I grew up in San Diego, so I have visited the hotel many times over the years but have not seen it since this recent remodel. I think that they did a wonderful job with the redesign of the hotel and Beginners Diner as well. They also did a fantastic job with the Christmas decorations this year and really made an awesome space that you want to spend many hours in. We stopped in as a party of four on Sunday morning and were able to be seated after a 10 min wait. We had to sit outside, but it was really a nice location because it had great views of the pool and there was a nice breeze. Even in late December the weather in the morning is great in beautiful SD. Our server was very friendly and everything that we ordered came out very fast. The hotel offers valet otherwise it will be street parking. We were able to find a space directly across the street so it was a short walk.
The menu is not very large, but it has a lot of great options on it. For my breakfast, I chose the Bacon Avocado Benedict and honestly loved it. I really appreciated how they crumbled the bacon which I thought was a unique touch and the smashed avocado was also a good combo instead of just avocado slices. The hollandaise was made fresh and my egg was perfectly poached so overall it was honestly really good. Pricing was fair and the whole experience was really nice so I would definitely recommend to any local or tourist and I plan to be back again in the near future.

We went to Beginners Diner for our friends 30th birthday party with a very large group! A good amount of us were genuinely surprised as to how good their breakfast menu was!
I ended up getting Classic Eggs Your Way breakfast with some sausage and scrambled eggs! The sausage honestly was my favorite and was surprised it had some good flavor and wasn’t overly salty either. Eggs were good, a bit dry but not terrible! The hash browns were cooked great as well being perfectly crunchy and brown! I also did have to get their cinnamon roll! The waitress had highly recommended the cinnamon roll to be a restaurant favorite, and it turned out to be the tables favorite as well! It was perfectly moist, creamy, and not overly doughy either. Each bite had the perfect amount of icing as well. I was very impressed as I would not typically expect this from a restaurant in a hotel.
One thing that lacked was the pancakes. Few friends ordered the Buckwheat pancakes, and man. Those were not good at all. Lacked flavor and just tasted very gritty, like sand paper. Would not recommend and 3 people had ordered this which was a bummer.
Breakfast Sando was pretty good! Had good crunch and good flavor! The hash browns made it all the better for the sandwich with a good crunch and paired with bacon was perfect.
Lastly, the Benedict was also pretty good! Nothing special but nothing bad.
Overall, not bad and they have some good options, but nothing I’d want to or crave to come back for, unless I am staying at the hotel or grabbing a dessert for that cinnamon roll!

The atmosphere is amazing went on a date with my husband here. Yes it’s a dinner but not the greasy gross kind. It’s a retro modern look. The food was so good and fresh. I had a chicken schnitzel sandwich and a Greek salad. The Greek salad had heirloom tomatoes in it and freshly diced dill on top. It was so good and so fresh I loved it. The tea was fresh. Everything was clean. Our server was great.

Found this little dinner after visiting La Fayette hotel – we were seated in the counter so we got to enjoy the dinner experience. They had a number of vegetarian options, including breakfast tacos with soyrizo. It was delicious- had this crispy cheese bottom and flavorful green salsa! The food was reasonably priced and food had delicious and nicely presented. Will definitely be back.

Lovely place great atmosphere. Food was so so, the hazelnut chocolate milk shakes were small and tasted like cherries. I got the pot roast which was good but for 34 dollars I would have expected a better portion. My kids did enjoy the overly large paper straws, and we did have quick service and friendly service.So that’s all i’m really looking for.

We enjoyed breakfast and dinner while in town. Biscuits and gravy were fire, Banana bread pudding French toast- so delicious. Bacon Avocado Benedict Amazing! I could eat here every day! Avocado toast was okay, wish I would have ordered Benedict .

The vibe is very fancy adult. I wish I didn’t go with who I brought, I wish I dressed up a bit more. I figured the diner was chill casual but it was not. Service took a while zero help finding this no one was helpful or friendly. Food was alright but highly over priced. Overall the thing that saved this place was the atmosphere it is gorgeous to look at, the hotel is also beautiful. But expect to spend a lot and dress amazing to fit in and be comfortable.
