This was a cool place, they offered plenty of seating both inside and out. They offered locally crafted beers from right next door which was cool. The staff were attentive and super friendly. The food was very good, the smoked meats were perfectly tender and juicy. I think they could have used a little more salt / seasoning but that’s just my opinion. I loved the burnt ends and brisket combo we had. As for the sides they were ok in comparison to the main dishes we ate. But wouldn’t stop me from revisiting by any means. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth the stop.

As we were walked into the place, we passed two outgoing to-go orders – a good sign. Next thing I spotted was rolls of paper towels at every table, another good sign in my book. The aromas in this place were amazing. Open seating, live music and a patient waitress who answered all of our questions. Our wait for our orders wasn’t long as we enjoyed the live music.
Every serving was delicious! Savory, moist and not overly spiced. I’ve had BBQ where everything was slathered with a sauce where all you could taste was the sauce. Not here! Big Fatty’s pulled pork tasted first and foremost like a delicious pork roast. The burnt ends were sublime and fell apart with zero effort. The brisket was so tender it would’ve come apart with a dessert spoon. Sumptuous! Every portion was very generous and we all had to utilize take away boxes when we were finished (ensuring another yum meal later on!)
In the end, every offering was exceptionally tasty, maybe the best ever? I believe a return trip is in order just to make sure! Oh, the bourbon pecan pie for dessert added the perfect finishing touch to an amazing meal.
Thank you Big Fatty’s! We Love y’all!

Nice little local bbq spot. They had live music and a lot of customers so clearly it’s popular. I wasn’t a big fan of my food – the brisket was actually too fatty (like half the piece was just fat), the pork was cold, and I didn’t love any of the side dishes.

Who doesn’t love Big Fatty’s BBQ?! I’m trying to give it 4.5 stars but the app won’t let me. You can only eat like this – grand Texas BBQ style – in the Upper Valley in very few places. I know of 2 places – in total – but the other is only open 3 times per week. Big Fatty’s is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but open from 12-8 daily, otherwise.

Our Fatty’s Baked Beans were so good and even more delicious than I remembered them to be! These were more sweet and perhaps fancied-up for autumn because they had a lovely, surprising and delicious flavor of fall apples. If you took a vat of mulling spices and seasoned the mix of beans in this, and then boiled them in it, I’m guessing they might taste similar to these. What a fabulous surprise, and an innovative recipe. These Vermont chefs aren’t messing around, folks! 🙂

We enjoyed the Smoked and Sliced Kielbasa with Ryan’s barbecue maple mustard sauce as one of two appetizers. Loved the kielbasa, especially the ones which were darker and crispier. The maple mustard sauce was sweet and delicious, though the maple flavor was more subtle. We also ordered the hush puppies with honey. These are the most sturdy, cornmeal-like hush puppies I’ve had. Dipping them in honey is good. Butter on them would be even better.

The Bottle of Homemade BBQ Sauce at every table totally rocks here! I never have found a barbecue sauce that I was really enamoured with until now. How do you get all of the right notes of whiskey sweet, smoky thick and umami presence all in one sauce? Come to Momma!

I ordered the smoked bbq 1/4 Chicken & 8oz. Texas Beef Brisket platter. The brisket literally falls apart when you take a bite. The chicken was juicy and fine, seared well. The cole slaw is traditional, yet substantial in texture and flavor. I look forward to the bbq here.

For sides, we enjoyed a large order of seasoned Fatty Fries. They are perfect. The Homemade Cabot Mac & Cheese is rich, sharp and buttery. Very good. Were the tiny red ingredients smoked cherries or cranberries in our cornbread? The server didn’t know and the manager was not available at that time, but I will update this review if I find out. Gorgeous presentation. Big, substantial lovely slabs of cornbread with whole, mildly chewy kernels of corn sprinkled throughout.

The pecan pie was lovely on my last visit and this time, again, even more so. I learned a lesson with this pecan pie which is how to judge other pecan pies. Because this one became my new standard for the best I’ve had. Why? It’s the way Big Fatty’s roasts or smokes the pecans: the texture and flavor are perfect! And the filling is not one big layering of overly-sweet glop. Instead, it’s a medium-sized layering of sweet and boiled, chopped pecans and other ingredients (typically dark brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, granulated sugar, eggs and vanilla extract). Maybe they use maple syrup and whiskey extract, here, instead. And then the crust: it’s not cakey like the kind that gets kind of stuck in your mouth to chew. It’s so good: light and flakey in texture, browned and high on the shortening end. All of the ingredients in the Big Fatty’s pecan pie come together for fabulousness. And, I’m here to tell you, it’s good for breakfast. Seriously, not too sweet with morning coffee plus added protein from the pecans.

The strawberry cheesecake was creamy and good. The strawberries are actually inside of the cheesecake. That was a first!

Don’t miss Big Fatty’s Facebook and Instagram posts for specials and updates, ie smoked prime rib on Thursday nights.

Went for the first time on our motorcycles from Manchester NH. Got there as soon as it opened. We were kindly greeted and served right away. Food was awesome and some of the best prices I have seen in a long time for great BBQ. Place is awesome all around!

Stumbled upon Big Fattys BBQ and couldn’t have been happier. Had live music Friday night so we got there just as that was starting. Enjoyed some amazing ribs, brisket and chicken. Wasn’t much leftover when we were done!

Happy to find such a charming place by a chance drive by! Although it was a Sunday night, it still had the vibe of a daytime backyard BBQ. Plenty of food to choose from, very good beer selection, service was professional and like a good friend at the same time. Knowing the ribs are cooked ahead of time, they were pretty well preserved to finish per order. Not dry & plenty of char. I would definitely put the chicken wings in my top tier as they were meaty, juicy and had the perfect crisp w/o the need for breading. St Louis sauce was the hostess’s pick and it was delicious.

Went there for a quick bite and had the sliders and famous mac and cheese. The pork and chicken sliders were pretty good. But, the brisket slider was very dry. The mac and cheese was okay when it came out hot, but as it cooled it became coagulated and unappetizing.

Great ribs, generous serving. Limited selection of sides. Great selection of Vermont beers including Hill Farmstead.
Friendly, polite service. Service was quick which was what we needed as we were traveling. Typical BBQ joint decor with large pine tables and paper towels for napkins.

Popped in late as it was the only place we could find open. It was pretty busy, but we were seated right away. Just had Mac and cheese and sliders. All was tasty, decently priced. Service was ok, a little slow, but friendly. Might not go out of my way, but worth a stop.
