Bellomo’s Market (Rutland, VT) – Offbeat Eats

It’s pure “neighborhood” market, with mostly a selection of drinks and snacks… and a large deli counter taking up about a third of the restaurant.

New owners have destroyed this business. It is no longer a neighborhood deli, with a busy lunchtime crowd. It is now just another convenience store. I wish the original owners could come out of retirement and set things straight!

The food is great, and the prices are unbeatable. I just wish they would take time to update things from the previous owners. The menu is not current, I went in to get a salad with my sub as indicated on their menu that there are “fresh salads made daily” and that wasn’t an option. The phone number is also incorrect from their Google page, as a customer I don’t want to have to track down the right number. Overall a great place, just need some more adjustments made.

I’m new to the area so I can’t speak to what this place was like in the past. But I’ve gone a few times & ordered subs & they were great & very reasonably priced. Staff was polite too. Will def keep going back.

Went to Bellomo’s yesterday to place an order for sandwiches. They close the deli counter at 4pm. Who does that? Obviously not interested in business or being successful at it. If the owners are closing the deli counter at 4pm, in a deli, they won’t last long. I miss when Bellomo’s was THE Bellomo’s. Not sure what it is now. Totally unfortunate.

This place has really gone downhill. Not only are the prices jacked sky high, but the quality of the food is way below what it was for so many years. Staff is rude and condescending to customers and if you don’t pay attention, they over charge you. Bought chocolate bars and all three were stale!!

If you want the best grinders in town, skip gills and come here. Soooo much better and the staff is great. I love the deli salads like the buffalo chicken pasta salad, loaded potato & straight up pasta salad. Check Facebook for their daily specials!

I was born on travers place, moved to forest st, than union street, bellomos market was always there from grandma bellomo to Joe, we used to go in the cellar and see all the meat, used to eat grapes from the vines that grew behind the store as we were walking to meadow st Park to play in the summer or ice skate I the winter, mind you this was early 1970’s. As I moved to fairhaven in 1976, really loved that family

I really don’t know what happend to this place. It was my favorite go to sub shop but its just a mess now. No lettuce, or other veggies everytime I’ve gone, very little meat and veggies on subs, and always “forget” olives and pickles. The inside now is even trashy. Selling liquor right on the counter at the register and bare chip shelves.

This place is an institution and sacred to Italian-American immigrants. My mother grew up going here. I grew up going here. It has always been a place where people are kind and the food is good. It holds a very special place in my heart!

A regular convenience store at first glance, but having their sandwiches and anything else they prepare for the day shows that this place, at its heart, is a wonderful deli. The service is always great, and I can’t imagine Rutland without this hidden gem in the mix.
