We certainly had a wide variety of food and it was well presented and nicely served. Beautifully cooked.
The atmosphere was excellent.
Definitely recommended.
Food is very good. Service good .
But . .ok it’s a lunch deal . .but to pay 99p for garlic flatbread. .I thought something had been at it in the kitchen . I had to put my glasses on to see it !
Put me off tbh . Can get better deals elsewhere .
We had planned a special family meal, but instead, we were left with an experience that felt completely subpar. While the waitress provided excellent service, the food was unacceptable. The roast dinners were cold and burnt, more resembling a low-effort fast-food meal than a proper restaurant dish. The portion sizes and presentation were equally underwhelming, failing to justify the price or the reputation Beefeater once had.
To make matters worse, the toilets were dirty, reflecting the neglected state of the entire restaurant, which is in desperate need of refurbishment. The atmosphere felt tired, uninspired, and far below the standard expected of an established chain.
For a restaurant meant to bring people together over a good meal, this visit failed in almost every way. If Beefeater wants to remain relevant, it must reflect on its future—improvements to cleanliness, portion sizes , and overall quality are not optional; they are essential. Based on this experience, returning would be difficult to justify.
Note, if you are hungry…. Don’t have one of their premium burgers as it reminded me of a fast food happy meal! See picture (menu picture versus reality!)
We attended as part of an extended group and the server was very good and accommodating. However, The kids menus were disappointing and the food portions for toddlers. The kids pizza was burnt but they only gave us chips to ease this and didn’t take it off the bill. With no other options other than paying 3X price for an adult meal our tweens had to accept the baby sized meal. The burger whilst looking full and appetising on the menu arrived without anything but a bun and burger nothing like the image- this place has a case of misleading products! The fish was ok but standard pub grub at an inflated cost.
The biggest issues came from when the server was giving coke bottles instead of bottomless soft drinks – even though they were in pint glasses- he did take one off due to the mistake. Then my brother proceed to order from the gluten free menu and had a £34 bill at the end of it! Turns out the gf menu has no prices and he thought he was ordering mix and matched products but in fact it was 2 skewer main meals! Each at £16.50 a pop! The server don’t say anything (and maybe it was our bad) but when 1 persons orders 2 mains surely some common sense would prevail here and the server should have given him the menu with prices on! This needs to change as they are selling gf options without showing how much it will cost.
Ultimately I found the experience pitiful and painful. Save your pennies and go to a locally owned non chained restaurant who isn’t inflating prices and slimming its portions in a bid to remain relevant and cling onto its 90’s glory days.
Ordered food and the starters came, i had the flatbread and it was nice and soft and warm! My partner had garlic mushrooms and we also had chicken goujons to share. Both of which were okay but overcooked so the batter was quite hard.
Mains I had a fillet steak with triple cooked chips. Steak was slightly overdone but unfortunately as its done on a chargrill it wasn’t really ‘seared’ but the outside of the steak was just solid black charcoal texture. Triple cooked chips were cold and some of them barely even cooked once let alone three times. Bullet peas and a very lightly toasted tomato.
My partner had the chicken burger but again it was so over cooked the batter was rock solid crumbling to a dust with each bite. Also the skin on fries were stone cold.
Dessert I got the banoffe cheesecake which unfortunately is just a vanilla cheesecake with sliced banana and toffee sauce on the side so it was quite bland overall.
When clearing the table we weren’t asked if everything was okay.
We had to get home so diddnt complain as it had got a little busy at that point so knew we would be waiting for replacement meals e.t.c
It just means unfortunately our first experience will be our last.
It’s been over 10 years since we had last attended and we had a voucher through the post so thought we would give it a try but the beauty is with peterborough there is plenty of other restaurants to try next.
Also worth noting a gentleman that looked like the general manager could do with a larger shirt! It looks as though it shrunk in the wash and the buttons were about to explode. That’s not me having a dig about anyone’s size before anyone says. Im just stating as a uniform it diddnt look professional.
