Update: I have been going to Big Boy since I was a kid. The last time I was here it definitely needed a remodel. That has happened and the place looks great. A complete 180. It looks similar to a 1950s diner. I have gone here a couple of times since the remodel and I have had good service each time. They seat us immediately upon arrival and the waitress gets to us pretty quickly. My favorite will always be the big boy, but the dolly chicken sandwich is very good also. They have a large menu selection, so there’s something for everyone. I will be back.
**Update**
The place has been updated and it looks awesome. The food and service are still awesome.
The host was less than presentable and like the entire staff looked as though they all had woken up from a party. We received 1 coffee in 30 minutes. It tasted like sand and then the host removed our menus to which we could no longer refer to when we ordered with another waitress.
Every server was irritated hungover and on their phones. When the service got busy they seemed to work slower. My wife and I were about to leave after noticing the food drying out in the window with no hope of anyone delivering it. We persevered respectfully until my wife noticed her pancake was crinkled and covered in grissle from the flat top. This was hands down the worst dining experience we have endured in years and I honestly feel there is no excuse. Diner food is easy but all food service requires urgency, respect, passion, and standards.
In 1969 I worked down town cleveland in the flats at a fiber glass shop .We made the Big Boy Statues .We also made the Little Ceaser Pizza statues .
Service was great .
To begin with when we arrived there was no wait and only one family sitting in the back. We got our drinks and sat patiently for the server to take our order. About 15 minutes later our order was taken. A few more people came in too. They only had one server so she was doing her best to take care of people. The problem I to had specifically is a asked for hamburger with only lettuce, tomato, onion a me d pickle. I didn’t specify and condiments because everywhere else I have ever order from have them on the table. Our order comes out and looked questionable. I was brought out a cheeseburger when I specific said NO CHEESE . So they take it back and told the cooks it was supposed to have no cheese and that my fries were cold. They warned my fries and sent back a cheeseburger again. So I my sent it back and after another 10 minutes they come back with a fresh burger and fries. It was smothered in mayo this time. I didn’t ask for mayo and I wasn’t told it comes on it because I asked specifically for only lettuce tomato and onion. So I scraped off all the mayo and put a some ketchup and mustard to cover the taste of the mayo. I hadn’t eaten all day and was starving at this point so I didn’t want to send it back for a third time. Now I sitting at home with a horrible stomach ache. Maybe the mess ups was God’s way of saying “dont eat that”. There was another lady who I assume was the manager who did discount our bill for the troubles. I appreciate it but the kitchen staff needs to do better. The server was very apologetic and offered to take it off the bill but we already paid so it was too late.
I also have to point out that the pace isn’t very clean. The women’s bathroom was terrible and looked like they haven’t been cleaned in weeks.
All I all I will never go back to this location. Everyone was really nice but the could definitely use some help and a better kitchen staff.
