Simple traditional BBQ menu at an affordable price. The brisket burnt ends were fantastic! Cole slaw is a vinegar based slaw with peppers and no mayo, 2 thumbs up. Sauces are flavorful and the spicy has some kick but not to hot to hide the flavor of the food. Beans were just baked beans, nothing fancy, would be much better if they were a mixture of different types of beans with some of that famous pulled pork mixed in and smoked. $13.50 for a dinner platter and a beer is pretty reasonable.

BBQ was good. I had a half rack platter. The ribs were as expected. It came with two sides. Sides were Ok. Macaroni and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes. I think if they put a little more effort into the sides they could be better. Although I have always had excellent food at the west Salem location I did not have the same at the downtown location.

My girlfriend and I ate here several weeks ago and we will never return, for the food. The brisket could not get any dryer and the sides were bland. It tasted like everything was put in a microwave just before it had gotten to our table. For what you get and typical BBQ difficulty I’d say this place is average on price.

The only reason why I gave it two stars is because the staff was awesome and super friendly. The environment is also perfect for the area you’re in.

I’ve always ordered the pulled pork sandwich. When this place opened it was fantastic. Then they changed the awesome wheat buns to smaller white. More recently they shrunk the corn bread muffins by about half. Meanwhile the price has stayed the same. I used to barely be able to finish a meal from this place and now I do so without any problem.

First let me say that the food was good. Lots of people rave about it and I don’t have anything bad to say about it. What I don’t like though, is paying full service restaurant prices for a burger stand experience. Also, since I neither live or work downtown I drive to get there. Parking is very inconvenient downtown relative to most any other destination.

If it was the only option around for tasty barbecue I would recommend it for that. But it isn’t. I think Famous Dave’s BBQ is about 90% as good, costs similar, you get real silverware and dishes, and are actually waited on! Plus parking is convenient there.

I guess if Bigboar either increased their level of service or reduced their cost to what is appropriate, I would be willing to put up with the parking on occasion. But no, I’m not going to eat and drink from plastic & paper for $20 and up.

When I first discovered Big Boar, I thought it was pretty great. I loved that they were local, because small business is the best business. My fiancé and I originally booked them for our wedding, but I heard some terrible things about treatment of staff from former employees, and that just isn’t okay to me. I received an e-mail from their catering coordinator, and she wasn’t able to confirm payment, so I had to send her my copy of the receipt. We ended up canceling because there was no price lock at the time of booking, and their prices went up significantly. The quality and portion sizes have decreased significantly in the restaurant. It’s obvious that customer satisfaction is not at the top of their list. As long as you hand over money, they are happy. Their pulled pork is very tasty, but its not worth all the BS the company tosses around.

One of my favorite restaurants is Big Boar we began eating here a year and a half ago back and I have loved it since the first bite! I always order the 1/2 chicken platter with their mashed potatoes and mac and cheese mmmm. There sauces are also very good. They vary from sweet to spicy/hot. The restaurant is always very clean and staff are helpful and polite. They just started delivery service and we ordered tonight. The food came within 30 minutes and was hot 10/10 from me!!

Don’t waste your money here! Ordered brisket/pork platter for $17 – both meats together weighed only 10oz, gave us cornbread which we didn’t order as side, forgot other side. No sauce. Big Boar potato had barely 2 small spoonfuls of mushy pork on it for $6. Burnt ends were ok, but again teeny portion for $11. Bake beans tasted out of a can with bbq season and onion flavor added which made them worse. Tried to contact management privately but they haven’t responded yet so I’m sharing our bad experience – won’t go back.

A big disappointment. The cashier and some of the staff were a bit rude and the customer service was disorganized. A few other small things, such as floors so sticky that it feels as if they hadn’t been mopped in weeks, the soda machine was extremely touchy and almost always caused overfills, not to mention some of the sodas were flat, and finally the graphic design was abysmal. The real deal breaker was the actual food. The barbecue was actually slightly above average but the problem was the side I was supposed to have. My side was “Texas toast” but it was just an ordinary slice of bread. Once again, a disappointment. Better off going to one of the many other barbecues around town.

Excellent pulled pork baked potato. My husband had the ribs and potato salad. Both of those were awesome ; salad not too heavy in mayo and great flavor, ribs slid off the bone with nice Smokey flavor. Heard the corn muffin was “too live for “! We’ll come back.
