This is your no-frills, family-owned restaurant that has good service and great food. Pizza is thin crust. Coke products. Clean place but not over the top decor or anything like that, which is charming and keeps locals coming back for decades!

We ordered 2 small pizzas. The Grinder and The Meat Lover’s. Both served hot and delicious. The Grinder was a perfect play on the sandwich. Was our first visit will be back to sample other things on the menu.

Very horrible food service everything we waited over an hour for our food just for it to be undercooked and disgusting will not be coming back here at all. Not just that they lost our ticket as well it was just an awful experience. It has definitely gone down hill since different ownership. Very disappointing. Don’t waist your money here!!!!!

Never heard of this place before. Just moved to the area and had spent 3 days packing and unpacking. Needed to eat. This place blew my mind. The Italian Egg rolls were absolutely fabulous. Pretty sure it’s their grinder meat used in the egg rolls. Absolutely delicious. The kids got grilled cheese and French fries. The fries are hand sliced real potatoes instead of packaged frozen stuff. Perfectly salted as well. Fresh foods are always the best. The wife and I got a (meat lovers) medium pizza for $20. Again, fresh ingredients and tasted amazing. Worth the price in every way. I will be returning for more suppers in the future. Best thing, not too far from the house.

Very quiet (no background music on a Saturday lunch hour) but I went there for takeout. They have a separate area for takeout. Worker was very friendly and efficient.
Italian egg rolls indeed were very good but I’m glad my salad was served with sour cream, as the Italian sausage egg rolls were *slightly spicy.
The base of the Grinder salad was not special.
I would enjoy an egg roll salad!

Great Service! The wait staff was more than helpful and engaging. Food was good. Had the Angry Meatball sandwich special. Spicy, I like it! Fry’s were fresh and enjoyable! Also ordered a veggie pizza. Good, but would preferred more sauce. I’ll be back!

The fried potatoes were delicious. The Chicago Italian Beef sandwich had good bread but the meat tasted old and instead of sweet peppers, they put jalapenos on it and I think they dropped some extra juice in there. Not what I was expecting, definitely not what I wanted and I can’t eat it, neither can my boyfriend. I won’t be going back. Since when did Italian and jalapenos merge in a sandwich? Someone needs to let them know old meat has a distinct taste. Anyone who likes beef will know it’s old the minute they bite into it. Ruined lunch. Now I have to cook. Thanks a lot.

This place used to be the best they don’t make anything right anymore and the proportions are so small and the prices went up little to no fries

East side staple and has been there as long as I can remember.

I would call it bar food plus. The pizza must be good because most of my friends ordered that. One had pasta and complimented the waiter on it. Chef salad is big and tasty if you’re behaving. You can also get a Grinder salad which is also really good.

Laid back and has plenty of room for our sometimes large group and it’s not really a bar. It is, but it feels more like a restaurant. There are booths and large tables.

Note if you have a group larger than 10 I think an extra automatic tip kicks in. Be sure to ask.

One of my favorite places when I’m in Des Moines! I wish they hadn’t remodeled though- it was perfectly cute and retro before. The grey everywhere now where it used to be warm wood and the wall mural being gone really makes me sad. Plus I miss the game room with the pool table and arcade. BUT. The food is delicious and everybody is so nice! You will definitely get your money’s worth here. Never been disappointed. The pizza is phenomenal!
