Berens Frozen Custard is a family owned ice cream shop located in The Railyard in downtown Grayson. Originally founded in 1976 by my Father, Don Berens, we are Atlanta’s original, and best, frozen custard shop. Winner of the AJC’s best ice cream shop in Atlanta in 2018 & 2020, and also named Best of Gwinnett 7 years running!

Frozen custard shouldn’t taste this good . The young lady that took my order was so professional. She greeted us with a warm smile and a pleasant hello. On 11/08/25 at 305pm my brother and I and his son stopped by to enjoy some frozen custard. I’m from Charlotte NC and my brother that resides in Georgia bragged about how good this place is. Well he was right. I had a milkshake and it was perfect. The atmosphere was perfect. The store was clean. The outside was debris free and the tables were clean and well stocked with napkins.

Beren’s is my dessert happy place — their chocolate milkshake with Oreo is smooth bliss, and the chocolate concrete? A crunchy, creamy dream. Love that they offer samples bless them, and everything feels lighter than your usual sugar bomb spots.
Bonus: no post-dessert regret like I get from other places. Always worth swinging by for a rotating special and a little frozen joy.

Delicious velvety frozen custard.
I ordered the brownie hot fudge sundae with vanilla custard. The brownie pieces tasted home made, loved it! Although I wish it had more hot fudge.

If you’ve never been to Berens, your missing out! It’s important to note, they make their ice cream fresh, daily, so they only carry three fresh flavors; Vanilla, Chocolate, and a flavor of the day. And while you can get other flavors that are packaged in pints in their fridge, you can’t beat fresh custard! My family loves this place, and we will continue to visit for years to come.

My family and I just left Berens. I had a great experience, per usual. I witnessed something that I had never seen before. The establishment was very busy and it was standing room only. Another family came in and a lady asked, ” Do you all need some help?” I was not aware who she was but she washed her hands and put on gloves. Me being who I am, I asked her was she the owner. She said she was part owner. What stood out was that she came in with her beautiful family; I’m sure she wasn’t expecting to work. I commended her on stepping in because most people would not help their team under ANY circumstances. It was a sight to see. That is why I prefer and support local businesses. Corporations would never step in to help take care of the customers. We have a few ice cream shops but none of them are like Berens. Owners and staff like theirs will keep them afloat in these hard economic times. It feels good to treat your family to an establishment and you know that you aren’t being cheated on quality due to the economy.

It was our first time here and I quite say that it was very nostalgic very authentic and absolutely delicious. My kids enjoyed it so did I I got the two scoop cone. My daughter got the one scoop in a cup as well as the blitz amazing amazing we will definitely be coming back. Customer service is very nice and veryvery professional. Thank you for the staff for the recommend recommendations. We will definitely be coming back soon.

A melted mess! Went to get frozen custard on Father’s Day. Part of my order was missing. No organization of long lines. Custard was dripping on the floor before I made it out the door. Sweet milk at best. Will not be back for a good while, if ever.

Such a cute shop! The frozen custard is yummy! The baked treats I’ve tried were also really good. The tables inside are always clean and the outdoor seating is lovely when the weather is nice. The staff are so polite and helpful. I love to stop here to pick up a little treat for myself or my family. I usually get one of their signature concretes.

Super cute spot with absolutely delicious frozen custard! Went out on February 1 for National Ice Cream for breakfast day. I got the waffler. It was vanilla custard with mixed-in waffles and maple syrup. Absolutely Delicious! I highly recommend you come check them out and try one of there new flavors that rotate! And face paintings that are awesome!!!
