I don’t usually leave reviews, but The Best Soul Food in Town was such a letdown that I had to speak up. The name is misleading — it should honestly be called “The Worst Soul Food in America.”
My order was a mess from the start. I was missing my mac and cheese, and the yams were terrible — they tasted like plain boiled sweet potatoes that somebody just cut up and threw in a container. No flavor, no seasoning, nothing.
For a restaurant claiming to be the best, this was hands down the worst soul food I’ve ever had in my life. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Save your money and your expectations.

We ordered the food via Uber Eats BEFORE seeing the rating.
As we waited, I checked the google reviews and IMMEDIATELY got discouraged because its rated 3.8!!! I would’ve NEVER ordered from a place with a 3.8!! HONEY, I”M SO GLAD I DIDN’T SEE THAT RATING FIRST!!!
This food was so dawggon GOOD! We were visiting from outta town staying in an Airbnb with no car. Thank God for Uber Eats!
Everything was so flavorful, hot and fresh! My hubs ordered the Smothered Pork Chops with Yams and mac and cheese…. The pork chops were AMAZING – 2 HUGE chops!! Its seasoned like you’re at home…REALLY good! The yams were mildly sweet but still pretty good. They had something else on it too that added additional flavor dimension. The mac and cheese was good BUT it seemed like it was from a box. Definitely not the star of the show but will do if you’re like me and have rarely met a mac and cheese you didn’t like lol!!!
I ordered Fish and grits….WOW! It was 2 huge pieces of fish and the grits were nice and cheesy. Very nice flavor and it came with what tasted like Louisiana Hot Sauce.
Everything was really good. IDK why or what happened with the folks who had bad experiences…meaning idk if it was a one off experience or if there’s a particular cook who isn’t that great…but our food was PHENOMENAL! It arrived hot and fresh too!

The food is CAN WORTHY. They call themselves the best in town…. THEY LIED. LOL. The sweet potatoes are bland. They have syrup and cinnamon. Thats it. The mac…. is not baked mac. It’s Velveeta cheese shells. The ox tails were tender but not seasoned. Chilllleeee. If you don’t want to cook… just say that. Don’t drop can food in a tray. This is my first and last time. $25.99. REGRETS.

Absolutely terrible experience. Calling this place Best Soul Food in Town is a joke. The food was completely bland with no seasoning, the meat was dry, and the sides tasted old and reheated. Nothing came out hot or fresh. Portions were small and overpriced for the low quality being served. The owner and the cashier were rude and dismissive, acting like customers were an inconvenience instead of people spending money. Customer service was awful from start to finish. The wait was long for food that was not even worth eating. Houston has plenty of real soul food spots and this is not one of them. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I ordered the Oxtails and the smothered pork chops both with Mac and Cheese and Yams. Not good at all! The oxtails were not seasoned and chewy. The pork chops were seasoned with just salt. The yams were dry and overcooked with no flavor. The mac and cheese was Velveeta shells and cheese out the box. And the rice was not cooked and crunchy! Oh and we bought mashed potatoes and they were fair. Not homemade but it was better than the rest of the dinner! In other words save your money!

I had a very good experience at this soul food restaurant! As you can see the cabbage was cleared before I could get my photo I ordered to-go and my food was ready right on time for lunch. The oxtails and gravy were tender and delicious. fabulous customer service as I asked in my online order for a piece of cornbread, they made sure to include it. Thank you for lunch

There are only a few people working in this establishment so bring your patience. Don’t be rude because you will regret it when you taste the heavenly anointed soul food prepared. The oxtails so good they fall off the bone. Turkey legs are so tender and delicious my goodness. Don’t forget the yams, cabbage and greens. They have a variety of plates for every pallet.

Excellent food super friendly employees went above and beyond accommodating my brother’s diabetic needs. Loved the Greens they had the flavor of love put in them. Great little hole in the wall place to eat.

It was my first time eating here today and I was very excited! The lady who took my order was super friendly. I got the smothered pork chop plate with yams and greens. The food was very good and well seasoned. A+ for the food and customer service, I will definitely be back!
