I don’t understand how this place has gotten so many good reviews. Maybe I caught them on an “off” day/time, but my first time there will be my last time there.

My sweetie and I (who reside in Greentree) were in the North Hills attending to some things, it was 3:15 on a Friday afternoon and we hadn’t had lunch and wanted to do a late lunch/early dinner, both of us agreeing that pizza would “hit the spot.” Neither one of us had been to Bellisario’s before and wanted to try something new. Maybe the fact that there were three handwritten signs in the windows looking to hire a waitress, hostess, and a dishwasher should’ve been red flags?

There were three servers when we entered the dining area, the one told us to sit anywhere we wanted, which we did, choosing a table in the middle of the room and informing them that it was our first time there, to which two of them replied that it’s typically not “like this” (we were the only patrons there until roughly 20 minutes into our experience).

The server who took our order asked if we were ready, and I replied: “We’re ready if you are,” to which she stepped up to our table and said “Go ahead,” and I told her (speaking clearly but looking at the menu while I did so, so I don’t know if maybe I missed something) we wanted a large red pizza with chargrilled chicken and spinach. She said “What was that?” as she was fumbling to get a pen, then when I repeated the order and said “chargrilled chicken,” she asked “How many?” and then explained it was $6.00 per chicken breast to add on. I’ve been to pizza places all over Pittsburgh and my order is pretty much the same anywhere that offers grilled chicken and spinach as toppings, and I’ve never been asked that. Maybe Bellisario’s is different, but it was weird. (The answer is one. I’m not paying $12.00 for two chicken breasts on my pizza, thanks.)

So I was asked if I was ready to order and when I ordered, the server wasn’t ready, and instead of: “I’m sorry, my pen wasn’t working, can you repeat that,” (or whatever the issue was) I got a: “What was that?”

Throughout our experience we had two servers who came to our table to refill drinks/check on us and they were pleasant enough, but we were treated to four servers congregated at a table toward the kitchen having a loud conversation in which (yes, I counted) the “f bomb” was dropped four times in less than 10 minutes by one of them.

I’m an adult and we were the only customers in the restaurant, so on the one hand, I get it, on the other hand, what am I paying for/tipping for? I don’t want to hear about how a server bought something off Tik Tok and needs to figure out how to use a USB plug or how a server had to take their dog to the vet for surgery or how difficult it was for this or that server to park because of the snow.

After our food arrived and the fourth “f bomb” was dropped I walked over to the congregation of servers (now joined by someone from the kitchen) and said: “Excuse me, we can hear you, can you stop dropping ‘f bombs’?” The one server (who had been the one doing it) said “Sure,” and the person from the back said “It wasn’t me, I don’t swear,” to which I just said “Thanks,” and went back to my food.

The food was alright, not worth returning for. The one server was telling us how “He’s from Italy, he does it old school,” (I guess the chef/cook?) and we said “Oh” as if we were impressed.

For two of us, a large pizza with extra toppings, a side of fries, and a ginger ale came to roughly $35 (and yes, I tipped 20%).

In terms of trying to find the positive: The place appeared to be clean and at least two out of five people I encountered who work there have some understanding of customer service.

Again, maybe I caught them on an “off” day, I realize 3:15 in the afternoon is a weird time, but they were open for business, and you can have my money again and again if you can offer me an experience worth it.

Bellisario’s is now on the list of places I’ll never go to again. There are far better pizza places in Pittsburgh, and I’m sure they’ll be fine without me.

On a positive note, we felt the restaurant was clean and inviting (not sure about the kitchen though), and everyone was pleasant and accommodating. The menu was extensive and typical Italian restaurant choices which is what we were looking for. But honestly, the items we selected for dinner were unappealing and bland. The Italian wedding soup was ok, but lacked flavor and seemed a bit watery. The pizza slices were tasteless and the crust resembled a poor grocery store version you might find on clearance. And the Turkey Devonshire was, well… one of the worst dishes I’ve had anywhere. The cheese sauce tasted odd and was like watered-down Cheeze Whiz. But the turkey portion was generous as was the bacon. Maybe it was just an off night in the kitchen, but it is highly unlikely we will return. I think our waitress suspected we were not very pleased with our meal, but the restaurant was filling up and we didn’t want to say anything. But they also need to know the three dishes we ordered were just not very good. Sorry for the bad review, but this is just an honest opinion.

This place is the real deal. No BS – just old-school, Italian pizza.

Ordered a buffalo chicken pizza for pickup. Added fries, green peppers, and extra chicken. It was a very good pie; tasted exactly correct and better than expected.

I only had a brief interaction with the staff, but I felt like I could have hung out with them all night. Good people!

Loved, loved, loved Bellisario’s Restaurant . Our waitress was friendly, attentive and anticipated anything that we might need. She offered a bread basket while we waited for our order ….WOW! DOES BELLISARIO’S BAKE THEIR OWN BREAD!!!??!! SO SOFT AND FRESH!! . My friend really enjoyed the baked ziti. The Fettuccini Carbarna that I ordered was creamy and delicious . We took dessert home and they didn’t disappoint either. They were very generous with the strawberries on the cheesecake and the homemade pumpkin roll melted in my mouth. The only problem with the desserts are that they were gone too soon. .
Btw, our house salads were anything but wilty, they were tasty and just enough to start with while we waited for our entrees.
WELL DONE BELLISARIO’S .

Hello,
Our son had surgery at Passavant and we’ve had some long days. We’re from Latrobe and have been staying at a hotel close by the hospital. We predominately seek out local independent restaurants because we ourselves own our own restaurant. The other night we ordered a pizza and it was fantastic! Tonight we decided to have a nice sit down meal and we went back. I can’t begin to tell you how delicious everything was. Like OLD SCHOOL Italian cooking, wonderful service and we splurged and grabbed desert and it did not disappoint! Thanks you all for a wonderful evening. Hope to see you soon!

Food was mediocre Italian. Veal portions were small, thick and quite chewy. Marsala sauce was too thick and more like a beef gravy. Server was friendly and attentive.

Food is mostly okay. Something’s are definitely made better than others and have amazing flavor/authenticity. The menu online with the prices is outdated. They charge much more than what is listed so always expect it to be a good bit more than what you think. The owner is VERY rude. We have dealt with him several times and initially thought he was just short and not a talker. But it’s more than that. He has an attitude with everything. We had an issue with our food a couple times. The first issue we had was finding non food items in our food. This was met with an attitude. When asked for refund was told no. You can get a new one. Declined….it was after 9pm. I had worked a 16 hour shift and was due back in the morning. Explained this, he asked what are you going to do with the dinner. I said Throw it out… would you eat it? Was told no and hung up on me. So no refund or credit. Just basically it is what it is. Steak salad we got had the butt of the ice berg lettuce and was dirty. Told him about it was met with massive attitude and said so… take it out and the lettuce around it. They have forgotten things and when called I told them what was forgotten and asked to be refunded. Was told no. We were offered to come back and get it but again it was late and we aren’t very close to the place. When declined he said oh well maybe next time and hung up. There have been several other interactions like this. I will say maybe if you dine in things are better. Our experiences have all been with take away. Also like I said some food is really amazing and you can’t get the same flavors from anywhere near else around us!
