Visited this place over a dozen times. Very consistent in terms of quality and flavors. Both indoor and outdoor seating experience is good. Street parking.
Almost all Thai food seeks a balance between the four flavors, which are sweet, salty/umami, sour, and spicy. And depending on the chef, those flavors tend to lean more towards a preference for more sweet, more umami, or more sour. And even when you order a mild level of spice, there is ALWAYS spice present. Thai mild spice is always going to be more powerful than any other cuisine on earth.
But we were never asked what level of spice we wanted and the food lacked any sort of heat. We’ve had Thai food in Thailand, Japan, California, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, New Jersey, Virginia, D.C. and North Carolina. We’ve always been prompted with our choice of spice level, with exception to Best Thai Kitchen. I’m not sure if their lack of heat in their dishes is catering to the local crowd but it was a big red flag.
The Thai iced tea tasted like the pre-made stuff most restaurants buy in a can, as opposed to something freshly brewed. Way too sweet.
Tom kha was probably my favorite, although the herbs and galangal sometimes could be sinewy. Loved the flavors overall.
My pad see ew noodles were on the gloopy side. Wish they would have charred them better and not added so many extra vegetables. I would have preferred just broccoli, a slice of lemon, and crushed peanuts. Instead, I noticed a piece of broccoli, tons of cauliflower, and shredded carrots. It just seemed very untraditional.
Service was just ok. The place wasn’t crowded, but we weren’t really checked on at all until it was time to pay the check.
Interesting there is another Thai restaurant directly across the street. I wonder what the story behind that is all about?
Was this the best Thai food we’ve had? That we’ve even had in the States ? No…but it’s better than copping out and going some place else for sloppy Italian, burgers, and chicken finger baskets. I think we’re going to try the place across the street next time we’re in the area and compare. Best Thai Kitchen didn’t have much in the way of parking and the other Thai restaurant did. And the entree prices were on the steep side.
Service is OK but not going above and beyond which is kind of sad, as that is something they can easily improve on.
Vegan & Vegetarian – Very accommodating. I was so hungry and food was yummy did not get around taking a picture.
Outdoor sitting on a cool summer evening was a great touch to a small town ambiance.
Service- We have been here a few times and always the service is incredible. A huge shout out to the servers for always warm and friendly.
