Excellent bento place with a mom and pop feel! Locally owned and basically decorated. You enter, order your own food and we’ll be served shortly thereafter. Nothing fancy, but amazing food! Great service and very helpful staff! Homemade dessert that was suggested was excellent! Will be returning many times!

Stopped by on a whim. Best decision ever. It’s tiny shop, with seemingly a simple kitchen but the food that comes out of it, tastes and looks like it came from a fully kitted kitchen. I would highly giving it a try. I know I’ll be back.

This place is really great. The people who work there are super friendly and you can tell they care about what they do and the service they provide. Katsudon and Katsu Curry were both good choices.

Affordable bento meals. They have their everyday menu and a couple daily specials. I got the hamburger and didn’t realize the other one had pasta in it so while definitely look at the picture twice. I love how all the food has a picture so you know exactly what you’re getting. Not too much space. It says 14 max. Nice little cozy takeout place (with dine in option) in Novi/Northville area.

I’ve driven by this place many times over at least 5 years that I remember. Today I finally decided to give it a shot since I was craving for Japanese food.
I ordered Tonkatsu Bento and my wife Katsu Curry. Man they were so good and authentic!!
I used to live in Japan for 18 years and it totally brought me back to Japan.
My wife ordered Matcha Cheesecake and it was awesome too.
Not to mention the service was great.
Can’t wait to try other menu next time soon.

We ordered tonkatsu and salmon (plain) bento meals. Very pleased with the meals. Self serve hot water and tea bags, cold beverages. Added an order of gyoza, steaming hot, again very pleased. We ate on stools at the window counter in this quite small shop which also has four small tables but mainly does a steady stream of carryouts. Cheery kitchen staff. This is a place for those homesick for simplicity and quality.

What a gem. I don’t know how I found this place, but I’m happy I did. We had the hamburger bento and oden. Both were fantastic and comforting. We went on a chilly, rainy day and the hot oden broth really hit the spot. Everything in the bento was delicious and the hamburger was tender and so easy to eat with chopsticks. The owner is so inviting and friendly, and the place is bright and spotless. I make it a point to go whenever I’m visiting the area. Great selection of food. It can get pretty busy at lunch time.

From my first time to my last visit to Bento39 always great authentic japanese bento sets, flavor, arrangement and tradition.
Wish this place could be closer from my house but it is worth every mile that you drive to enjoy real, homemade dishes.
Don’t miss any other side dishes and ohagi takes me back to childhood.

After eloping in New York City, my parents graciously hosted an impromptu wedding reception for my husband and I in my childhood home. We catered from Bento39 because my family is Japanese-American and we wanted to serve the food that we grew up eating and love. Though this store is known mostly for serving bento-style lunches, when we requested they cater our reception they happily accepted and exceeded our expectations!

The spread that they prepared for us had tons of variety. It contained lesser known in America staples such as oseki-han (red rice that’s eaten traditionally during celebrations), osechi (traditional New Year’s foods such as fish and stewed vegetables), and better known foods such as chicken karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and tonkatsu (pork cutlet fried with panko). I felt that it struck a good balance between traditional and modern Japanese food and it pleased all of my guests. The chicken karaage was particularly popular and delicious and I really enjoyed their potato salad. Bento39 also takes into consideration food sensitivities and preferences so I think that catering and eating lunch here can be a wonderful experience for everyone.

In addition to the delicious food, the service is excellent. The owner, Yukari, took the order in such short notice and even offered to give us more chicken (sadly we didn’t have enough time to wait for her complimentary chicken as we were in a rush to pick up our order!) and was just a delightful and warm person to interact with. I’d highly recommend coming into lunch and order catering here, the people truly care about their customers and the food is truly delicious.

Every time we can find an excuse to get food from Bento 39, we do it! The service is extremely friendly, not to mention timely, and the food is just outstanding. Our favorite is the pork katsu don, which we get “extra Dave style” which means with extra of the yummy sauce that comes on it. We recommend this place to everyone!
