Samah I.
Beyond Soul was BEYOND PERFECT. All food is zabiha halal, flavorful to the max, soft, tender and juicyyyyyy and the owner is super sweet. The spot is inside a supermarket and there is one large table to enjoy your meal albeit a bit low but hey the more hole in the wall a place, the better the food and the food was indeed mindblowingly good. The BBQ ribs were cut up into pieces which made it so easy to consume and the meat was tender and soft. This was a chunky cow thank god because there was plenty of meat on the bone. I usually hate fat and always take it off but I ate it ALL because it was all just too delicious. It was melt in your mouth and I didn’t mind its presence one bit. The BBQ sauce was actually perfect, not too barbecuey and not too sweet. Excellent. Excellent. This Mac and cheese was one of my favorites amongst the plethora of soul food spots I’ve visited in the past and the Rasta pasta was SPICYYYYY and I LOVED IT. Best Rasta pasta I’ve had! Got it with some jerk chicken and it was a flavor overload. Chicken was juicy and there was a generous helping over it overtop. The potato salad was a texture I had never seen before, almost puréed which was so intriguing. Even the parmesan fries were killer. Fantastic flavor on everything. I loved how thoughtfully everything was packaged. To prevent any spillage of my potato salad into my Mac or my ribs, there was a piece of parchment paper placed atop and every container was wrapped with plastic wrap to keep it closed. And as I mentioned before my ribs were cut off for easy eating so the extra little step was absolutely noted and appreciated. Open in NYC!!!! Until then I’ll be dreaming about the day I can return.

I have ordered from this restaurant at least 20 times. I don’t want to say it is expensive but it’s definitely five star. I feel as though if you want good food, then you have to be willing to pay for it. But I also ordered through DoorDash, and those fees are over the top. However, I’ve never not been satisfied. I have three kids and two of them are picky eaters. However, everything we’ve ate from here has been amazing thus far. I recommend the lamb chops the yams, the mac & cheese, the greens and the cabbage. Even the cornbread was good. Oh honestly, I did not like the peach cobbler. But that’s because I also bake. Lol the turkey chops with the smothered gravy was top-tier!! I come from a family of cooks and it’s very hard for me to find decent food in New Jersey or Essex County. But this place hit the spot every single time. The oxtail and the Rasta pasta was BOMB!! I don’t even have pictures because every time my food came we dug right in. Sorry!

I’m from New York so moving out to Jersey 4years ago I have never been able to find a good soul food place came across this gem from Instagram raving about it and baybeeee NOT ONE LIE HAS BEEN TOLD. My go to is the fried fish which is well SEASONED, Mac n Cheese, yams and their fried chicken. Pricing is reasonable and they have fish deal Fridays. They been keeping me broke this week due to my laziness but it’s all worth it… they will be catering a few things for me during the holidays….

Came in with a party of 14 right before closing and they still welcomed us with nothing but kindness. The food was amazing, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. What stood out even more was the customer service. The owner was incredibly kind, checked on us personally, and genuinely thanked us for choosing to eat there. You could tell they truly appreciate their customers and take pride in what they do. It meant even more knowing this is a Black owned business that deserves support. If you’re looking for great food, real hospitality, and a place that values its community, Beyond Soul is it. I’ll definitely be back.

It was okay, it is unique. They tried and I can tell so I appreciate that. But it was really salty. I think what they do when they warm up the food again is they re-salt it and it’s not necessary. The original salt is still there. Maybe they aren’t at any rate it’s salty.

The area it is in has a very awkward parking and it’s busy, and it’s a lot of delivery guys (uber eats type people) and they are so aggressive about getting their orders out, I left feeling like I was a driver too!

Also this is one of those ghost kitchen things so there is nowhere to sit. It’s interesting.

The guy at the window was nice enough.

The food:
Cabbage had a different taste I can’t put my finger on it, but it was good!
Rice – average, definitely meant to accompany a meat/sauce.
Beans- great, smoky spicy flavor. If I was going to a party I would bring these beans.
Garlic broccoli – as expected, don’t suggest
Greens – ok, definitely not bad, but no wow factor, again as expected, a little too salty for me
Mac n cheese was good, also just too salty
Potato salad had a lot goin on a lot of mashed potato, had some sweetness but some heat too it was kind of a lot to grasp.

The drink was pretty good, I love the packaging. It’s reusable.

No hot sauce, no plates but they did include utensils. I don’t think I have a reason to go again, but I’m not mad I went. I think my food was ready in about 10 min and it was packaged well too.

And the prices are different online than in person so be careful.

Not edible ate all. I’m not mad because it was my first time trying them. No, I am mad. On how you give ppl burnt food that you can’t even chew.
Chicken was good.

Delicious meal! We ordered via Door dash which is the only option besides calling in. When you call, you have to order at least $30 worth of food via Venmo or Zelle so Doordash may be the better option. Was easy to pick up from the locker. Good was fresh and tasty. Fries tasted like they were marinated in butter and were so delicious. The buffalo honey lemon pepper sauce is legit. No indoor seating fyi just pick up

Wow, honestly the best soul food I’ve had in a while after moving to another state. The taste was phenomenal, the chicken was cooked and seasoned to perfection. You can tell that this was really made with love. When I pay a visit back to my hometown I’m definitely stopping by.

10/6 @ 1:30pm.
