Let me start by saying this: Bender’s uses clean ingredients, and that’s a big deal. Their dough is made simply—with olive oil, salt, yeast, and water. No sugar, no soybean oil, no soy—none of that junk that messes with your body. If you care about your health (or at least know what toxic additives can do to your system), then you’ll appreciate this. Most pizza places load their dough with garbage—sugar that wrecks your mitochondria, soy and soybean oil that mess with your hormones (especially for men). Not here. Bender’s dough is clean and feels clean in your body.
I only had a slice and a half, but that’s just because I don’t eat much these days—I’ve got a lot of mouths to feed at home. But I didn’t feel bloated or mucousy like I usually do after eating commercial pizza. That tells me everything I need to know.
Now let’s talk pizza: It’s big. Like, really big. Their large comes in a massive box, cut into 8 huge slices. I got one cheese and one pepperoni. The cheese was $12, the one-topping was $15—great prices for what you get. The kids demolished it. They loved it. Even ate the crust—and they never eat crust. That should tell you something.
As for taste: The cheese pizza was solid. Clean taste, perfect undercarriage (that crisp bottom you look for if you know anything about pizza), and the crust was actually enjoyable. The pepperoni was greasier than I like, but that’s expected. I ended up blotting it with a paper towel and picked off the pepperonis since I don’t eat much meat. Still, it was tasty and didn’t upset my stomach at all.
The inside of Bender’s is small, basic, and old-school—nothing flashy, but it works. I appreciate places that stay focused on the food. Staff was on point, friendly, and positive. One guy even stopped to ask how I was doing—just a small thing, but it mattered. Service was smooth from start to finish.
What didn’t I like? The parking. Seriously, the lot needs work. I parked behind the place and stepped out into straight-up mud and standing water. Not exaggerating. That needs to be addressed. Also—not a fan of people smoking out front. I know folks have their habits, but smoke and food don’t mix.
Still, when it’s all said and done, this place lands in my top three pizza spots. And I’m not some tourist—I’ve worked in pizza joints, and I’ve eaten pizza across the country. Bender’s stands out because of the integrity in their ingredients and the care in the final product.
I’m moving back to Arkansas soon, and I’m genuinely gonna miss this place—even though I’ve only had it once. That should tell you how impressed I was. If you’re in Massillon and craving pizza, go to Bender’s. Start with a cheese or pepperoni. If you’re health-conscious or ingredient-aware, you’ll notice the difference right away.
Respect to the owners and staff—I wish you all the best. You’ve got something special here.
