This used to be one of my favorite mala xiang guo spots. I’ve been eating here for almost three years, usually 3–4 times a month, so I know the food and the usual quality very well.
Around August 2025, I noticed the recipe seemed to change. The flavor was different from before, but it was still acceptable. However, since January, the food quality has noticeably declined, especially the meat. The crab stick is no longer fresh on one occasion it was clearly frozen for a long time, very sticky, undercooked, and still cold inside. After experiencing similar quality issues multiple times, I’ve stopped ordering it altogether because I’m concerned about consistency and freshness.
I usually tip well here, even though the customer service has never been great compared to other mala places in the same price range. On one visit when I didn’t tip, the staff’s attitude toward me changed noticeably. They became unfriendly, avoided conversation, and served me with clear frustration. When I returned the following week, I was treated even worse, as if they didn’t want to engage with me at all.
As a loyal customer, this was upsetting. I also feel that on some visits, items I selected such as bamboo shoots or meat were missing from my bowl. Since I eat here often, I can tell when things are gone.
I’m not writing this to attack the restaurant. I genuinely don’t want to give up on this place, because I know how good it used to be. I hope the owner sees this and takes it seriously. With fresh meat, consistent portions, and staff who at least smile while serving, this place could easily be one of the best mala spots again.

I decided to give this place a try even though some of the online reviews weren’t great but honestly, it didn’t disappoint! I ordered the Chongqing Fish Bowl in Flaming Red Oil with a small spicy level, and it was super tasty and authentic. Love that you can choose your own spice level too!
The portion is generous and totally worth the price. Don’t let the reviews scare you off it’s definitely worth a try!

I want to gatekeep this place, but I want this restaurant to do well. We’ve been eating here for a few years, their drypot can’t be beat. It’s really delicious. You pick what you want to go in, and pick a spice level, and they’ll cook it for you. Dining in also comes with a nice complementary sweet tea, which helps with the spice. We usually get it with rice. They’re a good spicy for casual spice eaters. Probably not stupid spicy for those who really fixate on it.

Delicious Chinese food with lots of Vegetarian options. You can pick a custom blend of proteins and vegetables and they’ll be cooked for you at a spice level you like. It’s a very simple and casual setting, but the food’s great!

Absolutely unacceptable experience. Came here to dine in, made it very clear at the counter, and they still tossed everything into to-go boxes like we were an afterthought. When we asked about actually eating inside the restaurant, the waiter had the audacity to tell us we “still need to pay tips” — for what service exactly? Handing us takeout boxes and shooing us away?
The attitude was unbelievable. Zero customer service, zero respect, and somehow they still expect a tip before offering even the bare minimum. The whole vibe felt like they couldn’t care less about customers. Honestly one of the most irritating and unprofessional dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Save your time, money, and sanity. There are plenty of places that actually want your business — this is not one of them. Never coming back.

I ordered the dry hotpot, and it tastes great! The flavor is the same as what I enjoyed in China. Initially, I was worried because of some 1-star reviews mentioning poor service. However, my experience was fantastic—I received great service! The staff even asked if I needed more rice when I took away the leftovers.

Casual and very authentic mlxg/dry pot place where you can pick and choose what ingredients you would like. They have several pre-chosen combinations, which was what we went with. The intestines were not too oily and fatty or crispy, and they didn’t drown the entire thing with oil. Found the mutton noodles also delicious and compatible with the dry pot. The dry pot is very spicy, I got mild but still found it mouth numbing, so be wary of the spice levels. Portion sizes are great, service can be slow, but that’s an authentic Chinese restaurant for you.

You picked vegetables and meats in separate bowls, and had them weighed at the cashier, time to get ready for a surprise to hear a whopping $47 for a bowl of spicy pot, then you were not sure if the food was enough, and continued to order more… Beef noodle soup came totally unlike the image of the menu. The food was mediocre and very pricy. The service was non-existent and inattentive. We felt stupid to even drop by. I won’t recommend this restaurant to anyone at all.

What’s not to like about Mala Dry Pot? You pick whatever veggie and meat you want and let them cook for you. A warning for those who can’t eat spicy, little spicy is still strong. It’s not all you can eat so watch out for the weight it’s easy to go overboard when picking veggie and meat.
