I attending a wedding and reception at the location which was my first introduction to the restaurant. The food and service were so great that my wife, a few friends and myself returned the next night for dinner. The atmosphere was very relaxing, the food and service were excellent. I recommend the Filet Mignon or the Surf and Turf. Though all of the staff provided top notch service and treated us very well, I have give a big thanks to James for for his accommodations and for taking good care of us during our two days at the restaurant. Also, thanks to our server Alex for the service that he provided us as well. Great Job Guys. I’ll be seeing you on my next trip to Charlotte.

If you like history and good food, this is a great stop! Housed in the historic Ratcliffe Florist Shop building (originally built circa 1929) and later adapted to restaurant use; its architecture is Mediterranean Revival style by architect William H. Peeps. Its location is in a bustling part of downtown so they can be quite busy.
I popped in on a weekday for lunch and just sat at the bar and I had the Caesar wrap and it was probably one of the best I’ve ever had! I would 100% go back here

My husband and I went to Bernadin’s for our 12th year anniversary. We had the duck spring rolls, roasted muscovy duck breast, and chicken nicoise. All the dishes were good. The service was fast and our server was attentive.

My first time experience at this restaurant was less than stellar. It was the Monday after valentines weekend so Is understand if they were low on certain items but I ordered the squid ink pasta that was supposed to come with a crab claw and mussels as well as the other seafood items per their menu that I was handed and ordered from. I got my order and those two items were missing. I wasn’t given an explanation or told ahead that they were out of them. So I pulled up the online menu to show the waitress hey these are missing. She went back to ask someone and came back and told me that I was looking at an old online menu and not their current one. So basically gaslighting me. I said maam I know this was on the printed menu because I ordered it because of these items that it is missing. And my BF confirmed he saw it on there too. I hadn’t looked at the online menu previously either. She said she’d get the manager. Came back and said they were not there which I knew was a lie. He didn’t want to talk to us to resolve it. We received the check with an 8 dollar discount. And I didn’t feel like that was enough and honestly felt a bit disrespected by the whole thing. So finally she goes back and low and behold the manager appears. He tried telling me again that I was reading an old online menu, again trying to gaslight me for some reason about this food item. I told him I would not have ordered it had I known those things wouldn’t be in the dish. He told me I should smile more and don’t I have enough mussels with my BF? (He is muscular). Finally he begrudgingly agreed to give us half off the 40 dollar price tag. I will not be going there again. Who gaslights customers ?? That was so wild.

Bernardin’s is a good spot for a team lunch. I work a block away and got to choose where to go. I knew this place would be fine. Friendly service decent prices and good food. I got the Goat Cheese Ravioli with vegetables. It was awesome. Recommend a reservation.

Tonight I dined here because it was a highly regarded restaurant, and the experience was unfortunately disappointing. Though I rarely leave reviews, I feel compelled to share my thoughts.

Upon arrival, I waited at the bar, bought a bottle of wine and had a glass while I waited to be seated. When our table was ready, I was surprised to find that I had to carry both the glass and the bottle of wine—along with my purse and jacket—through the entire upscale dining room because they wouldn’t bring it to my table.

As the meal progressed, the service felt rushed. My salad was barely touched before the entrée arrived, and before I could even finish the entrée, the dessert was placed on the table. This sequence of a three-course meal within a mere 30 minutes left us with little time to savor each dish and a cluttered table.

To add to the frustration, when we went to pay, their system was down, causing a 30-minute delay at the end of the meal. In essence, we were hurried through our dining experience only to be left waiting at the end.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience at a restaurant that I expected far better from.

I will add that the food would have been ranked higher if I could actually eat it. I was about 3 bites into each course before the next was brought out.

Bernardin’s at Ratcliffe delivered an exceptional dining experience with a perfect balance of flavor, ambiance, and service. From the moment we arrived, the warm yet sophisticated atmosphere set the tone for an excellent meal.

The clam chowder was a standout—rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, easily one of the best we’ve had. The beet salad was beautifully plated and well-balanced, with earthy sweetness complemented by fresh, crisp ingredients. For drinks, the Negroni was expertly crafted—smooth, bitter, and refreshing, just as it should be.

For the main course, the chicken dish was outstanding—perfectly cooked, juicy, and thoughtfully paired with sides that enhanced every bite.

Service was attentive but never intrusive, making for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Bernardin’s is definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for top-notch food and drinks in a refined yet inviting setting. We’ll be back!

Where do I start? I am from Winston-Salem and have eaten at Bernardin’s several times. My mom had terminal cancer and got remarried and had her wedding dinner there. Lots of ties.

Now to Charlotte. It’s my birthday and I discovered the restaurant was also here in Charlotte (yes, it has been here for a long time, but I don’t go uptown much). What a treat, so we made a reservation!

We are directed to park in The Green parking deck. It’s a very small 2 level deck. 1/3 is church parking, 1/3 is monthly. We drove around in crazy circles taking us back to where we started for at least 15 minutes trying to find a spot. Luckily caught someone leaving. We arrived about 15 minutes early and walked in the door with the Bernardin’s sign over it. We were immediately scolded for coming in the wrong entrance for a private party and rudely directed to the main entrance. Inside, it’s a very small area with a small room off to the side, a very small bar, and a host station. No one was there so we waited for a few minutes. We waited some more. I walked up the ramp behind the bar and could now see the main restaurant. I waited there and everyone ignored me as I held my hand up. Walked back down to the host station. We were there for 15 minutes and no one came to the front the entire time. By this time, it was 1:00. We were already frazzled with the parking and decided no one was coming and so we left.

It’s 12:45 downtown. Why would no one be at the front to greet patrons or at least someone attending the bar? It was the most frustrating experience, and I would be horrified if I was the owner/manager and someone sat at the front waiting for a table for 15 minutes especially with a reservation.

To add insult to injury, we had to pay to get out of the parking lot.

No, we didn’t eat there but that was at the top of my list for restaurants in Charlotte and truly disappointing that it is no longer on my list or my family’s in W-S.

Visited for my dad’s 80th birthday with a cousin. Ambiance was gorgeous! Prices a little high as expected, but for the actual portions, very reasonable. Our waitress was very kind and attentive to us and all of the tables within her sphere, service is a major pet peeve of mine! Got the shrimp and grits meal and it was excellent, just the right amount with a salad and dessert. They also have a great selection of cocktails and wines! Will definitely be back for another occasion!
