I’m lactose intolerant, which means something as simple and joyful as eating ice cream is usually not an option for me. For most people, that might sound like a small thing, but when everyone around you is enjoying something and you have to sit there and watch, it can make you feel really left out. Ice cream is supposed to be one of those simple, happy treats of childhood—something you share with friends and family. For a long time, it just wasn’t something I could be part of.
Then I met Talat.
Instead of brushing it off or treating it like it didn’t matter, he actually cared. He listened when I explained my situation, and he took the time to help me figure something out. It might seem like a small act to some people, but the way he treated me—with patience, kindness, and understanding—meant a lot more than he probably realizes.
Talat has this calm, warm presence that makes people feel welcome. He talks to you like you matter. Not like you’re just another customer walking in and out, but like you’re someone whose day he genuinely wants to make a little better. That kind of kindness is rare.
For me personally, it felt even deeper than that. I’ve always felt like I was missing that kind of supportive, fatherly figure in my life—someone who notices when something is wrong and quietly helps without making you feel embarrassed about it. The way Talat treated me reminded me of what that kind of care feels like. He didn’t have to do anything special, but he chose to help anyway.
That moment stuck with me. It showed me that sometimes the people who make the biggest impact in your life aren’t the ones who know you the longest—they’re the ones who show you kindness when they didn’t have to.
Because of Talat, something that used to make me feel left out became a moment I actually remember fondly. And honestly, that says everything about the kind of person he is.
Some people serve ice cream.
Talat serves kindness, patience, and warmth along with it.
