This is a must. Everything was delicious. The service was fantastic.

We had 5:15 reservations and showed up a little early and was sat right away. We ordered the crudo, cheese and focaccia, NY strip, cabbage and potatoes.

The cabbage was to die for.

Perfect amount of food for 2 people. We even called it off with the cobbler. I wasn’t very impressed though. It was cold and somewhat burnt at the same time.

All in all it was a great dinner out. Get all the sides and share. Maybe skip on desert. But everything else was perfect.

We ordered the crudo, caesar salad, tri tip, and gnocchi. Crudo tasted fresh, The greens in the salad was watery, I loved it.. but the red cabbage was a bit too bitter. Equal ratio might have been the best. The Steak tasted soooo good —highly recommend, makes me wonder what the ribeye would taste like. The cobbler was a 12/10 , so crunchy and moist would def come back to try other dishes.

Loved the vibe. The Caesar salad was excellent, the steak and pork chop were juicy and delicious, and the live-fire cooking was amazing. The service was warm and friendly, and the counter seating is a must-try.

Second time I’ve been here and even better than the last. Drove up from Irvine when in town from Seattle for work and worth the trip. Go, sit at the bar, and get away for an hour or two and experience one of the best meals you’ll have on the west coast.

Holy Moly, what an amazing experience!

Normally I am a bit nervous on places that have hype, but trust me this place is special.

Most everything is cooked on some sort of fire from the veggies to bread to the meat, which for sure is the star of the show, which you see the chefs cooking right there in the dining space.

Atmosphere was lively, mostly smaller tables as the space is small inside. Service was five stars from the minute we walked in to the minute we left.

Pricing was not bad based on the size of the portions and the quality of the ingredients which were top notch. Such a local gem, they deserve all the support and love after all the terrible fires in this community.

The number one thing I would recommend, as of Dec 2025 you need a reservation for this place – book early and enjoy!

Upon stepping into the world that is Betsy, one is met with caramel tones and a lovely open fun energy. Flames in the center of the space are well tamed by the cuisine artists who are working to make this food truly beautiful for us who are present. The menu is a perfect amount of items and the design of the menu is smart as it’s just one long list blending from the top of the meal all the way thru the entrees into the desert options. Everything pairs well with everything and that’s very smart. We shared and were inspired to share the Goat cheese plate / the tomatoes and fresh burrata. They both feature perfectly paired bread which is tinged with slight blackened around the edges and this connects these dishes in a beautiful and new way. The cauliflower is not only amazing but it’s also a ‘sprouting’ variation which with just the right amount of sea salt, it makes one savory each bite.
The Gnocchi is one of a kind and dressed with lemon pepper and butter and when enjoying it one can tell this is different and almost how one would curated sea scallops while also simultaneously being a smart and savory foreshadowing of desert. For dessert order both the Cheesecake which is dense in size but complex to taste. Pair this with their ‘Cobbler’ which unlike the pie style one is used to, this cobbler moment is absolutely a surprise as it’s absolutely cornbread in nature and most memorable. The staff here is wonderful from the hostess who knows how to time the tables to the fun make server we had, the kind chef tom who came over and the effervescent server named ‘Sam’ she was excellent and so very welcoming to us to the upbeat and fun culture that is Betsy! We shall be back for sure and order everything we didn’t this time!

Great experience overall, it was difficult to find a reservation with early notice , but once there, nothing is rushed. Waitress allowed plenty of time to settle down , make choices and gave good recommendations. The ceasar salad, steak and tallow fried potatoes were excellent. The steak in particular was cooked medium rare to medium without questions asked, and the compound butter added to the experience. Did not get to try a dessert this time, but will be back for that and gnocchi.

Dinner at Betsy’s was one of those rare evenings where every element quietly aligns.

The dining room is warm, beautifully appointed, casual and comfortable — with perfect acoustics. Conversation flows easily, the space feels intimate without being cramped, and there’s a genuine sense of calm and care in the room.

Service was world-class: attentive, gracious, and deeply professional without ever feeling intrusive.

And the food — sensational. True farm-to-table, with a hunter-gatherer sensibility that feels rooted, seasonal, and intelligent rather than showy. Every dish was exquisitely balanced, respectful of ingredients, and confidently executed.

Betsy’s delivers something increasingly rare: refinement without pretension, warmth without sloppiness, and cuisine that feels both thoughtful and deeply satisfying. A standout in Alta Dena.

The Betsy story is amazing–rising from the tragedy in Altadena after the fires. Everyone should go eat here, support the place and community, and have a fabulous time. The ambiance and service are fabulous. The space is small so set your Resy alerts or walk in early.
For some feedback on the food–what they are doing is perfect California fresh and seasonal fare. Something for everyone, really. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t perfect on our trip there. The hotel butter on the steak was ice cold and never actually melted onto the steak (which leads me to believe our steak sat too long before being brought to us.) The Caesar salad is good and HUGE but nothing particularly memorable–next time I’ll get the other salad. And our potatoes, which are apparently a best seller, were burnt beyond recognition. At first i thought that was intentional, but we could see all the other potatoes going out to tables and the rest looked very much unburnt. By the time we realized, we had finished our dinner, but i absolutely should have said something.
In summary, you should come to Betsy for the overall experience and vibe–the food was good but not great on our visit. I imagine it was a one-off and i look forward to returning to try other menu items!

Had dinner at Betsy tonight and left with mixed reactions. The space itself is beautiful—such an inviting atmosphere, and it’s very cool to watch the chefs cooking over the live fire. It really adds to the experience and gives the place a warm, lively energy.
Food-wise, some dishes were fantastic, others not so much. The Caesar salad was great, the cauliflower was absolutely incredible, and the gnocchi was delicious—pillowy and almost dessert-like with the caramelization and lemon. The rolls were fine but a bit dense and not warm enough, and the potatoes were pretty bland.
The biggest issue was the pork chop. It was seasoned well but very overcooked, and the fatty bits were honestly unpleasant. It made both our stomachs turn, and my wife felt sick enough that we ended up leaving early. We were celebrating a birthday and had planned on ending with dessert, but by then we’d completely lost our appetite.
Service was generally great, though I wish someone had noticed that we barely touched the pork or potatoes, since it was pretty clear our experience took a turn.
Overall, some truly great dishes and an amazing ambiance, but the inconsistencies—especially with the pork chop—made the night a mixed one.
