Six of us went here for lunch. Had a great server who was friendly and really attentive.
Food was well prepared and fresh. The southwest salad and house dressing for it was really good.
The people who got a Rubin said it was very good.
Probably better to park in back rather than in front and come in the rear entrance. that’s where you get seated from anyway.
Nice outdoor seat area and back if the weather is nice.
At the very back of the back parking lot, you can see the big chief looking at you through the fence.

I can not stop talking about how great the food and service was. The staff were so kind and attentive. The decor gives the small town esthetic that i adore so much. Between this restaurant and the surrounding nature trails, i was ready to buy a house in the area and we aren’t even in the market!

This is one of the few original route 66 restaurants that is still in business today! We saw them in. A route 66 documentary and had to see it for ourselves. Food is honestly, large portions, and large variety. Service was fast and friendly. Price was good. There’s even a route 66 state park nearby.

Great atmosphere, great service, good food! I will definitely go back again, as there were lots of things on the menu that I wanted to try. It was very busy, but our server was still super friendly and helpful. We even visited the speakeasy on the rooftop and it was very retro and fun.

Do not let the exterior deceive you! Clean and nice inside. Food was very good! The main entrance is through the patio on the back, but if you use the front door you just walk through to the host station on the other side. Not too far from Six Flags so when we got rained out, we went there for lunch and to escape the rain.

We went on a Thursday evening it had a small crowd in the open dining room. We sat in the bar area. It was clean and spacious how it was very poorly lit and kinda cold. We order pulled pork sandwich with no onion straws. It was served with onion straws so we needed to send that back. My Mac and cheese arrived cold and the cole slaw was sour. I sent the Mac and cheese back and when it was brought back it clearly had just been microwaved. The catfish was mushy but looked promising. My daughter order chicken pot pie and it was not very good. It was the consistency of cream checking soup with canned chicken and canned veggies with a fluffy dough ontop. We oder cokes and wete served diet coke. It was a bit of an experience that I would not venture to try again. Our bill was $70 for 3 and we all left hungry because overall the meal was not good.

Among our top picks for fish on Friday! Delicious cod, hushpuppies, coleslaw, fries/chips. Very generous portions. Top-notch servers. The cool vibe and history of Big Chief is a bonus. Highly recommend!

Moving my reviews over from Yelp. I’ve been back probably a dozen times since this was first posted on 10/24/17:
This place is not somewhere you land by accident. Nope. They are so far off the beaten path that coming here is a deliberate action.
In our case, we had an event about a mile back towards civilization that ran quite a bit longer than expected so we found this place. Glad we did!
They are on the National Register of Historic Places. I saw that sign as we were walking out after a very filling (but not at all gourmet) meal. I turned to the wife and told her they need to put them on the national register of outstanding turkey sandwiches. Wowsa was that a turkey sandwich! They smoke the turkey breast in-house and seem to have a decent enough pitmaster that the turkey comes out perfect. The bird was tender, juicy, flavorful and smoky. They toss some more flavor on top in the form of the aioli and some crispy bacon too. Add the lettuce, tomato and a nice slide of cheddar (not a fan of swiss) between the bread and then griddle it until golden brown, but not greasy, and that’s their turkey club sandwich.
My sandwich came with a side of made-to-order mac & cheese that I got for the wife because I personally am not a fan. I think she liked it quite a bit because it was 100% gone before she took a bite of anything else.
There were other things on the menu that I wanted to try. No doubt about it – we will be back…

We have been here many times before during the week for lunch. That was pretty good but we went there on Saturday at around 2:30. My $15 burger & fries were good. Husband’s chicken sandwich was good but on toast? He didn’t like the potato salad and there wasn’t much of it for $15. I ordered an old fashioned. It was served in a small glass absolutely filled with ice and I’m pretty sure it was a shot of bourbon with a cherry for $9. Just disappointing.

Smoked meatloaf was novel and tasty. Greanbeans were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My wife says the burger is one of the best around. Environs are cool given the history. We did not check out the speakeasy behind the phone booth. Great service.
