The only downside was that parking around the area can be a bit difficult, and the shop itself is quite small, so seating is a little limited.
Overall, a great spot for a quick and tasty meal, and I would definitely come back again.
This location was formerly a Korean owned cafe in minimalism style. The new owner preserved the similar style and change it to the current setup. Cozy and comfy.
I ordered the Ton Jiri & Onigiri Set. Ton Jiri means Pork soup in Japanese. It was a large bowl of pork soup full of pork and other ingredients. The taste of the soup is rich. That made me feel so satisfied in terms of flavour and portion.
The main dish – the onigiri’s are authentic. The rice is firmly packed with seaweed. I chose mentaiko and takana.
The side dishes – mostly great. But I’d prefer the steamed egg served in hot rather than cold and this is the reason I take away one star.
Didn’t try their coffee this time. Probably I will visit again to try their coffee as well.
Overall the foods were nicely delivered and the servers were very attentive. It is a good place for small group of 2 for lunch or coffee.
The downside for me is that the restaurant has an open design, with the kitchen partially open at the top and connected to the dining area. Because of that, you can smell the cooking from the back, which makes the air feel a bit stuffy.
The food tasted simple & healthy (not smothered with sauce), but portion was somewhat small considering the price.
Recommend for people who eats average amount or less.
We ordered:
Aburi Salmon Sushi Set ($26) – the salmon was torched very well. The sauce on the aburi sushi was super tasty, so no soy sauce was needed, nor any was provided, I think they know what they are doing and they do it well. The side dishes were perfect, very cute and compliments the meal.
Deluxe Chirashi Don Set ($29) – a great variety of fish on the perfect amount of rice. Also came with all the delicious side dishes as well.
For $3 more, there is a selection of juice and pop for the meal. We opted for the iced hojicha latte and the matcha latte, which was an extra $6.
Service was great. Super attentive. It’s a smaller restaurant and they don’t take resos, so either go early, or take your chances.
I ordered the Ton jiru onigiri set, and it tasted just like the food I’ve had in Japan — authentic and comforting.
The teriyaki chicken in the set was especially delicious, though it wasn’t clearly labeled on the menu. The photo showed chicken, but there was no description, so I had to ask what it was. It would be great if they could update the menu with a bit more detail so customers know exactly what’s included.
The service was great, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better.
I also noticed the menu seems to have changed recently, which was a nice surprise — it made the visit feel new again. Hopefully, they’ll update the menu on Google soon to match what’s in the store.
Overall, highly recommend Bento Cafe for anyone craving genuine Japanese flavors served with a smile!
