I had the chicken fried steak. Very good. I would say it’s a perfectly executed classic chicken fried steak. No frills or gimmicks, just exactly what you expect and exactly what you want. Even better since they use beef tallow for frying. The green beans were very unique and good as well. I didn’t try the pie this time, but it looked really good in the case.

We stopped in on oyr way home from Houston thinking a nonchain cafe would be fun. I had the Friday special of chicken and dumplings with a side of roasted vegetables. It was homemade with a classic taste. My dining partner had a cheeseburger. You really can’t go wrong with that. We took a piece of pie to go and found it not to be worth the price paid. Had to wait a bit for the check, so I finally went to the register to ask for it.

Stopped in for lunch on our way to Houston. Saw the sign on the side of the road so decided to try it. It is a quaint little place that looks to be an old house turned into a restaurant.
We were seated within 5 minutes of walking in the door right around noon.
They had a special for Fried Green Tomatoes so of course we had to try them. This was my first time tasting them so I have nothing to compare it against. They were OK. Just didn’t know what to expect.
I told our waitress that it was our first time visiting and asked her what she thought was good. She recommended the chicken and avacado tacos – which is what I ordered. I thought they might have more flavor with some sort of sauce or ranch added in.
My husband ordered a bacon burger. He said at least three separate times how good the burger was – he never says that! So I’m guessing it was pretty tasty!
We looked at the pies and almost got a piece to go but decided against it. They have many flavors to choose from, some I have never heard of before. Every other table around us ordered a piece of pie to go so they must be good pies!!

The Chicken Fried Steak was just okay, especially for $18.50. The breading was too crunchy (think hard) and the meat was thin and oddly flavored. The meatloaf was very good. The wild rice was pretty tasty and the homemade chips were nice and crispy but the flavor was a little bland. Some people might like the green beans but neither my wife nor I were impressed. Next time I’ll just try a piece of pie!

That chicken fried steak was awesome. Great food and atmosphere. They use tallow for frying. My wife loves their hamburger and sweet potatoes. We’ll definitely come back!

Atmosphere: Local cafe, quaint and welcoming, bustling on a Saturday morning.

Food: Fried zucchini was amazing, chicken fried steak was huge and spot on, fried okra had me swooning. Even the salad was fresh and delicious. We ordered 6 slices of pie to go, because well…pie. So many options! Fudge pecan was our favorite.

Service: Knowledgeable, friendly and on top of things despite the crowd.

Price: Moderate.

Beavers Kitchen located in Chapel Hill TX. Is the best small town restaurant I have ever eaten at! The staff is awesome and the food is exceptional! I myself am not a chicken fried steak fan but here at Beavers Kitchen I will order the chicken fried steak almost every time. As a matter of fact their chicken fried steak is so good, it is literally the only place I will eat a chicken fried steak. The rest of the food is also amazing and their homemade pies are excellent! If you have not been to Beavers Kitchen then you are missing out on the best food in the Brazos Valley. So come get some. A huge thumbs up for this little country restaurant treasure!
