The chicken was tender, but the rice had a little flavor. The price is expensive in comparison to the quantity. Thai tea is unable to made less sweet. I was quite dissatisfied with the taste. It lacks the distinct flavor of Thai cuisine. One positive aspect is the excellent service!

Be sure to check out @betong before it closes on December 27th inside Canal Street market. Although I didn’t like it, everyone should just try it once to see whether or not they like it. Everyone has different taste buds and likes. I didn’t like it because it was way too greasy and sugary. I didn’t like its taste. Everything was way too oily and greasy from the bun to the rice platter. It was also too sugary as well. The portion size was good, and it fills you up. This place was also over priced, my entire meal was $20. I expected more from this place. There are places to seat inside the market place. My food also came out at a medium pace. Out of everything, I liked the Thai iced tea the most.

Price: $21.39
Rating: 5/10

Omggg if I could give this place 10 stars I would. We stumbled in here after going to the Banksy Museum and the smell as soon as you walk in is amazing!! It’s towards the back on the right side. The service was gentle and accommodating. The food was beyond mouthwatering!!!! They were so friendly and let us sit right up front to eat comfortably. I had the #5 (chicken tom yum noodle with chicken bun) and my partner had #6 (salmon curry middle with chicken bun) my boyfriend devoured his food and left a nice tip! We also had Thai lemon iced tea which has a nice small kick to it I’m not sure what spice but it’s perfect. The noodles with the chicken are a little spicy but not too spicy. The broth for the salmon is creamy and a little thick. I would come back here a million times. The music, atmosphere, great food & service were unbeatable and affordable prices.

The steamed chicken was really good, deboned and with smooth skin and tender meat. The emphasis lies on the sauces: a seafood sauce dominated by fish sauce, a pungent and aromatic ginger sauce, and a sweet and dense amber-colored syrup, each with its own charm.
The rice is quite unique, round and short, mixed with crispy rice crust, adding several degrees of fragrance.
The grilled chicken was flavorful, not overly exotic in its spice profile, but rather a crowd-pleasing seasoning that most palates can appreciate. If you order the somtum gai yang set, you’ll also receive a serving of green papaya salad—crisp, tangy, and sweet—sure to tantalize your taste buds!
The Roti is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served alongside fragrant green curry.
The Thai milk tea has a thick, cooling herbal tea-like flavor. It’s sweet, but thankfully the tea flavor is not lacking.

Loved this place! Staff was so welcoming and kind. So many options to choose from. We got the steamed chicken rice + soup, curry chicken, and chicken buns. Everything was so delicious and full of flavor. The ginger sauce that came with the steamed chicken was phenomenal. The perfect amount of spice. Their papaya salad was fresh and refreshing. My favorite dish was the curry chicken. 10/10 would recommend!

Friendly service in the busy Canal Street Market. You can either order and pay at the kiosk (4% fee), or order at the counter and pay cash. Betong seemed to be busier than some of the other food vendors.

It’s nice to be able to see into the food prep area as your meal is being made. The food looks as good as the pictures on the menu. There’s a bit of a wait as the food is prepared but it’s worth it. If you’re in a group, use the wait time to secure seating.

Located in the canal street market, a hidden gem, fully halal menu.

We got the chicken curry and grilled chicken and rice.

The chicken is very tender, don’t need teeth, the green curry is spicy and aromatic, and the rice is just perfect.

Service is professional, staff is respectful and food came out fast.

Highly recommend, give it a try!

Found a nice casual spot for incredible papaya salad and grilled chicken near Chinatown. Located in Canal Street Maket, BeTong is a food counter specialized in khao man gai. The pricing is very affordable, meaning you don’t have to splurge to get quality thai food.

*Papaya Salad ***
My favorite of the night. It is an assortment of papaya, long beans, cherry tomatoes and crush peanuts. Extremely appetizing as it is drizzled with a spicy tangy dressing. I’ll def come back and order this again and again esp on hot summer day.

*Grilled Chicken Rice **
I poured the tamarind ginger sauce over ginger rice and BOMB it was amazing!! The chicken was soooooo tender and also had a great chemistry with the sauce.

*Chicken Bun
The grilled chicken was flavorful and got a good fat-to-meat ratio. Sadly the steamed bun was lukewarm… It was probably premade and they didn’t reheat the food before serving.

*Curry Chicken and Roti
The green curry was thick and creamy with a nice touch of coconut milk. Flavor-wise we really liked it, and hoped it could be spicier. However the roti was also served cold… Don’t repeat my mistake—get the rice to pair with your curry.

*Thai Iced Tea
Not too sweet. A nice accompaniment to your chicken rice.

Set #1 is worth your money. You’ll get the chicken rice with either a chicken bun or a salad. If you visit Canal Street then don’t miss the food here. Plus, Thai tea here is not too sweet. This is one of my favorite chicken rice places in NY.

Food was awesome!!!! The grilled chicken is so tender and the thai iced tea was a hint less sweet than most places with more emphasis on the tea taste than the cream/half n half, and I loved it. The chicken bun was so fluffy and yummy. Hiiiighly recommend and so grateful this was walking distance from our hotel. Am absolutely coming back!
