The Queen of Haddock Sandwiches
A staple of the down east Maine eating experience. Bet has been serving up the greatest (and largest) fish sandwiches for my entire life. Haddock and fries is all you will find here on the menu. They have perfected both. Get there right at 11 a.m when they open because they will sell out.
Locally sourced haddock supplied from her family, it does not get any fresher. Big slabs of lightly breaded crispy haddock piled on a kaiser roller. Shoestring style well-done fries the old school way. The dill sauce is delicious, like an upgraded version of tartar.
Top tier fish sandwich. Beauty in simplicity. Boothbay will have lost a legend the day that shack closes. I hope I am not around to see it.

I have been vacationing to Boothbay for over a decade and Bets is a must I wait all year to have their fried fish and it really is the best. Lightly breaded and fried perfectly. The breading doesn’t take away from the fresh fish I couldn’t be happier with this place. And so nice to check in with the girls every year who run it.

My favorite place to get fish and chips! I had a hankering and decided it was time for my first visit of the season. I feel like I recall that they used to do half portions, which is no longer the case… so let it be known that the portions are incredibly generous! A fish dish with a side of fries will easily be enough for two adults with average/normal appetites… and as such, I wound up with leftovers. The fish is always fresh, sweet, and oh so delicious, and their shoestring fries are perfect! I recommend getting both sauces with the fish. Rhe service is always very fast. Parking is weird, but that’s always been the case. Cash or check only, so be sure to bring enough money for food and tip! Prices on the menu already include the tax, so no surprises going in.

This place is the bomb! Tucked into a small lot in the middle of town, this place has limited hours and only three items on the menu: Haddock Sandwich, Haddock in a Bowl and French Fries. All of it is superb.
The haddock is fried and about as fresh as it could be. You have a choice of tartare sauce and lemon dill sauce. Ask for both. We didn’t have the fries, and it’s a good thing because we were stuffed just from the sandwiches. The servings are massive! There was about a half pound plus of haddock on each sandwich.
Next time I think we’ll split a bowl and some fries (which also looked like a huge portion), and call it good.
The staff is friendly and speedy – guess you have to be if you’re only open 3 hours a day.
It doesn’t get any better than this!

Small list of items to order from. The food itself is good. Drinks come from an overpriced vending machine behind the building.
Outdoor seating only. Difficult parking… Try to back in to make leaving easier.

We’ve heard nothing but good things about this place and they are all true. 9 of us ate here 7/15/21, arriving about 1:35. They are only open 3 hour’s from 11-2 and often close earlier because they run out of fish. We were lucky today, because they had extra fish. It does cost a fortune for just fried Haddock and fries, but it’s good for a once a trip (from Ohio) lunch. If you like all you can eat fried fish at home and always ask for more, then the large fish is for one. Fries are a HUGE order. Get a small, or share a large with at least 3 people. Cash only and if want soda, you have to buy from a machine behind the place. Photos are of Large fish and large fries.

Bet’s is hands down THE best fish and chips I’ve had north of the equator. It’s one of my very most favorite foods, and dang! Bet’s does it right!Lightly seasoned and dredged before frying to crispy, flaky, tender perfection. This is not over-breaded, tough or skimpy. The fries are, likewise, crisp on the outside and tender in the middle. Delicious all the way around and the price can’t be beat in Maine. So so so good. Even if free beer day isn’t till tomorrow, snag some fish and chips:)

Bet’s is one of those places that serves one thing, but it do it extremely well. The haddock was delicious and the portions were huge. The food came out really fast and hot. It’s a roadside hut with 9 picnic tables with umbrellas. There’s a soda vending machine behind the building and it’s right next to a park with a large grassy knoll with public bathrooms. Great place to stop with a dog.
