Been to Benji’s a number of times over the years. It’s one of those iconic places you have to visit when you’re in Milwaukee. It’s not the best food I’ve ever had, but where else can you go to get a matzah ball like this?
Food:
The food is good, but I wouldn’t call it spectacular. I usually order the chicken soup with matzah balls. For me, the soup itself has always been a bit blah, more like a very thin chicken broth. The matzah ball is really the star of the show. I also noticed what other people were eating, and the corned beef sandwich and potato pancakes looked very good. Most people cleaned their plates, which is always a good sign.
Service:
Service has always been very good. Quick and efficient is the name of the game here. I got a spot at the counter, seated between two other people. Menus, ordering, and the check all happened without much waiting. The servers are friendly, but always on the move. There’s not much idle chatter.
Atmosphere:
The place feels worn, but clean. The large windows bring in lots of natural light. There is booth, table, and counter seating. They fit a lot of people into the space, but it doesn’t feel overcrowded. With that many people, the noise level can get loud.
Pro tip:
The parking lot is small and shared with several other businesses. It’s usually best to find a spot on the street.

This place has apparently been around for years, and I can’t believe I’m just now discovering it. I’m so glad I did. If you’re craving outstanding deli sandwiches, fresh soups, breakfast options, and classic deli favorites, this charming spot is absolutely worth a visit. I walked in hungry and left completely satisfied.
I ordered the corned beef sandwich, and it was delicious, piled high and full of flavor. The fries were cooked perfectly and paired so well with the sandwich. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back again in the future.

Saturday, August 2025: I went here for lunch with my husband. We both had the Chicken Soup with Matzo Ball and noodles. It was delicious, warm, and just tasted like a really great chicken soup!
I ordered tuna salad on rye with a side of potato salad and my husband ordered a corned beef sandwich with a side of slaw. The tuna was light and mild. The potato salad was tasty and really creamy.
My husband said his corned beef was a little on the drier side but overall he enjoyed his sandwich. The slaw was good and better than I remembered. I love the taste of cabbage and this slaw tasted like just that- very simple with a strong cabbage flavor.
***Sunday: We left a wallet and phone at Benji’s yesterday and we called this morning and they had them saved for us. We were SO appreciative!!! 5 stars for exceptional customer service!***

Benji’s is one of my favorite sandwiches. What’s better than corned beef or a Reuben? Or both? Also I’ve never had the pleasure of dining in the diner but I really want to. Soup is great. Sandwiches great. Pickles, fries, slaw, it’s all great. Get anything and you’ll love it. They have a sandwich where the bun is potato pancakes! Also look at that club! What? Come on.

We are always on the hunt for a tried and true “diner type joint” like we would go to while in New York – one of those places you go to repeatedly because the service is friendly, food is always tasty and feels a bit classically predictable for good food. I think we’ve found our Milwaukee place for that here at Benji’s! Nothing fancy – just solid menu, good food and great service! Breakfast all day, soup or deli items. We had challah French toast with strawberries, steak sandwich cooked perfectly medium rare, and the Super Hoppel Poppel.

This gem has been around a long time and I am just finding out about it! I’m so glad I did. If you are looking for fabulous deli sandwiches, fresh soups, breakfast items, and other deli items, check out their menu and stop in! We shared the brisket melt, tuna melt, and epiphany sandwich between four adults. They were all very large sandwiches and we had left-overs. Each came with a choice of side and a pickle. Sandwiches range around $20 and are worth it.

Great restaurant. Delicious food. Incredible service. Our waitress Sue was fast and took care of us even though the restaurant was packed. I had the Gonzo Sandwich. WOW! It was perfect. Super lean corned beef (just how I like it). My wife had the Creamy Tomato Parmesan Soup and Grilled Cheese Sandwich. There was no shortage of cheese! Mmm!!! I still can’t believe how fast our food came out after we ordered it…. FAST! I highly recommend eating at Benji’s Deli & Restaurant!

Quick service, Dr. Brown sodas, clean tables, a nice variety of customers, comfort food, and a great server Merka. Everything you might want at old school deli. Though it’s not Kosher but I know it’s not.

This sandwich was so good it brought me to tears. Possibly the best Jewish deli sandwich I’ve ever had (and I used to live in NYC). Their corned beef really is second to none. They hand slice it fresh for every sandwich. The folks that work there are super friendly and the atmosphere is exactly what you’d want out of a local Jewish deli. If there’s a heaven, this is it.
