I wanted to thoroughly enjoy this restaurant when I brought my young boys here because of it’s history, nostalgia, and memories that I had of this chain as a child…but like many great chains of the past, this one too has lost it’s way. Initially I asked if we could sit near a window but the waitress declined to do so as that side of the restaurant was already cleaned for closure eventhough it was only 3:00 p.m. Our waitress was kind and patient with our boys and throughout our meal. The salad bar was old. The garbanzo beans were granular in texture, the olives were dried out, the clam chowder tasted off and was separating. My burger Initially tasted good but the bun literally turned into thin dough as I ate it. The fries were good, but it was a very small serving. My boys ate the food and had fun. We had pie for dessert and they tasted good, but there were only six pies to choose from in the two display cases and they looked like they were melting. The employees talked loudly gathered up at the front throughout our meal, so I heard a lot of opinions and gossip. The facility clearly needs some upgrades as it feels a little dark and old. BTW, we were the only customers in the entire restaurant and two families came in mid meal and were seated next to us. We still took photos and had some fun but it’s too bad seeing the decline of this restaurant chain.

I’ve always loved going to big boy especially the one in Mason. It’s been a while since I’ve been to this one here in Charlotte, but when I walked in, it literally looked like nobody cared of how the restaurant looks broken concrete by the bathroom dust everywhere a ceiling fan that has stuff chipping off of it broken seats with duct tape tapes on them bugs and lights hardly any of the lights working. It definitely seems like people are just there just to make money and that’s about it. I don’t know if the owner has been in at all, but he definitely needs to make a visit.

The salad bar was dreadful. Half of the food looks like it was plastic because it had not been freshened up in what looked to be at least eight hours. There were no bowls for the soup. I had to ask someone in the restaurant. Instead of putting more bowls at the soup station, she gave me one. My server was nice but didn’t bring water, didn’t bring silverware, never cleared my plates. A guy next to me was complaining about his order being wrong. Who I think might be the cook, came out and argued with him. This is the example of absolutely incompetent ownership and management. I had problems six months ago but decided to try it again. I gave two stars because the waitress was nice. It’s not her fault that she was poorly trained. I will avoid this Restaurant in the future.

Occasionally I order my childhood favorite, the big boy burger and slaw to go. The wait staff has always been kind and professional. However my last take out order in which I ordered extra sauce on the burger. Instead of extra sauce my burger had a pathetic tiny wipe of sauce. Clearly an intended slight. Every time I pick up my take at the restaurant it is almost completely empty. Why would they intentionally drive a customer away. I have always been polite and friendly. Losing a customer for something petty seems stupid. But I got the message. I’m gone.

Amazing old school diner atmosphere, they haven’t changed a thing, love it!

Service was wonderful, she should be the employee of the year.

Food is the same as I always remember. I love the super big boy and this time better than expected, it was juicy and flavorful. The slim Jim is my wife’s favorite, however the bun was overcooked and dry, but everything else in it was perfect.

This review is not for the waitress, she was great, this review is on behalf of the cook in the back tonight. We ordered food with no gravy and no mushrooms, he disregarded the ticket and put it on there anyway. The waitress handed him the sandwich that had mushrooms on it and he proceeded to pick them out by hand, when told I was allergic, he threw the plate of food like a child throwing a tantrum. The waitress kept apologizing and I told her she did not need to apologize for his negligence. FIRE that cook immediately, he is dragging this buisness down. We typically like Big Boys, unfortunately we will have to find another location to enjoy.

The Big Boy legacy has never recouped it’s glory but thank goodness for great management and service from the leader of Big Boy in Charlotte. She was quick to make sure our food was hot and fresh . During her table visit she smiled and we felt welcomed.
The entire experience was fantastic thanks to the General Manager ( I think she was the manager as hard as she was working) Natasha. She made my family feel like it was a marvelous experience!! We will give BIG BOY A chance again thanks to Natasha!

Very Disappointed – Will Not Return

I recently visited the Big Boy in Charlotte, MI and had a very unpleasant experience. The restaurant was extremely messy, and the salad bar was dirty and did not look safe to eat from. There appeared to be a lot of cross-contamination between the food items, which is a serious health concern.

I also ordered the broccoli soup, but it was spoiled and completely inedible. When I mentioned this to the cashier, she didn’t apologize or even offer to take it off the bill, which I found very unprofessional.

On top of that, I ordered four adult meals but wanted an item from the kids’ menu (Bosco sticks). A different waitress came back to tell me I couldn’t order a kids’ meal because I didn’t have a child with me. Then she said the manager would “allow” me to have the $6.99 kids’ meal for $8.99 just because I didn’t have kids with me. That made absolutely no sense and felt like I was being taken advantage of.

Overall, the restaurant was not clean, the food quality was poor, and the customer service was lacking. If the dining area looks this bad, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. I will not be returning.

For the slowest hour of the day, the food was fresh and the service was quick and attentive. I had a good sit-down meal for a good price in less that fifteen minutes. However, right at the end of my meal, the manager — whose name I’ve learned is Kent — completely soured my day.

He came out in front of good and everyone and began to insinuate that they had been lazy and that they should clean. Instead of respectfully asking them to find time to finish their cleaning tasks, he acted as though they werent planning on doing them when clearly the two employees on shift were working very hard to keep the tables turning and drinks coming. When one of them responded to his overt and frankly crude demands, he responded with sarcasm. There was obvious tension. I have been a manager and it’s certainly never a good idea to criticize your coworkwers for something they haven’t even done wrong, God forbid in front of an audience. HOW EMBARASSING! I’d be pissed, but she handled it well and put herself to work because what else can you do? He complained out loud that she was “making a scene in front of customers” when he was the instigator and was hostile from the jump.

Sad state of affairs. Tip these ladies well, and give Kent the middle finger for me if you see him. Can’t miss him, you’ll probably hear him coming. Left a complaint in the corporate mailbox. I encourage you to do the same if you see him acting up. Hold your bosses accountable!

In solidarity,
A patron.
