely be returning!
The staff is extraordinarily helpful + friendly and create a casual, social atmosphere you’d expect more from a dive bar than an upscale restaurant serving this calibre of food. (To be clear, this is a compliment!) It’s obvious how much passion everyone there has for the food and wine they serve, plus a high level of professionalism and knowledge that reveals decades of experience.
The price is another plus. For every one of the dishes I’ve tried, I’ve had worse versions at other restaurants that cost two or three times as much.
It took us too long to eat here after it opened, but after we did, we’ve been back 4 times in a month. Each time, I’ve sat next to people making repeat visits, which is surely a good sign for a restaurant that’s been open for less than a year. I just hope it doesn’t get too slammed and hard to get a table in the future!
The food? Outstanding across the board. The burger is absolutely killer—juicy, flavorful, and consistently spot-on. I’m also SO excited about the recent addition of fries, which are crispy and seasoned just right. Pair that with their side tavern salad (the house pickles in it are a genius touch), and you’ve got the perfect balanced meal.
Wings here are next-level. Easily the best I’ve had in the city—perfectly crispy on the outside and evenly sauced, with zero sogginess. They nail it every time. The pasta is another solid choice that never disappoints, and the seasonal risotto dish always brings something fresh and delicious to the table. If you’re really hungry, go for the half chicken—it’s hearty, crispy, and incredibly flavorful.
Beyond the food and drinks, the atmosphere is a huge part of what makes Big Finish so special. It’s warm, inviting, and never pretentious. Whether you’re sitting at the bar or grabbing a table with friends, it just feels like a place you want to hang out. The staff is awesome—super friendly, genuinely knowledgeable, and always up for a chat when they have a moment.
Big Finish is the kind of spot you should tell all your friends about. Can’t recommend it enough!
Our triple went last night, and we had a delightful time
The atmosphere is welcoming and warm. There are a few Star Trek touches in hidden places, which were fun to find
There is a shelf behind the bartender with a fascinating collection of items, ranging from a gold pineapple to action figures
The service was superb.
We loved the beet-cured salmon appetizer. It made me think of Russ and Daughters. Fantastic modern homage to the classic.
The Halibut served in mushroom sauce is simultaneously inventive and comforting. The steak was salted correctly, and the baked potato was fluffy. The burger was also delicious.
We had toffee cake for dessert, and it made me think of England.
We also loved how low the noise level was!
