Tried Big Chicken and got the 5 tenders combo with fries, two sauces, and a regular fountain drink — total came to $19.06. The tenders were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and tasted fresh. The sauces added a lot of variety, and it didn’t feel like basic fast-food chicken.
Fries were solid and the portion size felt fair overall. The restaurant itself was clean, modern, and had a relaxed atmosphere, which made it a nice place to sit down and eat instead of just grabbing food and leaving.
Price is a little higher and drinks are a bit small compared to typical fast food, but the quality and experience make it feel more like fast-casual. Definitely worth trying if you’re in State College and want something different from the usual fast food environment overall 4/5

I understand that they just opened, but they’ll be closed in five or take 5 months. They don’t accept their own gift cards and the food is astonishingly mid tier. It’s like option C when there’s a Canes right down the road. It’s really over priced, decorated like they’re not ready to stay long term and they’re not really ready for operation yet. Save your time and eat at any other place with chicken. It’ll be cheaper, taste better, and they’ll be there in a few months when you want to go back.

Despite what people say it’s small. It’s hard to get around people but it’s totally worth it. They were out of Mac and it was a shame but I made do and it was awesome. The fries don’t get soggy and the buns are big and soft. Absolute game changer in the chicken space in town and honestly for the price range there’s nothing like it here. Every star. I hope Big Chicken stays around.

I was really looking forward to this place, and I rarely write reviews these days, but I need to warn you. The chicken was dry and flavorless. Could have been redeemed by the sauce, but the “Shaq attack” chicken I ordered which was supposed to have bbq sauce had none.
The other cup of sauce I was given with my order was half full.
My drink was fine, but my friend asked for a water and was given a tiny cup and made to use the water fountain, which one week in, does not have enough water pressure to fill the cup of water.
If you want good Nashville hot chicken walk a few more blocks down, we have an authentic Nashville chicken small business here already that cook on demand instead of batching/reheating chicken
The silver lining was the staff. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and generally just fine to interact with.
I can’t recommend you go here.

I was excited to try this place….it was fine, a bit of a letdown.
The sandwich was big, but the chicken was a bit dry. The fries were okay, though they could have been crispier.
The meal didn’t include a drink, and nobody let me know that beforehand. I had to place a separate order, which was a bit obnoxios. At a place like this, a drink being included is the expectation.
I probably won’t be back.

Food is incredibly mid. Everything tased the exact same. Just tasted like fried nothing. No flavor. Service was okay, they were busy. Vibe was cool with the music but don’t want to go back.

Shaq was standing outside and offered to pay for my food if I went in. I later found out that was just some random homeless man, but at least he paid for my food!

I was gifted a gift card, so I had decided to check it out. After I had ordered they fumbled around for several minutes trying to get my gift card to work. The person who I can only assume was the manager let me know that they did not accept gift cards yet. While I understand there might be issues after opening, not accepting gift cards would seem like a pretty big issue. By the time they had told me this the food was already made, and I had to make the reluctant decision to just pay and hopefully resolve the situation. The food came out as soon as we had sat down, but it was fairly cold. The chicken sandwich was fine, all of the food was serviceable. It took several more minutes to receive the milkshakes we had ordered. It was all fairly plain and could have gone much farther if they had more sauce. There was no condiment station, so I had to go up and ask for more ketchup. This was fine since I had never received my drink. The milkshake was very good. If I had to go back that would be the one thing I would look forward to. I did not come here desiring a bad experience. I do not want to pick on people just trying to do an honest days work, but the service was just abysmal. I don’t understand how a chain restaurant could not accept gift cards for said chain. It seems so grievous a fault that I am surprised they were ever able to open in the first place. State College is a place that is filled with restaurants that give good fast service. Raising Caines is right down the road in a much more convenient part of downtown. They’re service is always excellent even when they are packed to the brim with customers. We were the only people in the restaurant for most of our meal. If they had been able to accept the gift card my review would not be nearly as negative, but it just seems like such a bizarre thing. The gift card cannot be refunded. I have to go back if I don’t want the money to go to waste. I only hope that by the time I decide to return they aren’t closed down. If I did not have to return I wouldn’t. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I am normally not one to complain about restaurant service, but it gets to a point where it is simply ridiculous. I can only hope that they turn this around.
The atmosphere was nothing special, the stereotypical new-age corporate slogans dawn every inch of the place. This is not always a bad thing but the whole restaurant felt dead. During most of the meal the manager was on the phone in the dining area yelling over the phone to someone about staffing and employees. This was the only ambience we had to drown out the otherwise silent restaurant. None of the Tv’s were on. It just felt sloppy and rushed, and not sloppy in the charming way. Sloppy in the way that you knew very little care if any went in to the design of the interior.
Overall, I would not recommend it. It is not as bad as the State College IHOP was, but it was still bad. In a town with a lot of options for fast food chicken, Including a Canes, I would never decide to go here again.

Stopped by Big Chicken in State College and it was absolutely worth it. The chicken was crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. Portions are generous, fries came out hot, and everything tasted fresh.
Great comfort food spot — I’ll definitely be back.
